You just got a reason to trade in the model S plaid and make content on the new model Y
It’s crap 💩 the range is extra 20 miles lol 😂 there are cars going 400 miles 500 miles etc. Chevy has a cheap 35k car that goes 300-320 miles this is going 330-350 ish it’s a joke should be 400 long range and 330 short range could do a cheap model 240miles with cloth seats no glass roof 32k would be nice but tesla is not a car company lol 😂 that’s what Elon said it’s a tech company lol 😂 just build cars 🚗
@@williampisano7573 You sound like someone who has never even been in any of these EVs. The Model Y was already the best per dollar vehicle ever made, and this one improves on the simplistic brilliance. Anyone paying attention knew this was going to be a Highland like refresh.
Soon ... 😅 Dave buying new model y

"we sold our Porsche Macan EV for the new Model Y"
Here in Australia the Model 3 refresh has no stalks, so no regulation against not having them. On the AU Tesla site the new Y shows the stalk.
new Model 3 everywhere has no stalk, in China or Us or anywhere else.
I think Tesla took the feedback and realized to appeal to more people, turn signal stalks are more favored. Especially for people interested in Model Y vs 3
was about to say the same
@@LuckyAeonthe people want faster horses. I like buttons over stalks, hope m3 keeps the buttons.
Sorry Dave I had to get in before you and order mine first cheers From Aus
🤣
Thanks!
Just can't wait to experience a Test Drive in the new Juniper MY here in the US!
Kinda cool being in Freemont CA on business watching this update. Nice job, as usual guys!
I personally love the new design. Got to differentiate the Model 3 design from the Model Y
Yeah, differentiating them is better for Tesla I think.
Lightbar at the front looks terrible
Well done, really great listen.
Definitely getting one!!
Hmm, I tried to slow down the video as much as possible but did not see the “close” button on the frunk
Correct, if it had a powered frunk, it would have been highlighted as a feature.
The aftermarket will have ready to go by the time Juniper is released in NA.
You guys are awesome!
Glad you enjoyed!
The light bar in the back remind me of the Lincoln MKX. I always considered that a Lincoln design element.
Sorry Jordan, but a 'Closed Frunk' didn't show up. It moved the 'Open Frunk' button location with the animation, but if you pause on it, you can clearly see it says 'Open Frunk' in the new location
Not only a new camera on the front but the finally moved the backup camera higher up on the back to a region that should see a lot less road debris! yes!!! Along with the other improvements, quieter ride better efficiency, totally great!
Interesting how the test photos leaked this morning and Tesla decided to fully introduce it hours later.
Love the update - it finally gives the Y a design language of its own versus the Model 3.
Yes! I've seen very many other commenters on other videos on how they dislike the light bar and wanted it to look like the new Model 3. I don't agree. I like the bar, and the fact that it doesn't look like Model 3.
32:41 Max speed reduction is due to the new tires they put on the new generation vehicles. Softer tire/ride/suspension comes at a cost but one worth paying.
Yeah was about to comment this. Almost certainly that they changed tire configuration. Top speed is limited by the tires.
Amazing Job Sir. Salute 🫡
Your navigating of the subject may is 🔥
The new model Y better come here with that stalk! And I hope the Performance version has the same motor and battery as the new M3P. That would translate to about an 11.4-11.5 quarter mile time . Would be a huge improvement over the last model YP. But the stalk, please bring it here ! Great podcast guys!
If not, can get stalks from s3xy buttons.
I'll never understand buying a performance version of the Y. Why give up range for extra speed in an already very quick (available acceleration boost) SUV. If you want a really fast chuckable car, you're buying the wrong model. The 3 will always be much better at scratching that particular itch.
Cause fast SUVs are appealing . All the room you need for gear plus fast . I.E. Audi sq5, Porsche Cayenne , bmw X3M, x5m, etc etc. there is a big market for fast SUVs. The new Lucid Gravity has 820 hp. The Rician r1s, Tri motor is over 800 hp. There is a reason why.
that glacier blue color is pretty sweet, however I think the front looks like almost every new kia and hyundai and the back looks like a Prius.
