Surely this was the final season that both teams wore these style of numbers. I always thought by this point they were wearing their late 80s/90s style numbering that Illawarra, Roosters, Souths, and several other teams had at that point.
1988 was the final year that Australian clubs wore the old style forwards numbering. It became what we know today from 1989. The funny thing was that the Kangaroos test team had been using the international numbering since the 1984 Ashes series. It just took the rest of the country 5 years to catch up.....
You forget how absolutely appauling the goal kicking was in the 80s with the toe punt style.Pretty straight forward kicks are hitting the corner post. Really good footy though with great moves and handling
Back when Fatty actually had red hair lol. At this time in the NSWRL, I'd say that the then 19 year old Dale Shearer was the fastest player in the competition. Manly won the game, but the Bulldogs won the season.
Queensland team mates. Might have been Aussie team mates too had Fatty's Manly team mate Les Boyd not broken Brohman's jaw in the first Origin match in 1983. Ironically it was another Fatty team mate for both Manly and Queensland, Dave Brown, who would get the test selection Brohman was tipped to have missed out on. Boyd got selected in the first test against New Zealand alongside 5 of his Manly team mates, but was forced to withdraw when Penrith cited him over Brohman and Jim Comans suspended him for 12 months.
both teams had so many top players!
Gone are the days when they tackled around the ankles.

@@Holden308 Yeah, I realize that. I was actually referring to the style of numbers both teams are wearing, not the numbering system itself.

Who are the commentators? Rabs and ??
Bill Anderson was the colour commentator with Graeme Hughes on the sideline.
Graeme Hughes became the main commentator from 1987 onwards.
The Big Marn v The Fat Marn
