This was great. Cars that wrecked were still competitive at the end. Getting away from the generic 1.5mi ovals is the best thing Nascar could have done. More dirt and road courses have brought me back to the sport.
remember in nascar thunder 2004 there was the old daytona beach track, and in the pre race commentary they talked about what the sand would do to the finely tuned engines?
I had the pc version of nascar thunder 2004. We used to hack that game and I had built myself a 10,000+ hp nascar that we would drag race at daytona beach. If you went fast enough you'd blow through the wall. Also had one that would do 9 second lap times at daytona/talladega. Childhood was fun.
If you watched a full race from start to finish, you’d realize it’s as technical as any sport you’ve ever watched! You will also realize it ultimately becomes nothing about “driving around in circles”! There is sooo much strategy, aerodynamics, tire pressures, springs, shocks and tape on the grill that can make 1-2 tenths of a second difference per lap. At Daytona and Talledega, where they are running close to 200 mph, that’s 1 football field per second!
I think NASCAR will change it to night next year. Drivers said it was hard to see with the glare of the sun and the dirty windshields. Also the track might not dry out as fast at night. So yes you make a great point. Night would be better.
@@DuoXCity yeah, mostly flat dirt tracks across the country. They may have a slight bank, but nothing like Bristol. Martinsville has got half the bank of Bristol, it would probably be a much better race on dirt. I liked what we got tho, it was a fun race.
@@WorldwideWyatt Most dirt tracks also run cars that are designed to run on dirt. I don't know if NASCAR cars would even have enough grip to turn without the banking. And they certainly aren't meant to slide like dirt cars do.
Any dirt track in this country knows better than to run during daytime/sunlight. Just run in on a Saturday night as the sun sets. Yes, there are random occasions where a dirt track can pull off a daytime race but it's not often.

@@mc4820 windshield tear off only but of course only can be done on Pitroad. And driver can’t clean inside window while driving. No windshield and just have tearoff and driver helmet will be better
Been a fan for 15 years and I’ve never been as impressed with the cup schedule as I am for this year’s. Today’s race was an awesome throwback to NASCAR’s early days, and the batch of road courses are helping NASCAR evolve to a new level (so hyped for COTA - stock cars on a 3-mile FIA Grade 1 circuit, heck yes!). Throwing teams into uncharted territory often makes for great racing. Let’s hope the season continues to be this incredible! 🏁🏁🏁
I'm in Wisconsin so what you said, plus Road America, are getting me back to watching NASCAR. I haven't been paying attention so I didn't know they've been running the Daytona Roval (one of my favorite tracks), but there's so many other great tracks they're doing this year that I'm definitely going to be tuning in more.
Most fun race to watch in a very long time...😁👍 made the drivers work for it...Low vis & slick conditions... it was great.. BUT... Still needs improvement... 🤔 Keep the safety improvements you've made but get back to your roots with car bodies & tracks... you do that & I'll be watching a lot more nascar for more "back to your roots" racing...
I think they are starting to do that with the next gen cars. They still aren’t “stock cars” but at least they had fans in mind and made them look more like the stock cars they represent.
NASCAR is starting to draw me back in. Moving to more road courses and now the dirt and they will be testing wet tires on short ovals tomorrow. Loving what they are doing
👍 I really don't care for the double file starts with lead lap cars. I wish they would go back to lead lap cars in one line, lapped cars in the other. Lap traffic cars up front tend to fight the leader for the lap, which in turn lets the other cars stay closer for more battles at the front. Just my 2 cents....
Great racing. I've always been a fan of dirt oval racing. (Beats NASCAR any time.) I'm amazed it took NASCAR 50 years to get back to it. Think make a hotdog or two.

I love that they're bringing dirt tracks back, but at Bristol? It's one of the most iconic short tracks AND the dirt wears away eventually. It'd be wayy cooler if they'd go race at a true dirt track
I personally prefer asphalt better. This type of racing isn't cup series (yes I know Nascar started on dirt) but these stock cars aren't designed for dirt racing. They can barely see anything.
Denny Hamlin is having a 2003 Matt Kenseth type of season. No wins and a top 5 every week. The bad news for Hamlin is we will never see that old points format win you a championship.
Hockey: "We have the Winter Classic" (Games held outdoors in open air) NASCAR: "Well, we are going back to dirt races at Bristol!" Football: "Ummm...We could use nerf footballs or we can move the field goal posts back to the front? Make the players wear leather helmets?"
I am sure NASCAR will go into next year's Bristol Dirt Race with notebook pages full of ways to improve upon the racing on the dirt between the cars to the condition of the track itself. 2022 will be even better.

This is exactly what I’m seeing man. Coming in as a new fan I don’t think I’ve seen a worse community for growth than NASCAR. Constant complaints, usually followed up with haven’t watched since sr died😡 still commenting on videos 20 years later like a psychopath.
Great idea, poor execution. Remove the windshields and put in mesh nets instead and add some water during cautions, would've made for a 10x better race. Hopefully if they do it next year, remove the windshields and water some more, overall enjoyed the race but it could've been ran far better.
If the official NASCAR released highlight video is 10 minutes of wrecks that's not much of a highlight video. NASCAR will never admit it but after years of perfect races at Eldora this was about as close to a disaster as you could get.
As someone who has no clue about nascar it is wild to me that they decided to race on dirt with cars that aren't extremly grippy as is. Madness. Seems like nascar knows how to entertain :D
This is what NASCAR should be. It reminds me of watching On Any Sunday, when the(singular) AMA champion had to compete in road racing, TT, speedway, all the stuff.
Repeat sections like 6:40 to 7:05 are reasons why the editors should really proof-watch before uploading instead of just stringing clips together and uploading.

"Break neck" aka 80mph on the straights. Try watching the dirt late models. They were averaging 120mph and hitting 133mph on the straights.

Joey doesn't have the fan base of other drivers....but I think he races harder--each and every lap of every single race--than anyone in the field.
I am personally a fan of him and have been since he was in the 20 car as a rookie I believe
He wears down a lot of the field because of that. Love seeing him win the big events.

The trucks had issues with mud covering their windshields and grills. Wetting the track would probably just lead to more of that

Saw this in person and it was incredible, I'd watch 3 more dirt tracks a year but I want 2 more hard paved Bristol races.
