Looks like he was only 61 here. Must've been the some health issues or hard living....he became so thin and his vibrato was gone. Still the very best ❤
The first time I saw Gordon Lightfoot was in the late 70’s when a wonderful friend whom I had a huge crush on arranged for a group of us to go to Massey Hall. I knew of Gordon Lightfoot’s music since the early 70s when my Grade 7 teacher introduced us to it. I still sing Pussywillows, Cattails when I garden. The late 70s crush was not reciprocated but I have maintained my relationship with Mr. Lightfoot. An amazing songwriter, arranger and performer with one of the best bands ever. Thank you for the amazing music. Rest in peace❤️
This live performance is my favourite and I watched it when broadcast in 1999 . This is how Gordon sound for the next 23 years . He always a professional and Canadian National Treasure ! We all will miss you Gordon . It’s hard to think your gone . I saw Gordon in concert many times . The last concert was at The renovation and reopening of Massey Hall 2022 . R.I.P Mr Lightfoot 🤗❤️🇨🇦🎸
Ruhe sanft, lieber Gordon!
Oh yes! All I have been doing since I heard the 💔 news is looking at interviews and any music 🎶 performances...I actually stopped crying, just to watch this... A true Canadian icon 🍁 and yes, hopefully he will be recognized into some hall of fame...
I have an old friend, u0 years old . Plays guitar for a community on Friday night. I encouraged him to learn a few well Known Gordon 's songs , from our roots in the 60,'s and early 70's. . He played them this past Friday, asHomage and Farewell to our Brilliant Singer , Gordon Lightfoot. He spoke about what the songs he played, meant to Gordon, and what he was going thought, as he wrote each song. He talked about his home town, and living in Toronto. I feel he took his songs and Bircon would have approved. May He Rest in Peace, knowing his Music, made our lives much better, because of his own ,ife History. 🕯🇨🇦☄🌠💔
Thanks for posting this video!!! This moment we are living in now, is an extremely sad but yet scary moment in Canadian history. Seeing this video was like putting a rainbow 🌈 in an endless storm ⛈️!!! Goodbye Gordo. 😢
Oh my, I so agree with you. He put Canada on the Map of Songwriters and Singers.! In June of 2022, you can see how sick he is... however, " the Show must go on " . Gordon, sang all the Old Ballads , and brought back many old memories for me. He will be forever remembered, and ever so missed ......Thank you, Gordon Lightfoot my Hero in my life . 🕯🇨🇦💔❤🎖🏆⚘🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I loved his song, " A Painter Passing Through" . For I am a painting conservator , passing through this life Historically. I felt as if these lyrics were written for people like us, the ones that keep the Old Masters Alive, and the Painters, ths I work with in my everyday life. For they make my work, look just as the artist intent. I Thank G-d, for Gordon Lightfoot, as he has been a Brilliant songwriter, since the early 60's . He only listened to Bob Dylan, back in the early days. This is what Gordon became today. Our Troubadour from Canada 🇨🇦⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🕯☄🌠🎖⚘💔❤🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
The album 'A Painter Passing Through' had some really great songs on it: the title track, Drifters, On Yonge Street, My Little Love. Gordon said the songs came to him more slowly, later in his career, but they were still wonderful to listen to.
@@Modernjazz1 Its a Brilliant, Beautifully Mastered Album; I do so agree with you! Canada, has many Great Musicians; in their own genre. None could compare to Gordon. 🧡⭐️🧡🎼🌅
Couldn't agree more this song was one of his very best .I could relate to this so much in my own life .I've said this before in comments . I believe if you listen to his music ,you can really appreciate your own experiences in life .just really listen to the words in any song and somehow it just reaches your soul
There will not be another Gordon! Met him 3 times, what a great guy. So was the rest of the band. Terry, Barry, Mike and Rick! RIP Gordon. Thanks for the memories.
Thank you very much for posting this - it is a wonderful show! If Willie Nelson can get in the RRHOF, Gordon should be going in. Sad he is gone - he shared so much with the world.
What a laid back guy awesome voice awesome musician saw him live in 1984 but listened to him all my life 😢🙏 R.I.P Canadian Proud Son Gordon Lightfoot 🎸🎙️
So sad to hear 😢 we lost this true artist and amazing 👏 person. I thank God for the 🎶 music he has given us that will live on in our lives. A great poet, singer, song writer and musician who takes me back to a sweeter and easier time in my life ❤️. Thank you Gordon 😊 I will always keep you near me through your music and the memories it brings of my earlier years and a simpler time in my life 💙 ❤️
