That’s basically the idea. A lot of martial arts have different techniques with that idea. Bending or twisting a limb to the breaking point where if they don’t go with the flow, it’s going to break. So they basically flip themselves to the ground, not really you being strong enough to just flip someone over with brute force. The idea is they just naturally go with the movement to relieve the pain and prevent a broken arm, wrist, etc. I believe Aikido does have some effective self defense techniques that can be used in your average self defense situation against some untrained dipshit who saw you as an easy target and decided to jump you and only knows how to throw random haymakers and trying to get you on the ground to get on top of you. That’s basically what it was created for. It’s obviously not the thing to use for all out brawls, or against very skilled offensive fighters/boxers. It’s a self defense system, not a brawling/fighting system.
In all martial arts and fighting teaches balance....having great balance is the key to being s great fighter...if you can knock your opponent off balance then you have the upper hand of beating him.
@@uome20bukz ya well watch a sensei with a bowstaff and good technique and I'd say I disagree - the ability to remove weapons from an opponents hands and use weapons with aikido is astounding

I love MMA, but the discipline and beauty of traditional Japanese martial arts are truly inspiring. Karate, Jujutsu, Aikido, and Judo are martial arts treasures which I hope will never be lost.
Aikido was developed for people that already have experience in fighting based on what I found out. So it will work well if you already know MMA, not if you don't have that experience.
So "punsh in the face" is the best plan? Or what is the message of this? I don't think "punsh in face" is a good plan Perhaps the attacker has heavy kicks, or a good takedown...where do you want to punsh then? I don't think "punsh in face" is wisely
Hey Raju does that mean we should all behave ourselves and quit martial arts because "everyone has a plan untill they get punched in the face?"Does that mean people can't freely discuss Martial Arts including boxing?
@@LightPresident95148 Oh, I was just quoting Mike Tyson for the metaphor. His quote more so places emphasis on the fact that when confronted with an actual crisis/self defense situation, people often forget a lot of their training and things go awry. That's why it is important to make sure a person incorporates training that is stress-based and as realistic as possible. To ensure that their body reacts appropriately to the situation and they apply that kick, punch, elbow, e.t.c. In Akido they often don't do much stress training or hands on sparring. .sorry, but your opponent is not going to stand there as you try to apply the perfect joint lock or throw. Now if you incorporate some akido into your daily sparring secession with an opponent that's trying to resist and strike back. .there's some decent stress training.
What I find interesting about Aikido is it's almost like a passive-aggressive martial art why you take a sort of passive defensive posture but when you execute the moves you are in a sense being aggressive I like the idea that it's not all kicking and punching but it seems to me that you have to be very patient and remain calm so you can execute the movements rather than give in to the natural urge to strike back.
The problem with aikido is that people don't let you grab their wrists in real fights. And disciplines like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and wrestling have their own wrist locks. Aikido is maybe 5% effective in a real fight. Do you want to spend a decade becoming a black belt in something that's 5% useful? I don't.
@@RictorIAG that does make a lot of sense. I think the problem is that the aikido techniques work but as I was saying one has to be very patient and wait for that opening or like you're talking about wait until they can get that that grab or connection to the other person's hand wrist or arm to execute a move and so it limits your potential reactions to your opponents attack.
@@RictorIAG The problem is this was used for self defense in samurai era, not for a fight. If people want to kidnap you, they'd definitely grab your hands instead of just fully punch you. Why they focus on grabing arms? It's to remind you that the enemies can use their katana anytime

He did another video showing punches with somebody who had been trained to really attack and not get hurt . @El Lorenzo I have known policemen who used aikido to restrain violent men. Better for that than karate which could be better for different circumstances .
I see a lot of negative comments about the effectiveness of Aikido. In my own, limited knowledge of the art, I can honestly say, that if done right, coupled with speed and precision, it will work on about 95% of the population. People that want to dismiss it, because there aren't any Aikido practitioners getting into the octagon with 250 pound monsters, that punch and kick things all day, are presenting a bit of a false argument. Most MMA fighters wouldn't get in a ring with Iron Mike Tyson in his prime, either, for the same reason. Fighting for a living, and defending yourself, are two very different things. I've used Aikido "on the street" and it's left some of my attackers, in tears.
Yup ,fighting with a refree in am octagon and fight in the street is a whole diffrent thing.Too bad idont had a dojo that learn aikido.if it was exist ,ill definitely train with them.
The grabbing of the arm and the techniques being used to counter the grab are just examples of what can be done. People make the mistake that brute force, punches, kicks etc will win. Aikido is all about using the opponent’s momentum, body movements, physiology against themselves. I did karate for over 10 years and had the opportunity to ask an aikido master to counter my attacks. Truly amazing what a master can do...all with minimal effort.
Been in aikido many years ago, i saved someone life after i taught him this art of self defense he took down 2 people and manage to take away the knife from other person and after years not seeing each other and we met again he cried and was grateful i teach him this art.. Im not master of this art but when i was practicing our sensei appreciated and he teach us to punch with speed and force but with control, we have bit resistance when we take down to be more realistic. So most of our attack was executed with intent to hurt or kill but with control so to avoid fatal injury or death if ever the technique wasnt properly execute. And flip and rolling by the way is one important to learn to avoid injury. Aikido is not meant for sports its a way of life and live in harmony and use the art if really needed to defend yourself and your family.
"Evade today and live another day" It takes a lot of courage to beat someone up but it takes more not to fight for the welfare of you and your partner. In Aikido, your attacker is not called opponent but partner (because partner means a mutual relationship where you can create harmony together binded by peace, respect, and love)

