Jeff Beck - Guitar
Vinnie Colaiuta - Drums
Tal Wilkenfeld - Bass
Jason Rebello - Keys
As Tal said in one of her interviews - "Jeff is a living example that you can sing without opening your mouth."
Talk Wilkenfeld is an INCREDIBLE bass player...
And singer. Pretty beautiful too 😁
Love it when Jeff and her play together. That was a great night at Ronnie Scotts. She is so good. And well,he's Jeff Beck, a master.
greatest bar control of all time. No one plays it as good as Jeff, Will be missed greatly ..
Jeff was tapping out melody long before anyone ever heard of Van Halen or knew what tapping was
I saw Jeff Beck in concert in 2018 in Los Angeles. A true guitar god.
I saw him in 1976 right after "Wired" came out. Tommy Bolin opened for him. Saw Jeff again in 2011 with my 20 year old son. We were in the very back row, but still blown away. So glad to have been a witness to such musicianship and expertise. The man was a genius and virtuoso.
One of my two favorite guitarists. The other being Alan Holdsworth. I've been playing for over 50 years. The reason these guys are my favorites is because they are without a doubt the most difficult to emulate. The ease of which Beck manipulates the whammy while adjusting tone and volume knobs while thumb picking crazy solos all at the same time is incredible.
Beck and Holdsworth.
You obviously like guitarists that throw the rule book out. Well done.
Allan and Jeff were Frank Zappa's two prefered guitarists... I guess the explanation given by Anthony fits perfectly to what Frank thought. Shawn Lane was another incredible player. Each of those guys was "one of a kind" players.
So much more than just using a lot of whammy bar. Jeff created his own technique using the tremolo arm, volume knob, and bending all in fluid combination, swooping up and diving, down, always landing exactly back on the wire. In the documentary, "Still on the Run - The Jeff Beck Story," Jeff's mates Clapton, Page and Gilmour all comment on the difficulty of what he does.
jeff has developed that technique over time ..using the volume control and the whammy bar..truly unique..incidently..his best friend Jimmy Page is in the audience along with Robert Plant
I have listened to his records Blow by Blow and Wired at least 10,000 times since their release and I never grow tired of listening..........NEVER! RIP Jeff Beck and thank you for the music therapy you left for millions to enjoy and help them thru life. Great reaction guys, TY.
He created whammy before it was even a thing, his tone and style nobody could touch, that's a fact 🎸❤️ RIP Jeff Beck
The best ever for me
No one can make a guitar sing and I literally mean sing like Jeff Beck. Truly one of the greats!
Don't forget the drummer one of the best in the industry.
One of my favorite instrumentals EVER!
Tal is a singer songwriter from Australia. She's amazing! Well versed in Jazz and one of the VERY few whose bass is the lead instrument in her band.
Israel actually
Australia actually!! Born December 2, 1986 in Bondi, New South Wales, Australia. Anyway, as I was saying........
This is a killer performance from all concerned. And not only is Jeff Beck extremely gifted on the whammy bar, but his use of the volume knob, to eliminate the pick sound and then bring the volume up straight afterward, to create the violin effect, is absolutely genius, and very difficult to master.. Yes Tal Wilkenfeld on bass is just outstanding, and an Ozzie girl to boot, go Ozzies.. Good reaction guys..
Jef Beck is a 1 of 1 guitarists, he is the most awesome guitarists that ever lived, RIP Sir Beck
Awesome thanks for sharing this classic performance with Beck and Tal Wilkenfeld on bass always a treat!
It`s not just the whammy bar, he is using his pinky on the volume knob !
Love Jeff Beck's style, Listened to Blow by Blow and Wired albums so many times. Then you have Tal Wilkenfeld on Bass she is so awesome and a great solo artist.❤️
Some of the most impressive notes to grace sixteen measures ever. Thank you Tal. And to think she was twenty one years old here...
The great Tal Wilkenfeld, Australian bass goddess who everyone thought was Jeff Beck's grand daughter. She's talented on all her own, and didn't require royal bloodlines from Jeff, who is still King of the electric guitar.
This song was written by Stevie Wonder. Check out the studio version (which is even better IMO) on the album "Blow by Blow." It's a very emotional performance.
Blow by Blow's an immense album
w/ Stanley Clark?
Phil Chen is the bass player.
Loved this whole concert 😍♥️🤘🎶😁👍
One of the greatest
This is what total mastery of instruments sounds like.
Master of the TONE !!!
Be sure to watch the rest of the performance at Ronnie Scott's. It's all equally amazing. Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta perfectly accompany Jeff Beck. Tal was so young to be so accomplished at that time. Look for famous faces in the crowd, including David Bowie.
"If an orca could sing... don't you agree?..." - "Yeah, 'cause they have ended as lovers..."