Agreed. The front reminds me of the Hyundai Kona or the Xpeng G6, will be interesting to see how this design resonates with buyers, especially in China - Isaiah
Lol 😂 looks Chinese the head lights ??? Sorry 😞 it’s racist to say but true
Back looks like the old Lincoln MKX.
Love it ... getting one ASAP
32:00 Model 3 Highland also has a reduced max speed. Jordan’s Model 3 has a max speed of 201 km/h (125 mph)
Apparently some of the new OEM tires options have lower speed ratings
Correct, they are low rolling-resistance tires and the major reason why so ever so slightly range improvement. Same with the Model 3. What a joke..
Who cares. Who drives 125mph? I’d rather have efficiency.
Top speed is likely a new OEM tire limitation.
I hope you're wrong about the stalk possibly being omitted for US versions.
They undersold the model 3 too. I bet it will have a much bigger bump in range than advertised. Dave getting Kathy the Porsche has prevented him from being able to “musical chair” her vehicles 😆. Good luck Dave
Was hoping iluminared door handles or some sort of led would make it to this edition. Hard to see those suckers at night. Also some sort of sunroof shade or as someone mentioned the electronic darkening glass. Several competitors have this already 😢
Wanted vehicle to home capabilities like the CT has! I would trade for sure…
The new Juniper model Y is not only China web site but Australia, New Zealand and likely other south East Asian countries.
PLEASE be aware that referral codes are NOT applicable to the "Launch Edition" of the new model Y. I know this as Ive just ordered one off the Australian website and I wasnt able to use the referral code provided by my brother. I called Tesla and they confirmed thast the referral codes dont apply to the launch edition
😲
Did you compare prices before after?
I like the front light bar. I’m not crazy about the rear, it looks plastic and cheap.
Even on Chinese configurator you can see that the buttons on the steering wheel are not for turn signals. I think it looks like they will go with one stalk in all regions. And as mentioned here couple of times - we don't see that 'Close' for frunk. So there is no evidence that frunk automatically open (go up on its own) or close.
22:14 But the indicators on the steering wheel are now on opposite sides
Wish Tesla would have increased the voltage and included steer by wire. They need to keep pushing to the next level. This is a facelift.
Half my family is Chinese, and while it is true Chinese consumers aspire to own luxurious products, Chinese consumers are also accustomed to having completely new models from Chinese OEMs in a much shorter development timeline. Take BYD for example where they can introduce a new car to the market, and then 2 years later they can completely revamp the car, changing everything about the car.
Tesla did update the Model Y and they will see an uptick in sales as this is the new and shinny product. The problem Tesla will run into is a simple question, is it enough? I personally don't think this was a big enough update to draw consumers to the brand. As most people on the podcast said, it looks like the old model, and when you're trying to convince people you're selling a new model that looks too similar to the old model, some people will buy it, but competition does exist, especially in China, and the competitors have products with more exciting designs.
If Tesla had the heritage of a brand like Porsche, this would be a different story. Porsche can do a small modification to the 911, and sell it as an updated model. The biggest distinction between Porsche and Tesla is Porsche is actually luxury, whereas Tesla is trying to appeal to the masses and when you appeal to the masses and you update a product, the update needs to be an update. This update to the Model Y isn't really much of an update.
I disagree on drawing new customers. I have yet to get an EV and never cared for Tesla's frumpy looks and stale interiors. However, this actually looks good, and I would definitely consider getting one. I still don't care for the interior, but I can redo the seats to get what I want and other things to dress up the inside.
@@jeffs6090 let me ask you a serious question. Would you rather buy this or a Rivian R2?
@@jeffs6090 or if you're in China, would you rather buy this or a Xiaomi YU7?
What I'm trying to get at is that competition is ramping up, and when you're selling a product to the masses and you update said product, the update has to be convincing. I don't know if Tesla did enough, given that competitors, particularly in China, are coming out with products with better designs for a better price.