I first stumbled on gordon lightfoot back in the late 90s when this video actually came out on much more music and 14 karat gold was the first ever lightfoot song that i heard! From thrn i became a lightfoot fan and while not a hardcore one anytime i hear any of his songs albeit when itd be for the first time it was like id known them for years. He along with other canadian treasures like bryan adams, tom cochrane, bnl, rush, and the barneaked ladies, bruce cockburn, etc is truly one of the greats we produced. Rest in peace mr lightfoot! And for a life fully enriched and most of all thanks so much for your brilliant musical gifts for future generations to enjoy!
Totally agree. I was introduced to Gordon lightfoot the same way via much more music and first ever song lightfoot song I heard was 14 karat gold. Lightfoot is one of those rare canadian artists where the stress melts away. He's our canadian equivalent of James Taylor! Great that he left such a great musical legacy. Rest in peace, sir!
Wow!! Jealous Lovers.. and so we cried. That song was the most personally moving song for me that Gordon ever did. I believe it was on the album Summertime Dream. Back in the 70s I learned every song on that album and performed them. That song was the favourite of my audiences, maybe because I always sang if from my soul. It is a song that I've forgotten about and was delighted when Gordon said he never did it for many years. To hear him sing it here brought many memories. Thank you Gordon in Heaven ❤️
Amen and amen well said and we will see him he is there and he is more alive now than he ever was here and this will be for eternity what a wonderful look forward that will be.
I have spent the evening of Gordon's 85th birthday immersed in watching and listening to videos. This is by far the absolute best, and a perfect end to this day. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing it!
RIP Gordon. Gone but truly never forgotten. Thank you for posting. I've got much respect for him for being able to stand up there and sing into his 80s and for everything else he has done.
Thank you for the video, Gordon has always been one of my favorite singer, songwriters and you obviously feel the same as I. I've played bass in many country western bands and it seems that in each one there was at least one of his songs that would make our song list, and there was always a great response from the audience including having them join in with us during the chorus. Personally I'm going to miss Gordon very much, so long to one of my favorite writers and performers.
There are times when I am so proud to be Canadian. Our immense contributions in world wars, Korea, peace keeping, the Cabot Trail, the CFL, Montreal Canadiens, the Canadian Rockies etc.. I am reminded how wonderful it is to be a Canadian in those times, people and places. When a Gordon Lightfoot song comes on the radio my world becomes still and in the moment. What a treasure!
This was one of his best! If it was on a tape I would buy it. A legend in his own time. Fist time I fell in love with his songs/singing was 1971 in MN. He was the best of the ballad and folky musicians! Will miss him but will see him again in heaven! 🙂
Sams rare...you bet, rare footage. Grand work! I zen bow to you...Oft wish I could rewind the clock, the years You did a nd that holds forever! Love your tribute, buddy from 🇨🇦 ( Kim sends blessings also) 🎉
I have seen Gordon and his band play several times in Portland, Oregon and once in Layton, Utah 2001. Gordon was gracious the times I met him as was Guitarist Terry Clement.

Gordy's voice like his great music transcends all time and space .he may be gone from this earth but his voice holds 🙏 we miss you so much Gordon .it's still so hard to believe he's passed on like the wind it carries his voice and his music across the mountains ,country side and of course the great lakes .his music reflects that .once again RIP Gordon .I listen to your music everyday so to hear your voice and music 💘

He never gave up, even when his voice was gone from damage due to surgery and other factors. Such a remarkable song writier.
He did what he loved right up until the end, what a way to go out...
This was before the surgery, just to know!
Looks like he was only 61 here. Must've been the some health issues or hard living....he became so thin and his vibrato was gone. Still the very best ❤
You know just like Terry Fox, Gord Downie and Neil Peart, Gord worked it hard until the very end. Hard working Canadians.
@@simplysusanc he was thin because he started working out and dieting. The change in his voice was probably because of years of smoking.
My sister and I were there in the audience. Amazing upload. Thank you. Somewhere I have this on VHS too. Thanks! #RIP Mr. Lighfoot

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is as great as any popular song ever released in the era of recorded music. It does not get any better.
I love that song!
He did it all in his fashion, “saying prayers and touching wood”. RIP, Gordon.🙏
