I can imagine the lady who owns this cried twice. Once when she got it back the first time. Having had a piece of furniture ruined by someone ‘fixing it’ I know how she felt. The second lot of tears would have been when she saw your work. Tears of utter joy.
My grandfather taught me a little trick. When sanding with the highest numbered sandpaper which is the last sanding, sandpaper your sandpaper! Rub 2 sheets together. Any irregularities will be rubbed off and it will be really smooth.
Keep up your great work and keep loving the pieces. You need to love them to do them justice.

Looks way better!!! You do amazing work!!!! This is my Kind tip.....Be careful of the "leopard disease" only distress where it would naturally happen. You don't want a bunch of random spots all over your drawers.

I've been watching flip vids for 2 yrs now, soaking up all the info to apply to my own furniture. And i have yet to complete any of them bc of things shown on videos but not explained. Then, when i try out the "technique," it often leads to frustration and i have to walk away. I'll admit that i am a perfectionist and I try to tell myself that i shouldn't be, but then i think why the hell not?? This is my product. And whether I'm selling it or putting it back into my house, i have to live with the knowledge that I didn't LOVE the finished pc. U always explain what ur doing so well and in layman's terms so us beginners know what ur talking about and i so appreciate that. Please keep putting out this great content! God bless u & urs!

I often found that's true with Texan men. Very soft spoken, but maybe they don't feel the need to be loud. Not that they don't like talking like West Coast men, just they do it gently. Or maybe, it's just their women make all the noise for em ;). Bless you are your Mrs! Thank you for the video!

The whole idea of painting old furniture is to make it look rustic. Those chips and distress indents in the wood, is what i want when i buy a painted piece or paint one myself. As for the brush strokes, duh! In the old days and probably even now, there wasnt the luxury of a paint sprayer. If you want that look, go buy new. I made furniture for years out of old fences people were taring down. I couldnt keep up with the orders. I even used screws and put them in from the outside. This work killed my husband because hes been a professional cabinet builder for years ( no i never had a nice set of kitchen cabinets..lol ). Anyway we did a challenge. We both built a corner cabinet hutch and put them in a friends furniture store. His was perfect, spray painted, professionally distressed and varnished to perfection. Mine had brush strokes, screws showing, dents and holes and chunks of wood missing here and there . Guess who sold their piece first. MINE!. It made women so happy to see something so old looking. Not an older piece of furniture made to perfection. His never sold til the price was dropped alot. I didnt have much in mine so it was all profit. I think he made $30 on his. Your furniture looks and cost like new. But dont condemn the rustic furniture that is being made to look rustic. Your furniture is not for the people who want painted furniture. Too extreme. Oh well, to each his own. Dont critisize. We have a look we are going for.

Well done. You made a great job of that dresser. The worst thing about buying something already painted is you don't know what on earth is underneath. I have a buffet that I have yet to tackle and I'm afraid to start as it looks like the paint was thrown at it. Even the beautiful hardware is thick with paint and has become invisible. I've only flipped a set of lockers before so this is a big undertaking but I'm keeping it myself so any mistakes I make, I'll have to live with them or fix them. Thank you so much for answering my question about the wet sanding in such detail. You're an absolute darlin'. Loved seeing the slight appearance of the dog - it's rear end mostly! Not a dogs finest feature. Be great to see more of your furry friends in the future if they don't get in the way. Thanks again. Coffee coming your way. Ireland out

Great tutorial! That top is like glass.
The dark under coat looks great with the distressing - I’m not a fan of distressing in the middle or body of the piece, but I get that it’s a look that people like. I would love to see how a little dark wax might have tied the beautiful top to the lighter bottom. Thanks for the video!

You’re such a class act! I love your respect for other flippers. That speaks volumes to your character. This is helping me so much to know what to look for and avoid as I venture into doing this again myself. I’m not a total neebie, but I’m definitely not to your level either. Steel wool is good but be careful with oak. If little bits of metal get embedded in the grain, black spots will appear. A high count good quality sand paper will do the trick.

Such a pity that the person that did the job didn’t fix the problem, but 1000% in your favor for fixing this.
Thanxz for explaining the “wet-sanding”, I was wondering why you did that.
I was wondering if they swapped the drawers out into the wrongs slots, but I saw you checked that as well. I always number the drawers when I take them out, it’s always easier to carry these furniture pieces out and about with moving without the drawers in it.
Looking forward to your next video 👍🏻🇳🇱

Thanks for sharing your professional skills. I’ve refinished a few of my own pieces, and I’m very fussy. But I have learned numerous tips here. I just happened upon your channel. (I was looking for a tutorial on how to crochet snowflakes!) My interests are varied. I am a new subscriber for sure! Peace and God bless. I’m in the Philly suburbs.

So glad you do! ❤ First time videoing the work that goes into one of your pieces. Does it give a different perspective from me just picking them up and bringing them back amazing? Or is it like when the magician reveals how he did the trick? 🤔😂😂

Yes. I love the Kona color! I use a round blue sponge, pour a little poly intl a pie tin, cover the sponge with a nylon stocking for a smooth finish. I love how you tell us everything you’re doing. Beautiful work. Thanks.

Im watching from South of NewJersey. My2nd Video. Thank God she had you to correct the dresser. It looks beautiful. I just learned how to straingten out drawers when they don't work. Top of the Dresser looks great. I'm going to look into getting the red primer for a dresser that I'm enterested in painting. I have been putting it it off. Cause the top of it has shiny finished. I'm not sure if its formica. The entire dresser wood. Made from Bassett furniture co. I'm not sure if I can sand it. Thank you 😊

    • @DeanFurnitureArtist
      @DeanFurnitureArtist  2 роки тому +3

Hello from Texas. Yeah even with that primer you need a good surface for it to bond to. Don't need to sand it down to bare wood. Just need a good texture surface for it to grab to. I would take some 120 or 220 on a palm sander and just at least get rid of all the shine. That should give the primer something to stick to. Also if your are worried about bonding on a piece do light dusting thin coats and just build up from there. Sometimes dusting it a bit at a time can cause a better "sticking" of the primer then just covering solid with one pass. If that makes since?