Now Tesla has a more premium-esq brand imagine in China, but the way to kill a premium brand imagine is to make something mass market, and Tesla is a mass market product.
@HeyErnie007 R2 everyday! But that's 2 years out....if we're lucky!
@@jeffs6090 so we're in 2025, the R2 is expected to come out in 2026. While I completely understand the timeline of the 2 may not be 2026, if you knew it were guaranteed to come out in 2026, would you still buy the updated Tesla? If the answer is no, you've answered my point about the refresh possibly not being enough.
Looks a lot like the Xpeng G6 from the front
Headrest are used as whiplash protection more than anything.
I wonder if the performance model will get the rumored 95kwh battery? Disappointing that it doesn’t get a meaningful bump. I love this car, but I’m never buying another EV without a range figure starting with a 4
Looks like Tesla made a lot of great changes to the looks, refinements for NVH and quality of materials on the interior. Unfortunately I think Tesla missed the mark with not bringing underlying tech from the Cybertruck to the Model Y. Disappointed that there is no new 95kwh 800v battery pack with 500kw charging and the still the same 250kw charging which based on their 15 min charging claim on the HK site looks to be the same charge curve as the previous gen cars. As an owner a 24 M3P and a 21 MY LR, I love both them, they are great cars, but I was hoping Tesla would bring faster charging and 400+ mile range that would keep the competition back on their heals. Don’t get me wrong the new MY is still a very compelling package and probably still the best option for the price. I’ll probably end up with a new one to replace my 21.
Hoping it comes with hardware 5. But wife and I are going to trade in our QX60 for this. Looks sexy.
AI5 will probably be another year or 2.
@@deej628I think Tesla/Elon confirmed it for end of 2025
@ never go off Elon time.
I love the front & rear light bars. Dave, you need a new model Y.
They should make the wheel covers optional. I have two sets of those things in my attic just taking up space and when I took them off it left clip marks on my alloy wheels. If they are going to make me pay for them at least put them in the back when I get the car so the wheels don't get scratched up. The best part is the part I don't have to buy.
The NEW model Y Jennifer upgrade was also released today 10th January, here in New Zealand, available for purchase at end of the first quarter.
Jennifer?????
The speed boost is for the Launch series only.
This thing is great looking. I think that when we're done leasing our current Tesla, if we don't buy it, we'll probably pick up a Y. I'd love the extra room, as long as it can fit in our garage. The X barely did when we had it as a loaner for a weekend, so I'm not sure.
Disappointing theres no PowerShare and/or outlets. Also hoped for a fridge, or at least an outlet for a powered cooler in the frunk.
Needs a powered frunk, electronic dimming glass roof like the new Rivian's, steer by wire, and oh $h!t handles for passengers.
They actually dropped the EPA range for the new Model 3 AWD LR from 353 miles to 346 miles, but 70 mph range tests indicated a range jump from 305 miles to 364 miles. I wonder if that will be true for the new Model Y as well.
Why has the car got a front camera with a washer yet there is no mention that they have fitted a rear camera washer jet which is vital for backing up in countries that get wet/ snowy roads. Both my Mini Countryman and my Land Rover Defender have front and rear cams and I never find the front one needs a washer but I’m forever washing the rear camera as on both cars it gets filthy very quickly on damp roads. My Mini has a low level self driving capability and the roads have to be really wet or foggy for that to warn of restricted forwards “sight”.
Also pertinent this winter is lots of complaints of door handles being frozen into place on Teslas across UK and Europe meaning no access to the car, nothing to counter that is mentioned - and China gets equally or colder winters than us!
@outofspecpodcast it seems like the Apple Podcast upload only included the first 9 mins or so of content.
Sound system, how many subwoofers
Is it cheaper in china than the out going model Y?
Would have liked to see powershare and battery improvements, but... For the non-EV nerds these additions will be welcomed and pretty much guarantee the new Y will sell well.
Even in slow motion I see no close option in the Frunk animation.
