I feel the law should investigate those who prevented the victims from reporting.
They weren’t prevented. They were discouraged. Personal responsibility is good. As an adult you make decisions of whom or what to follow. If they were minors it would be different.
Why bother investigating events that happened decades ago? The court of public opinion has already reached a verdict.

I don't attach any weight to the fact that Masterson's wife filed for divorce days after his sentencing. That may just be a way of shifting assets out of the reach of victims who are now free to file claims for civil damages. His family are very tight-knit, with his wife, mother, and all siblings members of Scientology. If they all remain close, the divorce may not mean much of any substance.
I think this is the same reason why the wife of accused Gilgo Beach killer filed for divorce.

The victims in the Catholic church were mostly children.
They are being sued by the victims for their campaign of harassment and intimidation.
Danny should be transferred to a different parish.

once the two other Jane Doe’s came forward, statute of limitations were off the table bcuz multiple sexual assaults turns it into a felony. no SOLs for felonies. Had it remained only one victim, it would’ve been a misdemeanor.

Crazier/weirder still is that Masterson's now ex-wife's father, John Phillips of the 1960's music group _The Mama's And The Papa's_ faced allegations of drugging and "S.A." against her older half sister and others. When her sister went public with the allegations, much of their family denied it, said she was making it up out of whole cloth and said "it's not consistent with his charachter." Although several people admitted the suster had told them about her allegations many years before while their father was still alive. _Including_ Masterson's wife=John Phillips's younger dauggter from a later marriage. She said she was told when she was 13 and tgat it had a profound effect on her teen years, effectively ended jer childhood and made her weary of her father. Then after he died and her older half sister went public, she stated she'd asked her family "all the hard questions" and eventually decided for herself that her sister is "lying." Although many of his friends, peers and his own bandmate suppirt her allegations and those of others. With that much smoke around someone, its hard to believe there's no fire. Again, it's just crazy. What a coincidence that this woman has a father accused of drugging and "S.A.'ing" victims - allegations which she said she could not reconcile with the memories she knew of her father and thus, claimed to disbelieve - only to end up marrying a celebrity who himself ends up being accused and ultimately _convicted_ of the same crimes which her father had been accused. It's all quite strange and heavy. Especially when you add in Masterson's association with the cult of Scientology and the Mama's and the Papa's close friendship and association with Sharon Tate, Roman Polanski, Jay Sebring, Voltek Frykowski, Abigail Folger, the rumors of hedonistic sex parties at the Cielo Drive home of Tate and Polanski, Tate-LaBianca murders and the Manson cult. Lots of heavy weirdness. Hollywood is a cesspool.

There's as much evidence to disprove scientology as there is to disprove an invisible all powerful sky god that watches you sleep and knows what you are thinking. Bananas is bananas. The ruling faith-based religion(s) get to call it a "cult" without evidence. Islam insists that Christianity is a cult that insinuates Allah had a son. Are they wrong? Nobody can prove it is wrong. Wokism is taking presumed innocent people down and enjoys a lot of power today. It seems to be winning the war of ideas, so this tells us that fact finding doesn't matter when it comes to the spread of dumb ideas; it only matters how many people are behind it. This case really deminstrates that rape is about the power and control much more than the sex. When Masterson committed his crimes--the ones we know about, anyway--he was a young, wealthy, attractive, reasonably famous actor. In short, he was a man at the height of his attractiveness to women, and that attractiveness was considerably greater than most men could ever hope for. If the dude wasn't knee-deep in women then surely could have been if he'd wanted to be--getting more ass than a toliet seat, to borrow an evocative if indelicate phrase. And surely at least some of those women would have been game for whatever proclivities Masterson was into, inlcuding rape fantasies and/or having sex with an unconscious person. Masterson could have had any consensual experience he'd wanted, but there's the rub: he wanted to indulge his power fantasy by having the experience without the consent. And because he was a member in good standing of a creepy little cult, which, like all high control religions (or "religions," as the case may be) provide a structure seemingly tailor-made to protect predators, Masterson felt empowered to do as he pleased.
Rape is always about power and control over sex. If its regular sex there is no sexual excitement in gaining control over someone else to violate them. In regular sex thats abhorrant.

One of the victims was his live-in gf at the time of the rapes so, he could've had consent. However, he CHOSE to drug her and rape her because he liked it. OP is absolutely correct.

