Imagine just discovering Jeff Beck, huh... so Beck is one of the original guitar Gods. He was in the Yardbirds after Eric Clapton left (1965), and brought in his good buddy Jimmy Page (who would go on to form a little band called Led Zeppelin afterwards). Clapton could only play blues solos... because Beck had not yet come along and pretty much invented the modern rock guitar solo. The man's influence (not exactly control, because he's always intentionally slightly out of control) over what's going on with the guitar is unparalleled. Note how he's modulating the tone by using the volume control and myriad finger techniques in addition to, as you noted, the constant use of the whammy bar (that's what most call it, the technical term is a tremolo bar). He's pretty much inventing all of that on the spot, other versions of these pieces can sound distinctly different. A guitar player's guitarist. He haunted small venues for most of his career, never really striving for fame, but just doing his thing with some of the greatest players out there. He is tremendously missed.
@treacadelic saw him live a few times absolutely brilliant no one sounds like jeff again one off thanks jeff for all the years of listening to you rip sadd loss
Dude, I saw him at MGM in CT just after this show. Jeff was as indescribable as he is uncopiable. Total gentleman and crazy generous to other performers who are always top notch. Saw him earlier in 1989-90 with SRV before his death. They were good friends from that tour and respected each other immensely. He was definitely proud of Tal Wilkenfeld (bass) but she's just a discovery. Tal loved him though.
"Stratus" is a song by Jeff's old friend Tommy Bolin He was a genius who was said to be a little below Jimi Hendrix and a little above Jeff Beck. He was a real genius who went from the James Gang to Deep Purple. He was an unparalleled guitarist who died young. Listen to Billy Cobham's Spectrum. He is performing at the age of 22.
It's funny when you said how familiar Jeff Beck looks, like maybe you've seen him in films? Well, if you've ever seen "This Is Spinal Tap" then you were close. Christopher Guest, who played Tap lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel based Tufnel on Beck, right down to the haircut, sleeveless shirts and seriously loud guitar playing (the Marshall amp scene: "These go up to 11" 🤣). Comic brilliance and the perfect parody! And yeah, Beck was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Loved this band with Tal & Vinnie. Glad you've discovered another legend.
@@L33Reacts Exactly! As they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Iconic. Timeless. The chemistry between them all through this show (Ronnie Scott's Club, right?) is so great. Tal could have been Jeff's r/l daughter and the joy, shared respect and sense of fun between all three is heart-warming to watch! 💗 Jeff was a real musical trailblazer, and he never stopped taking chances. 🎶
An all-time great on the guitar, no-one sounded like Jeff Beck, his touch and feel were uncopiable. While I managed to see him a handful of times over the years I missed this entire week at one of my favourite venues, which I have always regretted. The DVD of the set is tremendous. There's a great live clip of JB when he was inducted into the RRHoF in 2009 - with the same band with added Jimmy Page, definitely worth your time, but there's an absolute ton of great JB music to check out. RIP Mr. Beck.
For a good example of one of Beck's guitar techniques, see "Where Were You" from this same gig, where he uses the whammy bar to play melodies with harmonics. After his 1965-66 stint with the Yardbirds, and 2 Jeff Beck Groups with vocalists, his next albums showed the influence of fusion's Mahavishnu Orchestra. The drummer of that band, Billy Cobham, had "Stratus" on his first solo album, and Beck had Jan Hammer of that same band play on his next few albums.
No question , there’s no one like him ,the subtle control he had and the emotion in his playing was amazing, he definitely seemed to be influenced by Roy Buchanan, Carlos Santana once said that jimmy page was the best arranger and a great player , but that all the top players know beck was the best among them , if it’s good enough for Carlos it’s good enough for me
This performance is amazing. 3 incredible musicians. My 2 favorite Jeff Beck albums are Blow and Blow and Wired. Hope you check out both albums in their entirety. You'll love every piece on both.
Sad loss one off brilliant guitarist no one will sound like jeff again master of the whammy bar and volume control and don't forget the great musicians on stage that night saw jeff a few times always put on a great show
As you already know , Tal is not his daughter , and at that time she was considered one of the best if not the best female bass players ever . The song Stratus was actually from Billy Cobham and Tommy Bolin , from the album , Spectrum . Vinnie , the drummer , used to play with Frank Zappa . And you'll notice that Jeff Beck does not use a pick . This has to be one of my favorite concerts , Live At Ronnie Scott's ! The whole concert is incredible ! More Jeff Beck please . And then for someone different , you need some Tommy Bolin in your life , how about Post Toastie !