I hope that the outer marker lights are also active on the rear lights when the lights are switched on - because this "contourless" light is similar to that used by Porsche (a single, bright, uniformly wide, homogenous line), which makes it difficult to position the light in depth in foggy weather, as there are absolutely no focal points for the eye. Here on the Model Y, however, at least the body itself seems to be illuminated somewhat and is also much thicker, which is not the case with Porsche.
Will be interesting to see if real life range increases like it did on the 3. Otherwise, refresh is nice but feels very incremental, as expected
I think the Highland had limited speed due to the new tires, maybe same with juniper.
Legacy voltage charging and no steer by wire. SAD.
Would like to eventually see New Model Y AI5 chips (when they come out) and sensor configuration compared to current AI4 setup.
Where is Francie ?
FYI the model 3 highland is stockless here in Australia. It has nothing to do with mandating
The subjective appeal of exterior design will generate noise but Tesla design language is always received controversially. It's mostly the same practical Y, and the refresh is more about the comfort changes, the improved ride/noise, improved seating and that price point. Charging is the biggest miss in this refresh, especially for Tesla's most popular car in the most competitive segment. Incremental efficiency is welcome, and that translates to fewer/shorter charging stops. But not future proofing charging is a miss as more capable Supercharger stations are built and as competitors get access to Superchargers. Seems like V2L would have been a nice lifestyle addition too. Still feels like the competition is closing in.
800km range, add $2000 to the price = sell 1M additional cars per year. A step change IS needed for increased market penetration.
At best I expect this to maintain sales like m3 highland did.
A pretty weak update overall.
Stalks are not mandated in Australia. M3 here doesn't have stalks. I'd say all markets will get indicator stalk. Will it finally get a proper birdseye view now that front bumper camera has been added?
Why don’t they have the model type on the body skin? Also, China made ? Subject to the tariffs?
did i miss it or they didn't talk about the stalks?
They (Tesla) missed adding buttons instead of controlling everything form the display.
Bumped about the range so disopointed
We need a new design for the Model X. The back should be more like the new Lucid Gravity for more passenger and cargo room.
2nd best selling in 2024 behind the Toyota Corolla.
I like the rear light bar, but don't like the overall look of the rear end
It's time for Dave to dump the Porsche and get the new Model Y, LOL.
there is no tow package.. i really hope its just temporary.
We need 400 miles plus I am tired of making so many stops especially with the car doing most of the driving
Yeah its sad that auto makers are not addressing the glaring weaknesses in EVs.
The stalks should be worldwide as the current Highland Model 3 in Australia don't have stalks there. Nothing to do with laws.
Powered frunk, signal stalk. If the screen rotates like S/X this ticks all my wishes for the facelift.
Vehicle to home would be nice.
i dont think its a powered frunk. the "close frunk" is more of a info that you have to close it before you drive.
Yes...that is what it looks like to me. The button above the frunk still says "Open" after it opens on the visualization. That Close button is over in place of the Drive/Reverse swipe making sure you remember to close the Frunk before driving off.
Well that’s a relief! I just cashed in my Mach E for a 2024 MYP three weeks ago gambling that whatever improvements they made to the Juniper would be largely cosmetic and not worth missing out on the discounts and 0% interest available on the ‘24. Nice to see I made the right call!
Yet to be seen if its all just cosmetic but 0% and discounts definitely not to be sniffed at - enjoy the car - it is fantastic.
The Mustang Mach E looks a lot better. I haven't driven one but went with a friend looking for Lightning and browsing the Ford lots, the MachE looks impressive. Its a much nicer design than the Model Y which is frankly boring.
@@dmmcmah1 The Mach E was nice enough all things considered. Stylish, well screwed together, gets the basics (phone key, cabin pre-conditioning, etc.) right, decently efficient but at the end of the day the MYP does both the big and little things so much better. The charging integration alone, plus access to the V2 and V2/V3 mixed sites, has been worth making the switch but what has surprised me is just how many of the little things (driver profiles, app integration, infotainment, camp mode/ dog mode, menu navigation, etc.) the Tesla does better that make it so much easier to live with day to day. Also, the current version of FSD is just mind blowing. I’ve had the car drive me over 700 miles on a mix of interstate, country lanes, and inner city roads since I bought it with zero issues.
