***** He could have seen it at TI
i love your videos
i love them
This trailer inspired me to go as hard as I could in a game of CS:Source.
Went 2-11 on De_Dust.
I'M IMPROVING!
Sir Sebastian
Did you found a thing called life yet? And reality?
@@weirdsailorman4070 Great graphics, pretty good storyline, but the dailies are the worst.
Valve is genius. They are the Apple of the gaming world, marketing wise.
So true.
You mean the old apple, because the current apple is utter shit.
Gumo Vitya
Sad but true
Gumo Vitya So True!!!!
I don't know what I just watched but I want to pay for it :O
To people comparing these people to athletes/sportsmen:
-Gamers with health problems? Please, what about all the stories of sportsmen getting into drugs, things that literally make you go insane, things that are ILLEGAL. Getting obese is one thing, taking drugs is something very difficult to recover from.
-Sports teams are up against other small sports teams; there are only a handful of teams they have to play against to win. There are 3 teams in this competition - they've been up against the entire WORLD of Dota 2 players to get to this point and there's a huge amount of them.
-Money? This is $1 Million.
-Nerdy? Geeky? People, this is 2014. More people own a gaming platform than a football. That's the reality - it's mainstream now. Get used to it. It WILL become a national sport, whether you like it or not. It's only going to get bigger from here-on-out.
Let them ramble on. I personally think, and I'm serious, that gaming will be the biggest thing out there in about 10-20 years. Our generation will be the full grown adults of today. We grew up with this. In 20 years there won't be a mindset of "gaming is the devil" that certain adults have in this day and age.
Dude u are so right man, love your comment, e-sports will become bigger than soccer and other sports, believe it or not people :)
ART Law I agree :)
if its getting bigger doesn't mean its the right way.
the nightmare future is waiting us , but i wonder how long will it last?
I would also point out that most pro gamers are actually pretty fit. Because you cant become the best strategist without a fit and healthy body, the body of a gamer is like the bat of a baseball player, you cant be the best at baseball with a glass bat.
What a freaking masterpiece..
Valve out-did themselves.
free to play the movie trailer has 6 words and us has 2 letters 6/2=3 half-life 3 confirmed
DONDO MADE ME CRY! *BibleThump*
>Movie's about DOTA 2 players
>"This is where it all started!"
QuakeCON would like a word...

Nope en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuakeCon#1996
And yes at the same time. Incredible! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_World_Championships
Quakecon 2013 first prize $10.000
The International 3 first prize $ 1.500.000
QuakeCon sure big
bunnyfreakz
Do you tards not realize that QuakeCON was the first major e-sport competition event? It used to be massive; but there are more leagues that have since followed in its footsteps that are on-going, year round; while QuakeCON is a once a year event.
Pillow Talk it says it all started there - as Dota 2 history, not eSports as general. Get real.
"ten years ago, competitive gaming wasn't even a thing"
quake says hi
Whats a quack.
***** dude, counter-strike 1.6 is what made gaming huge, there were lots of pro gaming going on 15 years ago
4riel There's a difference between "wasn't as big" and "didn't exist."
falubii There's a difference between "existing" and "being a thing". Competitive gaming wasn't a thing ten years ago, as it was outside of the mainstream scope. That doesn't mean that it didn't exist ten years ago.
Amit Patel 1.6 came out in like 2002/03 lol
Dendi : Screw the piano, "keyboard" pwns. (No pun intended)
To all the people saying these guys have no life, and/or are stupid to make sacrifices to play a game. who really is the stupid guy here? the guy doing something he loves and getting money to do so, or the guy sitting behind his pc complaining on youtube about people he doesn't even known.
This is not a documentary stating how gaming is great or be on par as other other pro sports. comparing pro gaming to sports is like comparing a cruise liner to a jumbo size jet, it will get you to places, but you are comparing two different things. This is about life as a pro gamer, the sacrifices people had to make in order to try to become the best in the world and hopefully, helps propel us into the next generation of competitive gaming. as basketball and football (soccer) first started, people wondered who would watch this? This documentary will maybe explain it, maybe just a little what the people in the gaming community are trying to one day hope to achieve.
I completely agree with what you have to say. This documentary's purpose was to fully capture the sacrifices of these gamers, the growth of competitive gaming, and just how complex and intricate gaming is.
Free to play, Free to watch.. i like it.
Valve, please support competitive TF2 Q_Q As for now anyone who's trying to be the best at TF2 is getting a pretty raw deal no matter what.
You will have great competition against ME then!
I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!
I am waiting the day when Riot will copy this kind of documentary :)
then they will charge you access per part of their documentary, or you can watch 500 hours of it to unlock the rest
albert arnold hahahahaha
albert arnold That makes no sense
Edgar Patlan That make perfect sense from Riot's perspective...
Edgar Patlan that is what I have been telling LoL players!
For people thinking this is the only documentary about competetive gaming.
You are wrong, this is just Valve their take on it.
Grubby did it with Beyond The Game Documentary