I also wanted to mention something that a drummer friend of mine pointed out and that is that Vinnie is a polyrhythmic drummer. So for instance while he is playing one rhythm on the snare etc he is playing a totally different one with his feet. I have no clue how rare or common that is but it boggles my mind and I never would have noticed. My friend cited one of these Ronnie Scott videos as where he noticed it but I am afraid I don't remember which song it was on anymore.
Okay One more suggestion According to Tal , Jeff was having a problem with his amp and stopped the concert while it was being fixed. So she came up with the idea that they both could play her bass to fill in and it became a thing.... Jeff Beck, Freeway Jam + Blue Wind, Live in Japan 2009 Feb. 21 .....It is Tal playing freeway jam while jeff is also playing her bass.... BTW Freeway Jam and Blue Wind were my favorite Jeff Beck songs in the early days.
@L33Reacts Born in 1986 she actually was 21 when she auditioned in 2007 .Jeff just thought she was younger like 14. That's why people think she was younger. It was the drummer that recommended her. Jeff was always joking around according to Tal. That's why Jeff thought it was a joke and thought that she was his girlfriend or something. That is why you will occasionally see Tal laughing at something he said or an something he played different. Many of the songs are never played the same. Tal is always playing attention to what changes Jeff does. and at the end of this one i wish i knew what was so funny to her---.>Jeff Beck - Brush With the Blues (Live at the Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007)... He never ended any song that way before.
I totally thought she was his daughter! Like forreal. The way he looked at her was such a fatherly gaze. Alas, I was unwise. But this was amazing. I absolutely want to hear more from them.
I don't know if any one told you this but the drummer who brought her to see jeff was Vinnie Colaiuta, who took over the drum stool from Terry Bozzio in Frank Zappa's band@@L33Reacts
I stand corrected. But even at the age of 21 she is amazing. Other than Jaco Pastorius I can’t think of any other bass player that was showing that kind of skill at that age. I’m sure there’s some out there, but she definitely is shining bright early on!
Jeff Beck is the most unique and uncategorizable musician. Hard to say what are favorites, there are so many. First thing that comes to mind is Blue Wind and Play With Me from the Wired album for something let’s say more approachable.
CITRUS - I can watch this video again and again and again. The Yardbirds weren't big enough to hold both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. So of course they both went off in different directions... Another side note here... gosh I'm full of them... George Martin produced the album that Cause We've Ended As Lovers comes from... And when you watch Jeff play his right hand is doing so many things... playing the strings, whammy bar, pickup switch and volume control... all whilst playing like butter... Superb. Keep on Rocking.
"Stratus" is by Billy Cobham, that's why it is often chosen by those jazz bands who want to brag about their drummer. My favourite version is by Senri Kawaguchi: ua-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/v-deo.htmlsi=nhInPLmaJRgg2BoX She was 18 at the moment, and from that performance, you may understand why many people say she is currently the best jazz drummer active in the world. Akane is the best drummer in rock, and Senri, in jazz. That's my two favourite drummers.
When Beck's five-night run at Ronnie Scott's happened, I was working about 100 yards away in the Centre Point tower. I was probably further away vertically than I was horizontally! But I missed it. Have you ever regretted missing a gig? I regret missing all five of them.
The first song that made me go..."Woah...wait a second..." with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums... was Keep it Greasy (so it goes down easy) by Frank Zappa. in 1979.
It's NOT his freakin daughter, what you're watching is intense mutual admiration for each of their off the charts talent. He had almost 60 years on her. No he's NOT her grandfather. Do you're homework if want a successful channel.
Jeff was one of the all-time greats, absolutely love Tal too, this performance was the first I had seen her, and every performance at Ronny Scotts is great. Check out Tommy Bolin a guitarist you likely never heard of who not only was the genius behind the original Stratus ua-cam.com/video/bRkW3qwXdYI/v-deo.html but Jeff had acknowledged that Tommy was one of his inspirations for Jeff getting into fusion in the firs place. Tommy died young at 25, but left behind a pretty incredible rock music catalog but could and did play any genre. I believe I read somewhere that Billy Cobham the drummer and whose album it was just let Tommy go where he wanted. I know Tommy did not read music. Then if you are into a great rock guitarist, singer song writer from the 70's that too few people know, get on down that Tommy rabbit hole and you will need a long rope to climb back out, but you won't be sorry.
Tal was in her early 20's when she played this gig with Beck and Calaiuto. She's in her mid-to late 30's I believe now, and has only gotten better. The death of Beck, I have no doubt, left her shattered. He was so much of a mentor to her, and in many ways, a second dad. I believe she has expressed that opinion about him in interviews with her. So in a sense, you were correct in thinking she was his "daughter. 😀
I have to give a shout out to Tal Wilkenfeld on bass ,she’s so talented . Tal Wilkenfeld, Angeline Saris & Rhonda Smith are incredible bassist/ musician who are worth anyone’s time. Right up there with Jaco , Victor Wooten , JPJ.