@@djcali001 Everything you say is true but the market is rapidly changing. Tesla will never be dominant like they once were.
@@dmmcmah1 True enough, if for no other reason than Tesla no longer has the market to themselves and just having alternatives forecloses that possibility. I think Tesla is always going to be the top choice for tech focused EV buyers since no one seems to be close to them in that department. But how much of the market they ultimately retain will likely have a lot to do with how the public charging infrastructure ultimately progresses. If the Trump administration is able to claw back the bulk of the NEVI funding and with it the requirements for high up-time and data sharing then I think that Tesla will continue to have a significant advantage in ease of use due to the sophistication of their route planning and charging integration. I just don’t think most people want to sit down with ABRP, plan a route, cross reference it with Plugshare to make sure the chargers you’re being routed to will be working when you get there, and then make sure they have the right app for that charger. I think the NEVI requirements for data sharing, high up time, and contactless payment terminals for every charger were far more important for EV adoption than the actual money being provided. Just having access to the Tesla chargers isn’t enough, until the competition can replicate the seamless route planning and charging experience you get with a Tesla it’s going to remain enough of a competitive advantage for them to maintain significant market share over everyone else.
Now we have to wait several months before it comes for sale in America. Then several months before they actually start to deliver. Then several months more before the performance version. Ughh. Probably fall or summer time
I think we'll see it in the US a lot sooner than you think, definitely faster than how long it took to bring the Model 3 here. This new Model Y being revealed will have an affect on global sales and the Model Y is their bottom line, they won't take long to introduce it. - Isaiah
It's kinda sad that China gets everything first now, even from an American car company.
@@OutofSpecPodcast Especially after Tesla's sales declines in 2024 in the US. They need to refresh their lineup.
@@dmmcmah1 *minor decline. Tesla is still worth all of the western worlds major auto manufacturers COMBINED.
Australia page shows an indicator stalk.
i hope the cost is less i owe my dad a model y after totaling his
when will Francie come back ?
Rivian had light bars and powered frunk 3 years ago
Really don't like new updated design, that could do much better, and really hope that stocks are back👏👏😅
Mostly like. No matter...👍👍
No steer by wire.
I hope the windshield wipers are heated!!
Heated wiper park is already available in new Ys
I think Jordan is misinterpreting the "close frunk" text. I believe that's just a notification that the frunk needs to be closed to enable driving. I'd put good money that there is NOT a powered closing frunk which is super dumb.
Where is the performance model ???
No black exterior paint option??? Every car manufacturer has black exterior for nearly every model. This question should have been covered in this video.
Maybe in the US there will be different color options.
NO performance bolstered seats on the Model Y performance PLEASE! (Or Optional)
I find the standard seats as much more comfortable.
Like the Model X Plaid it is really not optimized for the track, prefer comfort as a tall individual.
Unfortunately that is a deal breaker and would push me to the all wheel drive long range, probably with Boost.
Definitely buying the new Model Y this year.
It’s interesting because if you look at a lot of the photos, at least on the Australian website, they all look like they are shot in the US. The weather infographic on the page is a radar readout over Texas.
Previous blue was better in my opinion, but its just opinion.
"head rests" are not head rests, they are head restraints. Their purpose is to minimize neck injuries in the event of a crash by limiting the backward movement of the head. If you feel the need to rest your head while driving, you probably need to take a break.
All other factories use the LG smaller (79kwh) capacity batteries, so here in North America the range would be higher as the Panasonic batteries are north of 82KWH gross so we should see 8% or better range.
ok hear me out a 4 seat model 3
Most people care about range... so Dave is totally out of touch with what people want. Range anxiety is a big deal. We care about range, and how quickly we can charge from 0-80%.