Anyone that feels like they have to ask permission to report a crime, needs to think about why they feel the need to ask at all. And cut ties with the person and/or organization that would advise them not to report a crime.
There's a thing called brainwashing. Google it. The victims were born into a cult that had strict laws against reporting crimes committed by other members to police. Each victim reported the assaults at the time, and scientology has documents and documents, including testimony from DM, from their own investigation. These docs were used in the 2nd trial, where he was convicted. In his own words, DM admitted in writing everything the victims described were true, it just wasn't rape. The auditor who evaluated DM for this matter officially determined he has a criminal moral code. The church only protected him because he was a high profile, celebrity scientologist and the serial rapist thing would have looked bad for them. Also, one victim went to police and reported it just a year after the assault because of how scientology was handling it. Imagine being raped and having "therapy" sessions to explore your past lives and see what YOU did to deserve what happened, and being threatened with being declared a suppressive person (an enemy of the church, who can be fair gamed, and you get cut off from any loved ones in the religion and much more. It's a cult so your whole life is this thing. Everyone you associate with, work with, do business with is in the cult. Being declared SP literally means you lose everything and probably will get harassed and stalked.)
But that is common amongst church goers. Go to the clergy first.

@@LDiamondz But it's not even as if Masterson tried to act the way Kutcher and Kunnis have described him in those letters. How do I know this? Because way back in the 2000's, Rosie O'Donald interviewed these two and asked them how the set handled their first kiss in that 70's show considering that he was 20 while she was 14 at the time. And they said that he was gonna try to not make it weird at first but then, Masterson told him "Dude, I'll give you 20 bucks if you deep tongue kiss her" and so, he did. They knew Masterson was a creep(and also an alcoholic). So why did they describe him as a nice, sober guy in the letters? Because they were both scientologists at one point in time(I think Kutcher still is one but Kunis left). Regardless, the cult still got dirt on them because scientology makes you reveal your most embarrassing secrets to them and they're obsessed with all of its active members having a clean reputation. So they forced these two to write these letters and make Masterson sound like a great, innocent guy who got framed, otherwise they will expose all the dirt they got on them.

As a former victim of sexual assault and DV, I want to say that it takes years to come forward….if we feel safe at all! In private, we are often threatened and do not feel supported enough to do it. I’m asking people to understand this dynamic.
It unacceptable. If a person is going to come forward it needs to be immediate or never except in the case of children. It’s completely unacceptable to expect people to believe charges stemming from an undocumented act a decade or more in the past. Nobody needs to understand that sort of cowardice. The scene in the movie "FaceOff" where John Travolta's characters daughter was in a car and got assaulted by a guy after a date was actually cast by Danny. (In the scene "john" saved her from "danny" and taught her to use a knife afterwards).

Scientology is a popular cult out in Hollywood. Not all celebrities are in it, but many of them are. Even people you least expect like Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Some celebrities may be misguided as to why they join this cult in the first place. In Danny Masterson's case, he grew up in the Scientology cult alongside his siblings. I believe they all have their mom's last name considering that she's a member herself. The only full bloodied sibling to Danny would probably be his brother Chris. Danny converted most of the main cast of That 70's Show to Scientology. However, Laura Prepon left that cult some time ago. Danny felt like whatever wrong thing he did would be covered up by the church of Scientology. This cult in particular has much clout and even paid off the LAPD in some cases.

That is definitely the best analysis I’ve seen on this topic. You clearly captured all of the complexities of this case. The fact that Danny was a swell guy to some people makes his offenses even worse. He had the ability to form very profound relationships. He not only had superficial charm, he conveyed genuine caring and concern for others. In some cases, he convinced them to avoid self destructive behaviors. However, his narcissism would not allow him to have any care or concern for his victims. I love that you’re objective about the case. You don’t care that he’s a rich famous actor (unlike some commentators who claim to be very anti crime but are defending him)
Sex offenders who get closely examined almost never match the implied and even explicit claims of the Pop psychologists.
Stuff like "lack of empathy" is almost always refuted quickly and easily despite claims that seem non-falsifiable like that "narcissist psychopaths" come with the ability to realistically imitate empathy they don't have.
The evidence also doesnt match the feminist ideology pop psychology explanation that sex offenders are motivated by oppressing women and far left indoctrination of youth is the only acceptable solution.
These guys have urges that are common, but are willing to do it to boot. They are very much let off the hook by being portrayed as zombies or androids with no empathy and just responding to irresistible urges and/or the programming by whatever exaggerated bad times their defence lawyer brings up to convince people "he didnt do it, his trauma did it".

I don't think people defend him because he ios rich or famous but because he was prosecuted and convicted so many years after the alleged crimes that he had no way of defending himself anymore. It's a shame because this truly ruins the warm and fuzzy memories I too have from growing up in the 70s as so well depicted in That 70s Show. Steven Hyde was a favorite character. Amazing how so many people and even his church stood by this convicted creep but immediately turned against him right after his conviction by redacting their testimonial support and even divorcing him. Now, that was great acting especially by Ashton and his 70s wife. Now they are stranded with the Masterson stigma!

