    I think it’s amazing what you have been able to figure and configure on this radio. For the non tech’s like myself. ….was the 6100 ready for the general public as a workable, “as advertised” radio? I’m thinking I may have misunderstood something. Is this radio more for people who have the ability to problem solve and make software configuration adjustments? I’m kind of kidding, but at this point, not so much. Iv’e been enjoying your channel (even if I don’t understand all of it) and appreciate your abilities. 73 Dave - KD2LMR

      @@mickgatz214 they have released a TON of patches for this radio in the last 2 years. The biggest problem with WiFi/BT is that the case is all metal and inside they are using ceramic antennas. No amount of software is going to make that work well. The new model has plastic end caps and so far the wifi has been good.

      This radio is a lot of fun to play with - platform for software tinkering... as a basic QRP field radio, it works really well with its large screen/waterfall, built in tuner and 10w on battery power. I've used it quite a bit in the last 2 years.
      All that being said, its not 'the best' at anything in particular. A very weird device.

    Assuming availability of internal connectors. I'm thinking machined slots in the case, with a matching 3D printed plug. Then you could place wifi/bluetooth antennas there. Might be worth putting the wifi radio into AP mode and hosting a network from the radio instead of trying to connect to one, that would hopefully get over the strength issues given that you'd be closer. I haven't read the spec so I don't know for certain but I think wifi has a higher output power than Bluetooth so it might be able to "defeat" the faraday cadge effect slightly better at close range.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  2 роки тому +1

      Could be. I don't think it would be hard to mount a better antenna on it.

    • @Randrew
      @Randrew 2 роки тому

      The -66 to -63 dB RSSI shown before and after going to "shore power" should have been (just) adequate for a Wifi connection. I'd lean toward power being the issue.
      But speaking of power... I'd not be surprised if Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections would glitch out when actually transmitting - like a ham - from the radio. They *could* have designed and built it to avoid cross-interference, but I wouldn't count on it.