CLASSIC.
What did Lukather say? "When God plays guitar, he uses Jeff Beck's hands"
Best guitarist ever
Tal Wilkenfeld on bass
You beat me to it!
Thank you so much for this one. This gig at Ronnie Scott's is absolutely legendary. Love the way Jeff Beck gives his guitar a 'voice'. You can
hear the anguish of the end of a relationship after Tal's solo, when that solo of Jeff's gives me chills every time.
His interplay with Tal is awesome, and Tal is one of the best bassists going around.
Not that the sex of the bass player matters, but there is a group of women bassists whose music I always enjoy, Paz Lenchantin, Misa, and Tal to name three.
R I P. Jeff Beck, his fingerpicking technuiqe was uniuqe. Listen to Stratus. Or something from his latest album, Loud hailer. Such as Right now, The revolution will be televised or The ballad of the Jersey wives. Jeff Beck was one of the best guitarsist who deserves more recognition then he has been given (so far)
Welcome to Jeff Beck. That's how he be doing things
You know you have pure talent when you impress a legend like Jeff Beck. Tal on Bass was only 18 when she preformed here
Love Jeff Beck's finger picking!
We all do!!!
This WAS OUR wedding song (first dance)
This song was from Beck's album 'Blow by Blow'; I saw him touring it in '74 or '75 in Toronto and some months later bought a bootleg of that show on the city's main drag. Saw him twice more in the 70s, sadly not since. Rest In Peace, Jeff.
Tal is terrific, on her own or with anyone she teams up with, I'm sure I saw a clip with Sean Lennon, John's 2nd son making awesome, interesting guitar noises too; no Jeff, perhaps, but a talented young artist.
Thanks a brazillion for this, take care and keep 'em comin', please 🙏🏽 ❤️
how Vinnie plays on Tal's solo ... in a class of his own
Using the whammy bar to hit specific notes is crazy hard. It's purely analog, meaning there are no keys or frets, it's like a trombone... you just have to know where the notes are by position, except with a trombone you are sliding several inches, his whammy bar is moving maybe a half an inch total!
he's not using position, he's just using his ear. it's just relative pitch.
In this song see how he uses his right pinky for volume, tremolo, and then a thumb for the rest. lol. Tal Wilkenfeld is bassist to not forget.
On your own time you need to see this gig! Incredible band! I have it on blu ray. I'll loan it to ya, but you gotta send it back 😅
Hey Hunterz, more Jinjer please.
2 specific requests are Home Back and the official live vid of Cloud Factory. You'll dig both of em, I promise! Love the channel, keep up the good work 🤘
Beck also plays with the volume control. And you saw his GENEROSITY toward the bass player.
Ok. Scatterbrain. Same gig. Get with it!!
In the Jeff Beck group....Jimmy Page played rythm while JB played lead...
Way late on this comment, don't know how I missed this reaction.? I saw Jeff in concert two times, he is one of my top guitarists duh. But Tal is one of my 3 top bassists along with Jack Bruce & Paul Macartney, Tal being that good plus being easy on the eyes tends to make her my favorite.
You know you gotta be good for Jeff to give you an extended solo. RIP Jeff he just died yesterday that is what caused me to find this reaction.
she was only 21 in this video she is amazing on bass
I could tell by watching her that she was unabashedly enjoying every minute of the whammy
Tal Wilkenfeld was 17 at the time of this concert. She had been playing bass for only 2 years at the time (she was already an accomplished guitar player). Before joining up with Jeff Beck she was putting on bass clinics with no less than Stanley Clark. Talk about having great mentors. A total natural.
So gentle you would think it was a Bigsby.
Ahah you two are a Gem ahah . Oohh oh what a monster on DrumZ the Great Vinnie Colaiuta !!! And FUN FACT ahah he is definitely using the "spatole" for sticks . I was hoping for those ! La piccola bassista e' monstrously fenomenal
Masterpiece
All the greats that know say..Hendrix would not have played the way he did without him knowing Jeff Beck and vice versa
You were dead on. He made it sing with emotion
The owner of this establishment was a sax player and played on a Beatles tracks years ago, “Lady Madonna”, but I don’t know if it was erased before it was released, or not.
“Angel (Footsteps)” from this has some lovely slide playing with impressively high sounds emanating from his guitar. He uses the slide all the way up to the bridge
Interesting metal related trivia, the drummer was on the Megadeth album, The System Has Failed. He’s awesome.
Numerous epic guitar pieces by Jeff Beck. I've been playing guitar for 50 years and I can hinestly say without a doubt he is the most difficult to emulate. Try the tune "Hammerhead" or Brush with the blues " from the who else album. "My thing" or "JB blues" from the album titled Jeff. And anything off of Jeff Beck Wired. The fact he is adjusting the volume knob, tone knob, and manipulating the whammy, while plucking with just his right hand is what makes Jeff stand out above all other guitarists.