this comment needs to be on the top!
now grubby is playing DOTA 2

I wonder if leagueoffaggots can do such a film like this? this is the reason why i love dota2
why can't you accept that there is more than one moba and that one is not superior to the other
watch?v=6DDBpOkaAH4 well sorry for u hater we can do that and better! i like both games but i really hate ppl like you hating for no reason at all
theonlydkdreng
But, Dota is better in every aspect. So, you should accept. Look for help.
theonlydkdreng Sadly, one is superior to the other. That's one thing people have to understand. I remember the good old BF vs COD. "They can't be compared, they are equally as good in their own ways" bla bla bla... I've played League way more than Dota and I can say that Dota is about a million times better than League and that's not based on my opinion.
theonlydkdreng We don't call our game is M O B A!
This doc is awesome so far. Getting to know players from each team. You want them to win so bad. Then you see them go against each other. AHHH!!! WHYY!!
"10 years ago there was no competitive gaming."
Starcraft and Unreal Tournament would like a word with you.
Except he said "10 years ago, competitive gaming wasn't even a thing." Which has a completely different meaning from what you think he said, moron.
Vala Osmani yea competitive gaming now can giff u living $$$$$
Try watching that part again tard...
then AOE 3 can also be called "a thing" in esport 10 years ago right? the price money was somewhat the same and every1 can join.... yeah, do you even understand the word "competitive" in esport?
10 years ago competetive gaming wasnt a thing?
are you kidding me ???
10 years ago was 2004
LOL
My thoughs exactly.
1998 - Starcraft
1999 - Counter-Strike
O yeah, competetive gaming didn't existed ten years ago, like at all...
Original DotA surfaced circa 2003. Team Fortress Classic in the before times of 1999. And the best is this quote from Wiki:
"Multiplayer Quake was one of the first games singled out as a form of electronic sport.A notable participant was Dennis Fong who won John Carmack's Ferrari 328 at the Microsoft-sponsored Red Annihilation tournament in 1997."
So, yeah, 1997 is a time which will forever remain shrouded in mystery.
Confirms this is just Meet the Dota 2.
EgonCom They meant it wasn't as popular as it is now

