From an American who has studied in the US, UK and Germany: the attraction of a higher quality education in the West is not just in vocational training (i.e. a given STEM field), but the gaining of a "cosmopolitan" status. "Cosmopolitans" or "transnationals" can easily converse, relate to, and understand other urbanites in California, NYC, London, Singapore, Zurich or Sydney. They are easily employed worldwide. All top 25 American universities, most top 15 or so publics and top liberal arts colleges will get you there...but so will 40 or so international universities.
    So, worth it:
Top 25: the usual, Ivies, Stanford, MIT, CalTech, Johns Hopkins, etc.
Top public: 6 UC campuses, Big Ten schools, Washington, UVA, UNC.
Top Liberal: (Will work in the US, but might need a post-baccalaureate degree from above for international) Harvey Mudd, Amherst, Williams, Pomona, Swarthmore maybe 12 more.
    Pretty much equal to:
UK: Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial, Kings, LSE
    Canada: Toronto, McGill, BC, Waterloo.
If you can't get into these schools, say you go to a UCSC, ASU, Oregon, the education might be nearly as good, but you'll need to work harder to be granted interviews. And the mind-blowing starting salary and bonus might be harder too. So maybe worth it.
Personal advice: at university, socialize! Go to shows, sporting events, dine with people not in your group. College is training you to be in a new class, and educated, global class. It's almost as important as your lectures.

My advice: if you can succeed in your own country then do that. But if you cant compete because of any reason then sacrifice and try some foreign country. You will have to leave/sacrifice your family, friends, network. Regardless where you reside there will always be challenges and opportunities. Pick your poison wisely. There is always opportunities for the strong will/mind.

This is one of the most objective and sensible views on pros n cons of US life vs India. One of the key things that got missed out is lack of social/family support in usa once you have kids. The best option is to earn in USA early in your career, roam the beautiful country as a bachelor or DINK, save lots of money and then go back to India and do what you want without the pressure of being in high pressure/ high earnings job. The horrible traffic in India esp Bangalore will always remain a pain point. As you rightly told, one can’t aspire for a quality of life in India as a good as in USA- is never going to happen. US is way too ahead in terms of infrastructure, roads, very low to zero corruption at lower levels which common citizens face.

Quality of life in India is good once you are earning above 10-12 lakh yearly or even 7 to 8 lakh depending on expenses. USA is behind europe in efficient public infrastructure. USA does not have well developed train infrastructure and metro in most cities like India. Many will drive in USA daily 50 to 100 km going to offices. USA has lonely suburbs without near by grocery store or cafe or small resturants. Just a traffic jam do not determine your quality of life. Things like food you are eating, time spent with family and friends, the confidence level of kids and how much they feel they belong to a given country or place. One problem I see in India is work environment such as working after office hour, micro management by managers. Europe/ USA is better in this but regarding time spent with family/friends, your children feel of belonging to the place and confidence and how your second and third generation grows staying away from drugs, getting lost in lonliness, family atmosphere. USA looks champion for 15 to 20 years of life but in the long run India looks better when you see further life of your next generation who are not confused. Offcourse money is important, without money life is hell everywhere.
In terms of enjoying local market, shops and resturants nearby resedential area India and Europe is similar in terms of loose comparision.