I know the original piece is by Stevie Wonder, but in this version where Jeff plays the the melody line at the beginning it reminds me a lot like the sax melody in Careless Whisper by George Micheal. Obviously Jeff Beck recorded this way before. Also Tal Wilkenfeld is a world class basist and she's quite young in this performance. According to wikipedia she has played with Jeff Beck, Prince, The Allman Brothers Band, Blake Mills, Mick Jagger, Jackson Browne, The Who, Herbie Hancock, Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, Toto, Vinnie Colaiuta, Wayne Krantz and Ryan Adams at least and has a solo career going too. That solo was quite jazzy :)
Some of the best on their instruments. For Jeff Beck, it's not just the whammy, it's also the volume knob. He's constantly twiddling with it (so he's using the whammy, and his pinky is on the volume knob). Tal Wilkenfeld must have been only 22 or so when she did this album and she'd already been around for a bit. And the one and only Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. That whole album is just brilliant.
Tal was ALMOST 21 in this video. She had been playing bass for around four years and music for six. Musical genius at work all over that stage. Vinnie's resumé is a mile long. Jason is a keyboard whiz. Jeff is immortal.
I saw Jeff Beck in concert a few years ago with the same band. A true guitar god if there ever was one.
And a humble one too:"I played that song from John Mclaughlin in my way because...I can not do what John Mclaughlin does..."
Tal is awesome.
It's a Stevie Wonder song. Jeff's instrumental cover.
Tal Wilkenfeld is my top lady bassist, as you see why. Followed by Angeline Saris , Angeline is so incredible. She just finished up a tour with Todd Rundgren and plays in Nardia Michael Walden band, countless other projects and her own music . Then Rhonda Smith who played with Prince & Jeff Beck, so good. There are a lot of other really good players but these 3 lady’s top my personal list. Oh yeah Mr Beck is a damn good guitarist too. Lol. Thanks guys.
❤❤❤
Hey, there is a reason he is always mentioned in the same breath as Clapton, Page, Hendrix etc...............but then there is SRV !
This is a killer version of this song and you could not assemble a better rhythm section than Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Tal Wilkenfeld on bass (who was 20 y/o when this was recorded!).
R.I.P. Jeff, you will be missed!!! 😢😢😢
Here after Jeff's passing. RIP
Also remember on Family Guy when Peter was saying before he opened a box hoping for a boat “no whammy no whammy no whammy “ haha classic thanks again
Could you do a reaction of Peter Frampton's Can't Take That Away (Live In Detroit)?
So, what you can’t see is Jeff doesn’t just use his whammy a lot. He has his guitars made special with the volume control above his whammy, right below the strings. So, he’s whammy’ing AND playing with his volume...while playing. He’s unlike any other player ever. Try come dancing to see a very different side. And maybe big block from the crossroads guitar festival

1980 Jeff Beck in Dallas was a Top 10 convert for me. The man is a master of control on his instrument. I requested this one (I don’t go by my first name) because of the stellar bass work. I was aghast at her feel on this performance. Technical ability is lost with no passion and she has both. Any other bass fans out there, see Victor’s Jam from Victor Wooten here on youtube.
And that is the magical bass creature called Tall Wilkenfeld. The best part is when she blows Jeff's mind, and he forgets what he's supposed to play for a sec. Also blew the one and only Vinnie Colaiuta's mind btw.
And shes an Aussie!!!
For those who are curious: This is a great cover of Stevie Wonder's song.
What can one say !!!!!!!!!!!!
Stevie Wonder wrote Superstition for Beck, but released it first, which was a bummer for Beck. Stevie wrote this for him as an apology. Beck quit using a pick sometime in the 80's.
👍
Next is Big Block , Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's
Tal is considered one of the best female bass players , if not thee best female bass player of all time
great cover of Stevie Wonder song
Weird hearing it on the Strat; the original was on a Les Paul, and fatter (of course it also had George Martin production). But the bass on this version is spectacular
Not exactly : there's a Les Paul on the album cover but this particular song was played on a Telecaster.
"The guy on lead guitar".... ?🤭
from this same show try - "Nadia"
Beck is one of a kind, so is Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta and the keybordist, whose name slipped my mind. Wonderful performance.
Jason Robello is the keyboard player
No ego at all.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOW...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.
LOL.😁😉😉😁
Tal Wilkenfeld is not bad either😁
to me beck is only behind jimi and duane all-time..a giant
Who the heck are those two bozos?
I gotta stop watching this since they are so irritating.
Sorry Jeff.