Aikido is built around some sound concepts about exploiting the skeletal and directional weaknesses of an opponent, but the lack of randori (free sparring) leaves its practitioners at a disadvantage to martial arts that allow participants to test themselves against a resisting opponent. Aikido + Randori = Judo
As in most cases, it primarily depends on who practices it and whether you are dealing with a professional or not. Most professionals, including Aikidoka, would practice in several disciplines btw.
My biggest issue with aikido, coming from a Shotokan background, is they don't know how to block. Especially when it comes to someone with a wicked roundhouse kick!!!
@@bmf572 Blocking is fundamental martial arts; stuff people learn when they are children learning the basics. Aikido is advanced technique for people who already know the fundamentals. In Aikido you unlearn the foundational stuff in the martial arts to move beyond basic blocking so that you avoid the strike altogether by moving your body out of the way of the attack.
I always enjoy your videos. I was trained as a boxer and also studied Kenpo Karate, although I went through all the moves and altered them to be effective against people as big and strong and as fast as I was. I called it Mean Kenpo, and Super Kenpo. But I never teach it to anybody. But enough of me, I like how you have demonstrated how powerful Aikido is when you combined joint locks and the various strikes with the takedowns. Beautiful. Of course, the strike could be your hand, or foot, or the weapon they attacked you with. Actually, you have done the same thing with Aikido, making it so powerful, the same way I did all the Kenpo moves. So one should never be quick to criticize any fighting art because many things are not seen, or revealed, or known. Would you add some videos where you use Aikido against a sword. People say that nobody attacks by holding out their hand to be grabbed, but that is unfair, as there are many ways in real life to transition into that. But another reason is that in a way, it represents an unseen sword being thrust straight forward at the defender. A straight thrust is seen in all sword styles. Fencing may be the fanciest demonstration of the technique. I dare say the ability to sidestep and defende against that thrust could allow the implementation of some of the moves I have watched you use, to disarm as you takedown the attacker and then use the weapon against him .... assuming that seems the best thing to do. (Maybe there are several more to deal with.) It would great to see you deal with this, if you would. Thank you, ShiraKawa!😀👍
As big and strong as u? I get it why u would NEVER teach your awesomeness and extra dangerous moves to anyone because they are far to dangerous & effective. Multiple people could die just thinking about it. BTW, did u ever study at Segal's Dojo?
I think Aikido's wrist locks, some of the throws and mechanics will work in real life. It would be situations where people are at the shoving aggressive stage. Someone grabs a hold of you. You catch them in a moment when they are not prepared. Arguments fights don't immediately start at fists being thrown. You see elements of it taught in the combined art taiho jutsu used by Japanese police.
Exactly I did jujitsu similar to aikido and Brazilian jujitsu, I mean where do you think brazilian jujitsu came from. I see mma guys always downplay aikido and other arts cause in a cage they would win. If trained in the right context almost anything can work.

Everyone has a plan. . .until they get punched in the face.
- Iron Mike, Mike Tyson
Imagine someone being enough fast to get you to the ground.
Yes, if you can punch and if he's not on adrenaline.
So "punsh in the face" is the best plan?
Or what is the message of this?
I don't think "punsh in face" is a good plan
Perhaps the attacker has heavy kicks, or a good takedown...where do you want to punsh then?
I don't think "punsh in face" is wisely
@@Only_God_Is_Allah_SWT Imagine someone being fast enough to defend a takedown
What I find interesting about Aikido is it's almost like a passive-aggressive martial art why you take a sort of passive defensive posture but when you execute the moves you are in a sense being aggressive I like the idea that it's not all kicking and punching but it seems to me that you have to be very patient and remain calm so you can execute the movements rather than give in to the natural urge to strike back.
slow drills lead to reflexive movements in actual combat
@@MasterK9Trainer I would love to get your opinion on this video. ua-cam.com/video/AHhz-T5N5sw/v-deo.html
@@RictorIAG The problem is this was used for self defense in samurai era, not for a fight. If people want to kidnap you, they'd definitely grab your hands instead of just fully punch you. Why they focus on grabing arms? It's to remind you that the enemies can use their katana anytime

I love TMA but lets be honest, UFC 1,2,3 and 4 show you how well they work in a real fight against someone with some fighting skills.

Let’s see that wrist defence vs a double leg takedown