This was a legendary performance. Also. there were other musicians like Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in the audions. Clapton even played the encore with Jeff's band.
The drummer is Vinnie Colaiuta - who I'm sure you will see popping up in various bands as you explore music on your channel, Lee. He's played with so many 'greats' you probably won't be able to avoid him!
I'm going to request THE BEST guitar solo by Jeff Beck... and there are many fans of Jeff Beck today that might not even know that this song exists... so...listen up kiddies,,, the BEST SOLO by Jeff Beck is a song by Stanley Clarke... it's called "Hello Jeff"... and everybody should listen to it... it is guitar solo orgasm heaven.
1967 Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) were members of the Yardbirds including Eric Clapton. If you watch this entire performance, available on UA-cam, you'll see Jimmy Page, Steve Perry (Journey) and the who's who of the Music Industry. See the entire show....will give you chills.
Jeff treated her like a daughter. And he was in so many big name bands. He was a true master of sound who died way to young. Correct title of second sone is Cause we ended as Lovers
She asked me to stay, and I stall her room She asked for my love, and I gave her a dangerous mind Now she's stupid in the street, and she can't socialize Well, I love the little girl, and I'll love her 'til the day she dies She wails Jimmy's guitar sound jealousies scream Waiting at the light, know what I mean? Scary monsters, super creeps Keep me running, running scared Scary monsters, super creeps Keep me running, running scared Requesting Bowie- scary monsters Fripp is on this album
Well shit, everyone already pointed out she’s not his daughter and the drummer played with Zappa, guess I’ll just say that drumming was sweet as citrus!
Way back Jeff famously smashed a guitar I the BlowUp a famous sixties counter culture movie. Here are some ideas, Over Under Sideways Down. Jeff replaced Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds for this hit. After the breakup of the yarbirds, page found plant , started the new yardbirds aka Led Zeppelin. Jeff joined another obscure at the timesinger Rod Stewart. Morning Dew from their record Truth.
Jeff would disappear for years and work on race cars. Saw JB with SRV once. Actually had a board tape of local concert from mid 70s. Had no way to copy tho. Same as FZ at Wash U and Joni Mitchell.
Tal is not his daughter, but she did live with Jeff and his wife for a while. She came alone from Australia to LA. when she was fifteen. Jeff was looking for a bass player for an upcoming tour. His drummer Vinny brought her to an audition. Jeff thought there was no way this eighteen year old could be very seasoned. He realized his mistake quickly when Tal would point out some of his errors.
Jeff Beck/ Blow by Blow, is a smoking jazz funk fusion album from the 70,s! You gotta check it out! It,s sad that the majority if the people have no musical taste, there stuck on computerized pop, or Heavy Mental music??
Ah yes, the Ronnie Scott's gig. Great band, although the keyboards are largely superfluous (sorry, Jason) on several tracks. Jeff Beck was the only 'guitar hero' from the 60s who continued to surprise. It's not just his progression through a series of genres and styles down the years, his playing was surprising in the sense that you seldom knew where he was going from moment to moment. He obviously picked his phrasing carefully but also kept improvising enough to keep things interesting for himself. I think I first took notice of his work on Donovan's Goo Goo Barabajagal and only later realised that the advanced Yardbirds' stuff of yore was largely his doing, I'm also very fond of his second solo album Beck-Ola. Lee might like the fact that it contains a pleasingly large dosage of Nicky Hopkins!
Just letting you know, I know she's not his daughter now. I apologize for the mix up. He was definitely giving off proud papa vibes and eyes!

L33 , I love Jeff and all but I was watching you the whole time , priceless!!
Jeff never had any problem with his amps. Tal did a softer solo in Japan few month before London.
Thanks for clarifying Tal’s age. I’d heard she was very young
I don't know if any one told you this but the drummer who brought her to see jeff
was Vinnie Colaiuta, who took over the drum stool from Terry Bozzio in Frank Zappa's band@@L33Reacts
Also the drummer here.
I wore out the Wired Album on Blue wind and Led Boots (maybe a play on Led Zepplin and Jimmy/)
His version of A Day in the Life IS INCREDIBLE
My favourite version is by Senri Kawaguchi: ua-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/v-deo.htmlsi=nhInPLmaJRgg2BoX
She was 18 at the moment, and from that performance, you may understand why many people say she is currently the best jazz drummer active in the world. Akane is the best drummer in rock, and Senri, in jazz. That's my two favourite drummers.
