Breaking News! Iran has joined the war. Hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles were fired toward Israel with enough explosive power to wipe out entire cities from the surface of the planet. The US and UK had to get involved. They shot down hundreds of Iran’s projectiles - it was a successful interception mission. But there was a problem - the interceptions are too costly. The US and UK were forced to intercept thousand-dollar drones with 5,000% more expensive missiles. In a long enough timeframe, Iran could overpower the US and UK due to these disproportionate defense-to-attack costs. There is a need for something better. Interestingly, the US and UK already have this something better, according to the latest news.

Sadly, there are those that still follow totalitarian ideologies that use that ideology to secure power and then want more of it. They will never stop while the ideology still exists. It was what it was created to do 1400 years ago and yet still, some societies and cultures havent evolved beyond it. It was meant to unite warring factions in conquest and promote fanaticism and loyalty. But that aside, there is still China and they have their own ideology and are just as dangerous. I wish it were not so and we could focuss on moving mankind forward. We could be living in energy abundance and be exploring space by now.

It can take a little longer, but the heat radiation will still penetrate the surface. The heat energy will cook away the reflective surface/coating.

A ground based defence would seem to be highly possible. Batteries of laser based defence. With the fact that is it light based, not counter munitions speed and so cheap to operate, it could ultimately negate the threat of traditional ballistics almost entirely. Imagine adding this capability to the iron dome. Being ground based and not vehicle based it could be installed at even higher power levels (though I am not sure it needs to be really) and you could down almost unlimited numbers of drones and missles as long as your can detect and target them. In fact it wouldnt be worth attacking. Because you would run out of money to fund attacks with little or no benefit. Great news.
With regard to reflective coatings, The Lazer overheats the Target, causing overheating of electronic guidance systems and exploding Warhead.

I'm sure that any extraordinary progress will be top secret, but for a laser to be effective it must be able to at least disable a target in half a second or less. This is the only way it would be able to contend with swarms of drones we can only imagine that if the US is ever the target the quantity of drone swarms will be much larger than we have ever seen used before

The power output must be around 1000kw to cook these reflective mechanisms,the main hinderance is how to supply that power consistently to the laser beam without burning the power system itself.

It depends on the power output of the laser. Military lasers have around 60 kilowatts or 60000 watts it takes around 30 watts to melt glass, and around 2000 watts can do that without reflecting.