As a older player of games I never thought that Games would become so rich and immersive. Who would ever had thought that gaming would become a team sport. Rock on man. It is refreshing to see gamers from around the world working hard not just to play but to win and be great. Refreshing and as a dota player I need to work harder to increase my skills. May I have a htc vibe
This is very inspiring it’s amazing how much effort they put into making those things wow good job guys.
Dendi is jealous of my skills.
I cri evry tim ;_;
That feeling as a gamer. Glad I started playing Dota 9 years ago and watched/observed/played it as it progressed over the years. I stopped playing few years back but I still play once in a while. Then Dota 2 came out and it made me even more happier and started playing a lot again. I never regret playing dota and will continue playing because I enjoy it. It kinda sad though because people misunderstand us most of the time, oh wait, I mean all the time. Will definitely watch this. Nice one Valve.
especially league of legends players. Dota 1 was better than league of legends but they still think that lol is better than dota 2? WTF!
This was such an inspirational movie. Me and so many of my friends love to game. Its very unique to here about these stories of these gamers who go through these expierences while trying to be the best of the best. Whether it be getting kicked out of the house or just trying to find job to support yourself so you can continue with your dream of gaming. I love this movie so much it means so much to me!!! NOW CAN I PLEASE HAVE A VIVE VR HEADSET SO I CAN GAME ON LIKE THESE AWESOME GAMERS IN THE MOVIE!!!!
never thought i'd live to see this released
"10 years ago competitive gaming wasn't even a thing"
Yeah sure, Broodwar was at it's height in Korea and Quake was still big. 10 years ago was 2004 people.
Do you really think you could make a living out of competitive gaming exclusively back then? Because that's what the scene means. Esports has really developed since the early 2000s and prizepools and the amount of actual tournaments increased.
Makorus is right. If you look at any of the big Brood War names they all had to have other jobs and couldn't be a career gamer, not to mention the Western scene wasn't even beginning to see any people.
the film created 3 years ago, so it's all goes back to 2000/2001
Makorus
You could if you were a Korean.
TomValedro
Yes. But that just proves that it "wasnt even a thing", when it was only "viable" in Korea.
i so like the type of work you guys put into the HTC VIVE
Is this trailer about to make me pay money to watch a documentary about people playing games... Holy shit this was well made...
The movie is free to download on steam
well, it will come with a bundle with a sven, doom and pudge sets.
21RedShot no its free .. you can buy bundle and suppor players if you want
FINALLY!!!
And now cmon riot, try to copy this!
what hyhy said is so true, the chance to become best in the world at something, its something vry rare
i wanna watch them extra cinematics; saw balanar crushing pugna; more eye candy pls; documentary looks awesome; can't wait to see it
Thank God it doesn't follow Call of Duty players. If that were the case, "Free to Play" wouldn't work as a title.

"one way to forget about pain is to do something that you will be in completely." wow i can actually relate a lot to these words from dendi

