  • This is a compilation of Techung's interview about his life as a Tibetan Traditional Musician and cultural bearer in exile and an excerpt of his live performance of Tibetan traditional songs. The video showcases Techung's previous work preserving and promoting two traditional music genres from Tibet known as Nangma and Toeshey and displays the range of Techung's work as a traditional Tibetan singer and multi instrumentalist.
In this video, Techung invited three generations of traditional musicians to perform these songs live. The ensemble consists of five to six musicians each playing different musical instruments such as: Dranyen-long next lute, two kinds of Piwang or bowed fiddle, Lingbu or bamboo flute and Yangchin or Dulcimer. Techung enjoys collaborating with local traditional Tibetan musicians to engage with them and make them feel proud of their artistic heritage.
This work sample shows Techung's work bringing these endangered music genres alive through performances in English and Tibetan where the general public has the opportunity to learn the lyrics and stories behind the songs. He personally lives and breathes these music genres by recording them at home and performing them in community gatherings. His ultimate goal is that through this project the younger generation will find joy in this music and carry on the tradition. He also wishes that the global community find his music interesting and joyful.