I find that more and more jobs are getting outsourced to India even at the machine learning and AI levels. Remote work allowed companies to figure out all the jobs which can be moved abroad. U know the process of jee. 2 years of no break. I got 65k rank and did not get any good govt college. Joined a top college in Bangalore my home city. The admission for btech was delayed by 6months and then in between came covid 3rd wave which again took away 4-5months . So now my 4 year engineering program was reduced to a 3 year one . Cut to 2023 October where my placement drive started and I did not have single internship, I didn't have any exposure to work in IT. All the companies visiting were only from IT. The electronics related companies like Synopsys, microchip, nxp, nvidia,Samsung semiconductors who are a regular visitors every year. Skipped this year. I am still not placed and I have a respectable cgpa of 8.7 from a pretty strict college who doesn't give away marks easily. The only option is Gate or MS (GRE AND Ielts)and looking at the competition I have to again waste 1 year now either way. But preparing for GRE guarantees a seat but Gate is a tough exam to Crack. M
Mentally I am done and I can't handle these indian exams which never seem to end. Because of the late realisation I am late for MS application window. Everyone around me were already ready with this MS plan and I am that patriotic idiot who never had any idea of going abroad. As a native American I agree that gun violence in US is at an all time high & is definitely not a safe place to live. If you look at other super power countries' legal systems, heinous crimes like murder, rape or assault & battery can get a death penalty if someone is a big enough problem. But in the US there's an ever diminishing importance placed on a human life & convicts walk free in about 4 to 10 years. The justice system simply isn't fair. And I also agree that US work Visa's have too many constraints that make it "almost not worth it". I have lots of Indian friends who work in my agency's IT shop & dealing with US Immigration & Naturalization is more painful than face planting into cacti. I feel bad for them. And then there's the drug problem. Big Pharmacy is given free license to dictate who gets what health care here & control many of the main corporate hospital networks. They want their doctors to push as many prescriptions as is possible without killing their consumers. You simply have to do the research yourself & realize that half the television programming here is attempting to sell you something with hidden side-effects. Or is something you can totally do without provided you exercise some diet, exercise & lifestyle changes. Don't get me wrong. there are worse countries to establish a career in. But the US is not the "land of golden opportunity" it once was. I have yet to visit India, but I plan on changing that soon.

One important thing you missed is the living cost, when you say you get $85000 in US the tax , house rent/ mortgage and grocery , college expense for your kids are way too much moreover every other year travel to India with family is another cost which will eat more into your savings. . However in India though technically the salary is not anywhere near $85000 just going by the conversion rate the expense is way to less and in real experience you save more and meet your needs much more comfortably.

If your plan is to work for a few years in the US and then go elsewhere, US is still a great place. The only problem is it's very hard to settle down in the US now for anybody born in India as they won't get a green card in their lifetime - of course, there are workarounds, but very few (likely 5% or less of the people moving to the US) can afford them. Work for a few years in the US, save some good money and then move elsewhere. You should of course be wary of the good life here luring you in and trapping you in an impossible situation.

You are absolutely right. For those who fail to get into the top 10% of India through the competitive exams and academics, US is heaven. However, for those who have reached the top 10%, the equation can get totally flipped. For an IIM alumnus like me, it is so abundantly luxurious here in elite urban India, that going to live a life in US can be actually downgrading. Because with hefty salaries, you have a lush comfortable apartment, a big family (something you can never have in US as most people there live lonely lives, don't have big families to brag of) and even one can hire maids and cooks. It's really too awesome life to think of migrating to a lonely American life out there where one has to do all household work alongwith a tough job, including cooking and doing tasks like cleaning the lawns.

People are literally living pay cheque to pay cheque and taking up 2 jobs at a time to survive. Sorry i don't want such lifestyle. I'll happily work with 3LPA and grow gradually in India. We don't need to increase the salaries instead the artificially propped up valuations of the fiat dollar against the rupee and all the currencies for that matter, should be brought down to its original value that is $1= Rs.4 like it was in 1970s in the indian context

Now indian students are cash cow for them. Just giving you admission for sake of money, if get good education or job they don't care. So only if you get fully funded program then only come.

But you can work hard to be sure about your skills like coding, using software tools like sql IDE, BI tools. If you will have good skills than you will also confident to do take challenging project in MS which makes your resume outstanding. MS in US requires lots of money and you need to protect yourself from getting trapped in debt. I think develop 25 to 30% skills even before going so that you can you can take challenging dissertation topic in MS and get chance to improve your skills to 75% to 80% so that company can see if they hire you, you are productive from day 1 and they do not need to invest time and money to train you.