I loved Jeff when he was in the yard birds one hell of a guitar player the best my opinion ❤
Tal Wilkenfeld is the re incarnation of Jaco Pastorius... For me she is one of the best bass player of the moment...
On this video she was 24 ...
When Beck's five-night run at Ronnie Scott's happened, I was working about 100 yards away in the Centre Point tower. I was probably further away vertically than I was horizontally! But I missed it. Have you ever regretted missing a gig? I regret missing all five of them.
The first song that made me go..."Woah...wait a second..." with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums... was Keep it Greasy (so it goes down easy) by Frank Zappa. in 1979.
I think she was 23,,,,,,,,Jimmy is world renown
My heart is still heavy about the passing of this master!! RIP.
Check out Beck’s version of nessun Dorma live from Crossroads concert
It's NOT his freakin daughter, what you're watching is intense mutual admiration for each of their off the charts talent. He had almost 60 years on her. No he's NOT her grandfather. Do you're homework if want a successful channel.
Not his daughter Tal Wilkenfeld . The 60s band the Yardbirds spawned 3 phenominal guitar players Jeff Beck Eric Clapton and Jimmie Page
Jimmy. And yes, it did spawn three giants
And if memory serves the audience was like a who's who of famous musicians.
Tal Wilkenfeld has her own band. And she can sing! Check "Killing me"!
JB: personal deity since the 1960s. You’ve got to check out Blow By Blow; the drumming on there is God-like!
Vinnie was using brushes, on the second song! He,s a world renound drummer! I saw him with Sting! He played with Zappa, and countless others!😊😊
Citrus. If you want to bear his guitar sing react to Nessun Dorma and Over The Rainbow, both from the Emotion and Commotion Album
Brush with the blues also great same gig. Studio ver of cause ended great too. His daughter plays same solo live in front of 60K? Pretty cool.
Ah, that was great! Almost feel like a cigarette and a nice citrus drink!
The guitarists guitar player. Best ever. RIP Jeff 🙏🏻 There's a superb documentary available called Still on the Run - check it out guys 🤟🏻
Tal was playing with Jeff about 2 years when this was recorded. You should check the performance from Clapton's 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival.
Jeff treated her like a daughter. And he was in so many big name bands. He was a true master of sound who died way to young. Correct title of second sone is Cause we ended as Lovers
we'll skip talking about your mistake...lol... one thing that is important....that's the drummer from Frank Zappa 1979 to 1980.
Vinnie Collaiuta.
I’m sure Tal would be honored at your mistake 🙏
I hope so 🙏 it seemed so real 🥲
She asked me to stay, and I stall her room
She asked for my love, and I gave her a dangerous mind
Now she's stupid in the street, and she can't socialize
Well, I love the little girl, and I'll love her 'til the day she dies
She wails Jimmy's guitar sound jealousies scream
Waiting at the light, know what I mean?
Scary monsters, super creeps
Keep me running, running scared
Scary monsters, super creeps
Keep me running, running scared
Requesting Bowie- scary monsters Fripp is on this album
Eric Clapton said that jeff beck had notes on his guitar that he didn't.
Do "I ain't Superstitious!' Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart
Tal Wilkenfeld has played bass with the some of the greats of jazz fusion ie Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, she is a legend in her own right..
Check out the song “Angel “ from live at Ronnie Scott’s
Jeff Beck/ Blow by Blow, is a smoking jazz funk fusion album from the 70,s! You gotta check it out! It,s sad that the majority if the people have no musical taste, there stuck on computerized pop, or Heavy Mental music??
His daughter? Dude . . . Crack a book.

"cause we've ended as lovers"
Lee.....FYI Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were in the audience. Jimmy and Jeff had known each other since they were 13 years old.
Not his daughter . ..Tal Wilkenfeld from Australia !
Yeah I'm dumb I didn't realize that till after LOL
That's Eric Clapton "Crossroads! 2007 Blues Festival !"
Tal and drummer Vinnie were (might still be) at some point an item together.
She's really cute. Good for him.
He's not a guitarist , he is the guitarist.....
And nobody mentions one of the greatest drummers ever, Vinnie Colaiuta. Known from Zappa, Sting and many others. 🧐😁🇩🇪
Check out his version of Nessun Dorma from the Crossroads festival
👍🏻
I don’t know why you presumed that she is Jeff Becks daughter. Her name is Tal Wilkinfield from Adelaide Australia.Jeff is English .
'Cause We Ended As Lovers' - Stevie Wonder tune.
