I was 13 years old when "If You Could Read My Mind" was released in the U.S. I'll be 65 in August and this is still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever listened to. Thank you, Gordo, for all the impeccably beautifully written and played music of our lifetime.
This performance in particular is overwhelming I can't imagine how great it would have been to be in that audience the pure emotion and the love and respect for this great but humble man.
I was fortunate to see him perform live in Portland Me in 2013. He was amazing. He came out full of energy, and the first thing he said was “ the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated”. The audience was packed, and not just with middle aged people who loved his music, but also with young people who appreciated the artistry and beautiful songs he created. He will be missed, RIP GL🌹🙏🏻
Yes, me too. Watching Gordon and with just the accompaniment of his acoustic guitar performing one of the most beautiful songs ever written is such an emotional experience ... even on UA-cam. Imagine being there in person?
This was only a few years after the aneurysm that nearly took his life, because of the incident his vocal cords which had already changed since 1982 had gotten damaged but he pushed and rose up. He quit drinking in 1982 and in 2019 quit smoking, he's a strong man mentally.
Can you imagine writing such a masterpiece about your own life and then growing old w said song. His children requested he change a word in this. Song. Gordon gladly changed a single word that most never missed. What a man.
He changed you to we. "The feelings that you lack" to the feelings that we lack for his daughter at her request. He wrote the song about his divorce. That line was to his ex wife. I have performed this song many times. It is one of the best songs ever written.
I want at this concert. Gordon Lightfoot and Bruce Cockburn were the best at Live 8. I was there and all they needed was their singing and guitar talent. Fantastic!
We saw him with his original band at the Gallo Winery in Sonoma, CA. Was a small venue and really special to see their show. Our kids were young and probably don't remember..lol
A man with a guitar. Nothing more needed. Powerful.
And those lyrics!!!
RIP Gordon Lightfoot
If You Could Read My Mind is a timeless masterpiece, and one of the most magnificent and heartfelt love songs ever created.

You're so fortunate to have seen Gordon live. I will regret not doing so for the rest of my life.
