Hit hat and snare at the same time? Interesting technique. I've seen variations of the Purdy shuffle, and everyone approaches the snare high-hat combo differently. Great demonstration.
@@robertoricci3393 Sure. Billy was a great hero for Simon. But After Jeff , Simon was the only one who can give a better taste for Toto. You can feel Simon's kick snare and tom Sound.
@@CaptainSpyware No, I'm not. The pacorro nuances are not there, such as the ghost notes are too loud and not as tight as Pacorro's version. Too much open hi-hat, its passable for a demonstration but way too messy if you was trying to record it.
@@thedigitalemotion Even Jeff didn't play the groove like on the record (The name's Porcaro btw). The Ghost notes are meant to be heard in a live situation because it adds to the feel, and the Hi Hat is in fact open at the beginning and closed later, like Simon did in the clip. It's a demonstration, nothing to criticize here.
this isn't really what's going on, the pattern is correct, the discrepancy that's noticeable is that Jeff recorded the lick in a studio with muffling on the snare and then had it mixed- Simon is playing without anything on the snare to soften up the hits and is being recorded on a phone, live... To be honest, this should be pretty obvious and not some ground to knock Simon on (because honestly, we think Simon is hack.. that's what we're doing here... hah. ok)
You know Jeff version is easy to play. And you can watch from Micheal Alba explaining. But no one can play this song like Simon. We all love and missed Jeff. But you know Simon was the one who is perfect for Toto. Because of his own improvisation, Tonality, And his trademark open handed.
I love the way he tunes his drums. Simon is an excellent drummer.
Everything about the way he plays is excellent!
Open handed Rosanna shuffle nice. To those saying not 100% Simon did say it goes something like this and it does.
Simon Phillips is an Amazing drummer! To play a difficult groove like Rosanna this well is no small feat. Incredible!
Never had a drum intro give me chills before today...
Enorme!!! J'adore Toto et bien évidemment le jeu de Simon Phillips!!
He is one of the best 5 at the world.
No he is not.
@@ashleyshipp8340 what. He IS
@@Cupra317hp No it is subjective, and he is not. You can look through rose tinted glasses all you want.
@@ashleyshipp8340 ok.
Ok
He is the King of the single stroke roll
This rhythm here is absolutely awesome, this piece should be like the kingdome of all drummers.
Beautiful, Simon is in if my favourites. Is he now leaving the bass drum nester on the head between hits. ? It looks like it from this vid.
Fantastic again from Sir Simon......is it the light or are the kick drums a different colour??? Either way the colour is superb
Hey it is the light 😍

Bello/Magnifico.💗✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️🌡️🏆💪👑
I almost have a heat attack by playing that beat. No joke.
Doing this left-handed is just a whole other ball game for me. I can't do this!
No one can cover Rosanna in Open handed. Simon is a real monster❤
Billy Cobham and Carter Beauford can do that for sure
@@robertoricci3393 Sure. Billy was a great hero for Simon. But After Jeff , Simon was the only one who can give a better taste for Toto. You can feel Simon's kick snare and tom Sound.
Of course you can.
Spud (searight) is also an open Hand Drummer and he grooves like hell ua-cam.com/video/JxxzrxknIfA/v-deo.html
Playing it open handed it's easier to control the dynamics if you don't have to worry about your arms getting in the way of each other
Excellent ^^
Love Simon and he is prolly just jamming but bass drum pattern is missing the Bo Diddley part where bass drum hits with snare.
If you listen to the isolated drum track of the original Jeff doesn’t actually really do it all that often if at all
Simon Phillips doesn't have the same feel as Jeff Porcaro had when playing this groove. I don't think anyone does, that's what made Porcaro great !
On aurait aimé une vidéo complète ☹️
Love that snare !!!!
That was so fluid.
Pour ceux qui n’habitent pas Toulouse ! Hein !
Simon is ridiculously good
Timing is off 😢
Une référence 🙏
thanks for sharing
Not a bad effort. Made it look easy, so I know I can't do that!
awesome
So is he left handed playing a right handed kit? That is how I play...left hand on hi-hat.
Dayumm!
bravo!
Thank Jeff Pocaro for a solid drum riff.
Its Jeffs song,This is just a copy hi hat sounded ruff.
epic
Ooof, not at all Jeff Pacorro I’m afraid! The feel is way off!
You are talking rubbish.

Okay, but at this point, what drummer with at least three years experience can't play Rosanna Rosanna Danna.
Not the way Jeff Porcaro created the rhythm patern. The ghost notes are way too loud. I will always like the original drummer better than Philips.
No one can play just like Jeff. So of course he's going to sound different, he's not Jeff.

Yeah but Toto in general hasn’t sounded as smooth without Jeff and Bobby. It was the smooth that made Toto. 🎉

@@colinburroughs9871We all know Simon loves open and huge sounds ❤
A Jeff Porcaro drum beat obtained from the King of shuffle drum beats, Mr. Bernard Purdie.
It's much different in every way, shape and form. The Purdie shuffle is awesome in it's own way but nothing like Jeff's version.
Na crap ...come back Jeff please
