They are not that much different - there are some basic differences, one difference is in the Soto sect you meditate with your eyes open, in the Rinzai sect you meditate with your eyes closed. You/I what listens, on the mind and the body. You/I is what one consider the consciousness. For the self does not exists, one only delude the mind and the body.

the interprenetation of it is the superego that conceptualize everything, it creates a delay , that's why if you're from NA, it explains the delay