Loved the scene where one of my favourite hero the big balls Mr.NIGHT STALKER smashed pugna onto the ground!
I love the way you add Doat 2 and 3 was in i love it
I just watched an Extra Credits about competitive gaming as a sport and I am very excited.
I want to show this my mum.
Guys .....
" Wasnt a thing" completely different with " Not exist "
Its like described Internet ten years ago wasnt a thing but not mean its not exist
is completely different to*
Non existent*
it is like describing internet ten years ago as if*
it wasnt a thing*
but it doesn't mean it didn't exist*
EVERY SINGLE PART OF YOUR SENTENCE IS WRONG
klaasch86 Quit correcting people; it's the fucking internet. You've corrected so many people in this single comments section alone. Nobody gives a flying fuck, and correcting people for simple grammatical errors is annoying as hell.
Trialtrex21 he forgot to disable auto-correction.
Hehehehe, yes we should just let the internet make people devolve their spelling and grammar. Which will be great for future generations. At this rate were going to have a generation of kids that will do 80 to 90 % of all their writing on the internet. And you propose I stop correcting people. In 20 years time, people of my age will be illiterate dumb fucks that have no idea about spelling or grammar. Is that really what you think is the right thing for future generations ?
Just because it's on the internet does not mean we should stop paying attention to proper spelling and grammar. It's people like you that will be the downfall in education for the kids of tomorrow.
So, if I feel I need to correct someone their spelling. I will do so as I see fit.
I don't need your approval or condecending comments.
klaasch86 You correcting them will do nothing.
10 years ago SC2 brood war was competitive, in fact it was broadcast on live tv regularly in korea
This is one of the most inspirational videos I've watch. Being a gamer seeing the effort they put in is truly crazy. They are all very good and I dont really see myself going that far however I try to put in an effort. Hearing their individual stories is very nice. With new technology like the vive I feel many people can benefit by gaming as this movie portrays.
This is the type of thing that makes me proud to be a casual gamer.
"This is the most important moment of life"
DOTA 2 ?? omg dude ...
$1 million dollar prize money dude.
Kao Javier I undertsand what you want to say but I don't see the point to compare someone who sits down a do the click job and develop health problems to an athlete who workout and practice for years to get where they are (steroids not incl..) . It's not the same level for shit. But yeah . 1M$ is pretty huge.
DarkKrixx You shouldn't generalize all gamers as people who are obese, if you look at people such as optic gaming they're pretty fit gamers.
Kao Javier Not to mention the top pro gamers probably have more hours of practice in their game than most athletes do in their sports. (8+ hours a day gaming is common for them, 8+ hours a day of practicing most sports is practically impossible)
DarkKrixx When you hear "a group of grown men trying to throw a rubber ball in a basket," it doesn't sound like much either. ANYTHING can be big with money and an audience.
Looking forward to the movie c:
This piece of art is absolutely amazing and I love the story and how they do not give up.
Finally a big documentary about the dota 2 e-sports scene.
A documentary about gamers
DONDI!
ummm 10 years ago there were gaming tournaments.
***** the guy in the vid is playing dota 2 while somebodys saying this. because the beta strated in late 2011 we can estimate the time where the movie takes part in. ^^ 2011-10=2001, counter strike did already exist at this time and i think everybody knows that it takes/took a big part in the competitive scene. ;D
inserting my opinion > dota 2 and lol both suck ass
The competitive scene is not what it used to be - and it was small. That's what he meant.
gerbilhair So you hate MOBAs, just say that :P
mindless shooters for life
i enjoyed this video i have never really heard of dota until now and this video makes me want to play it this video was very inspirational and amazing
Yes these professional players in DOTA 2 are sacrificing their education to compete. This game means alot to them.
"Ten years ago, competitive gaming wasn't even a thing."
wat?? ô.Ô
it wasnt. ppl didnt get much for it. ti was more of a hobby. even in dota 1...noone got anything much
Kokoru Shinobu As a former sponsored QuakeTF player i disagree..
As in most people were unaware of its existence and its prize pools, 3rd party support and viewership was much much much smaller.
Neturael Boye Again you are interpreting what was said in a different way. Of course competitive gaming was a thing by then but that doesn't change the fact that it was still unbeknownst to most gamers unlike today.
I CANT WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE, IS IT GOING TO BE FREE?
yes
It'll be free to play...
The premiere is not free. I'm not sure if it will be after that.
that shot from piano to keyboard was fantastic!
F****ng love the piano - keyboard sequence.
se ve muy cool esta movie, espero que les vaya bien
i have a dream that one day tf2 could be this big
Nothing against TF2, but if Valve doesn't take a game seriously, it will never be embraced as a competitive game.
There's already a doc about a TF2 tournament.
yeah i saw it but it was no where near this big
Blunana Whats the Documentary's name? Also, TF2 had it's day.

TF2 is still one of the most popular games on Steam. It's still having its day.
This movie really inspired me. It is so motivational to see all of these players training hard for the competition. This movie makes me want to train harder for the things that I am truly passionate about. Thanks.
It's nice to see a esports film it's interesting cause ots actually harder than pro athletic sports in some ways, I wish they did it more for mobile esports that's more my style I do pro brawl stars and codm