How do people not understand that someone can be (or simply seem) warm, genuine, and generally pro-social, but have darker behaviors they hide?
I understand the cognitive dissonance, but "He can't be a predator because he's warm and funny and was nice to me personally," is just not realistic.
In my personal experience (I had a former friend convicted of a violent crime after he got completely hooked on opoids), most people who initially say these things eventually come around to the trutth. It's just an initial defense mechanism to their own selves...they don't want to believe they could have loved a bad person, so they have misplaced protest against the whole idea of it.
Not necessarily defending this, just offering some perspective.
I think a lot of these ppl charged for rape of women are guilty for something more heinous

I think it's possible for a person to be a predator but maybe they don't do much because they are afraid of getting caught. Then they join a group that makes them feel protected, so now they start to act out on their predatory impulses. They think they have a safety net. If this goes on for any length of time, then they will be SURE they have a safety net and their behavior will get worse. Then one day it's so bad that they get caught and not even their group can save them.
I know peoples gut reaction when hearing things like 13 yrs after the incident happened charges were filed makes you think it's just someone out to hurt another celebrity etc but in the case of the cult of Scientology they are ruthless and relentless when harassing people they paint a target on, for whatever reason they deem an offense to them. I don't think people even realize how powerful an organization these guys are and how far they go to dominate peoples lives. I fully understand why some of these women were terrified to press charges initially.
Scientology has actually tried to frame reporters for m-rder to stop them revealing the truth. And if you listen to some of the interviews from those who escape, they absolutely revictimize r-pe victims through torture (sleep deprivation, starvation, manual labor, degredation) and brainwash that everything bad that happens to them is their own fault. There's been a bunch of unalivings (su-cide or otherwise) that the "church" (and local law enforcement) have swept under the rug as "accidents" because of the inhumane conditions the members are subjected to. One young woman, maybe 18 or 19yrs, electrocuted herself after being continuously denied access to her parents.
But 13 years also means a long time to destroy or lose physical evidence. Also Scientology isn't on trial, Danny is. I think he did it but because his attorney did a lousy job defending him (no witnesses?) and thus I'm worried about him getting out on appeal.
I bet he did something that angered some Scientology big wigs and they threw him under the bus

It is strange that the accusers that have come forward are all reporting incidents between 2001-2003. Strange because if he has a history of this type of behavior, did it just stop after 2003. Was he on something. Was he just power hungry during that period then it subsided. That’s rhetorical. Doesn’t require an answer. Just food for thought. But the timeline that these reported incidents occurred when Danny Masterson was years into working on “That 70’s Show”. He was riding sky high on that fame. The peak of his fame actually. Since he was never as famous as he was while on that show. He took his power hungry fame and took advantage of people with it. While these victims were drawn to his famousness at the time only to realize he was a dangerous person.
I’ve had horrid incidents done upon me in the past ages ago. It’s never occurred to me 15 years later to go, “You know what, I’m gonna report this. I want justice.” I honestly just don’t care. It was so long ago in the past. I’ve moved on and healed and grown since then.
The glowing letters about Danny talking about how amazing he is can very well be true. He can be all of those kind and amazing things. He can also have this other side to him that did these horrible things during an earlier part of his life. People aren’t just one type of person. They are complicated. Granted we can all be kind and not be as horrible as he was in those rape instances. But we all certainly have less than desirable characteristics as well. No one is all wonderful. He may be a nice person now and has changed since then, but this is a perfect case where his horrible behavior in his past has come back to not only haunt him but take him down.
I would like to hear about how Danny Masterson treated the camera guys, production assistants, and food services staff on the set of, "That 70s Show." Let them tell their stories about Danny. I bet Danny was a monster to the "help" too.

Keep in mind the irony of a couple of other roles that Masterson played. A Date Rapist in "Face/Off." And in a cancelled TV show called "Good Girls don't..." he played a fictional version of himself, being a self-proclaimed victim of sex addiction. He made a quote played for laughs, "Nothing worse than being a guy with a 24/7 erection." The he was portrayed all through the short lived show, made you feel like he was someone you did not want around any of your lady friends.

I've always been confused about why perps attack those they see as inferior. Like, why not attack a superior, so you could prove your power. But, no, they hit the easy target. I guess this means rape and child sex abuse are primarily about entitlement and anger for not being to take whatever they think they deserve. I always thought of my dad as insecure and self-hating. But, that didn't stop him from feeling entitled to his daughter's private parts. Mom always told us to tolerate and support him because of his inferiority complex. It's different to think of them as entitled, but that's obvious now.
I'm sorry for what you had to endure and keep quiet about when you were just a child. I hope you've been able to heal.

He was a 17 yr old Ukrainian who was conscripted or volunteered into a German SS group (regular army didn't take non Germans) because he wanted to fight the Soviets after they genocided millions of people in Ukraine during the Holomdomore the previous decade.