the video makes me feel so good about my self because i do this almost every day and this just shows me that anything is possible
Good.
Unglaublich!
This video is inspiring to play alot more games to try them all out and be better in gaming. These guys play Dota 2 and i love to see them becoming better and improving their skills i play Dota 2 too and it inspires me how they are doing it im very happy that Dota 2 is free so i can play it without paying alot of money for it. (hope u guys think about it to choose me for the absolutely amazing tech the HTC Vive) peace out.
Emocionante simplesmente espetacular!
If only this was TF2 or something else
TF2 is dead, the items aren't.. I would love to see that in CS:GO :3
or CS:Go yeah
ExacoMvm meh.. 60k+ players online everyday. It's still pretty alive.
I am a massive gamer, but imo esports are incredibly stupid and these gamers should not be compared to athletes.
Why not, playing games takes skill, and those who are best at it have a great deal more skill than the average player, put in a ton of practice, leverage every advantage.
Perhaps it's more mental than physical but it still is. So there should be no chess tournaments or spelling bees or any kind of competition unless it involves athletics? Pfft to that.
I'm not into it and find it a bit silly but there's no doubt that there's plenty of competition and an audience for it.
I wouldn't really say it's comparing them to athletes, LOL hell no.
But games like DotA requires a lot more brain power than say the Olympics. If anything it's another form of competitive chess.
But that is precisely why this documentary was made, it shows these guys as pioneers so to speak.
what about chess?
i respect ur opinion, but I hope you will think again if you play Dota.
***** derp? exactly... it's his opinion, that's what comments are? That's like saying "that post is your reply ffs!". And without a doubt it requires more brains than any sport, but whats the last widely popular event about brain push ups that you saw on HBO?
but what i really love is the online kingdom part in the movie
I almost cried just watching 2 minutes of this. Good God. It's HAPPENING!
but valve , what about csgo ? No love for competitive csgo ? :"(
CS:GO is not Free-To-Play
Ralph Anjo Suplente Well they should fix that.
***** Lol no, there will be too many Brazilians and haxors if it were free.
Ralph has a point.
***** Then tackle the cheater problem and then make it f2p.
"10 years ago pro gaming wasn't a thing" WHAT ?! ... WHAT ?!
Okay, give me an example of an e-sport in 2000 where the price money was 1 million dollars.
0:19 Black rock shooter!!! :D
wow yes i realized it too! xD
First ever Valve movie? About the E-sports scene? That doesn't suck? AND WITH SFM?! YES PLEASE.
As much as I support Valve, this kind of feels like just a big advertisement for Dota 2...
They just use Dota 2 as an example of their documentary about gaming in general. You can't put a LoL based video in a Valve documentary you know... and yes, it is a advertisement for Dota 2 aswell, what's the problem in that?
The game is Dota 2, but the documentary pretty much reflect E-Sport in general. Thus, you can say that it has good transparency to any games applicable.
wDzZxGaming
There is no problem IN that.
However there may be a probem WITH that.
Their is absolutely no problem in advertising Dota2. ITS FREE!
I did catch a glimpse of CS as well, so I would assume all the bigger esport titles of Valve will be in it, but DotA is the biggest, so obviously it is in the center

To all the younger gamers saying competitive gaming has expanded and that is what they mean by competitive gaming not exiting 10 years ago no actually the opposite is happening, competitive gaming is getting smaller. When Fighting games started having trouble getting 3d right and sales of them started doing bad with that failure they took away a very large chunk of fighting game tourneys with them. When call of duty blew up it took out the fps gaming mlg scene with it. When madden got boring finally partly do to mainstream gamers moving to C.O.D from it there went the sports gaming tourneys. Free to play games and the only 2 really dominating competitive gaming being M.O.B.A games and W.O.T. makeup a really small percent of gaming. Madden Tournaments and Halo M.L.G. got huge mainstream attention even T.V. attention. I can go on the street and ask some one what M.L.G is and get a answer I can not do the same for Esports
I would argue that its only expanding, the problem with competitive fighting games is the companys behind these platforms (console manufacturers) never supported esports such as a long term effort whereas you have companys like intel, amd, nvidia, and a few others that continue to push and support the various scenes within pc gaming.I would also say that there is a huge difference between the communities...super smash tournaments on n64 is going to have a very small following compared to certain moba communities like dota2,starcraft or lol because both moba and rts games are being actively supported, both valve and riot are actively generating content and working on their product and because of those reasons..both are just as relevant as they were a few years ago.
Unless you in Asia, like china, malaysia, singapore , etc etc. DOTA 2 / MOBA genre game quite popular here, and the Esport quite high attention to the majority teens and adults.
and for your information, I don't even know what is MLG.

advertising indeed so what? everyone will enjoy it
lol? its like you wouldnt want to advertise your own product? wtf is that comment :D
There actually needs to be a mention of the original Counter-Strike and Quake, these games were the foundation of competitive gaming and can not be forgotten.
I also love the team work they do to make the game also I am very thankful to both the crew vive have been vive has been a very good gaming company I have studied the company for a bit now and ive heard about the HTC vive and I saw all of the reviews they have on there website also the ones from friends of mine who said it was nice to have one.
I get that im asking a lot but I want to test it to see how far gaming has come since 2010.
