Cat breeding for deformities: “omg this is so wrong people shouldn’t do this” dog breeding for deformities: “but I love my pugs”
I can assure you there are plenty of dog owners out there that don't like when their dogs can't breathe properly. A lot of it comes from ignorance from people who aren't aware a pug wheezing is practically gasping for breath and think it's just a cute quirk of the breed etc. A lot of short nosed dogs have wonderful temperaments when raised right, which I think feeds into the problem. I personally had thought about getting a Shih Tzu but I'd only consider adopting one or getting one from a specialist breeder (aka one trying to improve the breed's heath) as they have a ton of health problems because of poor breeding.
In the UK we recently had XL Bully breeds banned. So many poor pups had to be put down regardless of their temperaments because already existing bully dogs couldn't find homes before the deadline. The 'adopt don't shop' applies to ALL animals.
yeah thats hypocritical
Seriously. I like the guy breeding French bulldogs to look like they do in old illustrations - with a short but distinct snout. They’re much cuter and able to breathe!

That's what I was thinking. You unsubscribe because of ONE post? It means that you weren't a big fan of the subreddit to begin with. And for some of them it feels that the OP just couldn't stand that other people can have different opinions...

yeah, and there's ones that are people just being mad that a subreddit is exactly what it says on the tin lmao. some of these are reasonable and you wouldn't expect them to be a certain way beforehand, but of course the animal crossing sub has animal crossing posts in it, pretty much all of animal crossing is on that level of exciting so if that post doesn't interest you none of them will lol. i wonder how many of these people were even in the subs they're complaining about vs how many just went on there to be like "i don't like this subreddit" even though they were never in it to begin with.

Hell, in most cases, you don’t even have to adopt a cat. They'll just come to you off the street, lol.
you don’t adopt cats, cats adopt you
All the cats I have rn have been picked up from being stay, and in 3rd grade I heard a cat outside in my backyard and we saved her, then she had a lot of kittens that we gave to other people (when they were old enough obv)
I don't have street cats but I had lots of wounded birds I got care of as best as I could I don't buy animals I just have some because I could save some if one day I come across an abandoned cat or wounded or whatever reason they'd need help I'd get one breeders are evil and a waste of money and you could do something good instead of supporting bad practice
In mother Russia, you no adopt cat. Cat adopt you!
That's how I've found each and every cat I've had. They come to me
Since no one else is talking about it, I will. That Animal Crossing one was the most stupid and pathetic reason for leaving a subreddit. If you go on the subreddit it’s LITERALLY just a place for people to share their islands and share friendships with one another. If a post about someone being happy that they got a gift from their friend is so annoying that they leave that community, why in the actual f would they join it in the first place 💀 like if you’re sad and miserable, just say that.

cats are all outside cats, the problem, is that they're literally so good at being outside cats that they harm the environment. you don't keep cats inside to protect them, you literally keep them inside to protect the outside from them.
It can be both. In some places (like any US state that has eagles or hawks), there are predators that prey on domestic cats. It's quite sad.
It can definitely be both. My cat is so nervous around strangers she will literally hide *inside* my bedspring if there's a knock at the door. She is *not* about to go outside on her own, because she hasn't ever wished to.
Idk man, my cat runs from the door if you open it, we left the front door open for like 40 minutes when we were moving furniture and she didn’t even try to leave, maybe mine’s broken

Getting an official diagnosis can have genuine negative effects, such as if you want to adopt children. I've had enough mental health professionals ask if I want a referral to get a diagnosis (without me ever mentioning autism) that I'm going to proceed under that belief.
It can also prohibit you from driving

In a few states in the US there's literally a mandatory list that the government gets that a doctor HAS to put you on if you get diagnosed. Had a doctor diagnose me and not actually put it down to prevent that it's insane
Ok, but that doesn't mean you get to claim you have something if you don't know you have it. getting "diagnosed" as trans is debatable since its something you can consider yourself without having the surgery as far as I'm aware. Autism and OCD are medical conditions that need professional opinions to both know of and be considered. If you don't wanna get diagnosed, don't claim the disability or change. :)

As someone with autism: Autism is not good researched so far, especially when it comes to all people who are not typically white cis male. Self-Diagnosis has become a very valid in the autistic community for several reasons, one of them being that often those who self diagnose where never diagnosed as children and now have trouble getting a diagnosis, or it is too expensive since health insurance doesn’t cover it (or doesn’t cover it anymore). I too started as someone self diagnosing before seeking a proper diagnosis which, btw, could have taken SEVERAL YEARS, and I only did it bc I struggled so much , I needed the access to more assistance. Other people might actually hurt their own future when getting a diagnosis. For example can it become basically impossible to adopt children if you were diagnosed with autism, or it can hurt you regarding some insurances when you have an official diagnosis etc. - even driving tests could become more expensive because they might not believe that you are able to drive a car by yourself in a safe way before several more tests beforehand. Not everybody has access to diagnosis options as well. I was lucky I moved to a big city; if I would have lived still with my mom, I would have needed to travel out of state several times for options because diagnosing adults with autism is much harder than kids. And even if someone after a diagnosis says you do not have autism, you still could have it because doctors are still learning, My tests basically showed I also could be not-autistic, because in all the years growing up, I found coping mechanisms to deal with a disability nobody knew I had. My experiences, though, and my memories (written down in neatly 19 pages on word) were enough for the doctor to say despite the other test results, he actually can see that there were clear signs of autism even throughout my childhood. Autism could make it impossible to immigrate to some countries because they are afraid you will cost them money. I’m germany, a guy called Asperger’s literally might a distinction between autistic people who were „too disabled“ to help the nazis and those who weren’t. You can guess where those „too disabled“ ended up. Even today, if you mention even the IDEA that you MIGHT have autism can cost you job opportunities etc. That’s why the post in r/autism got deleted. Literally researching autism and then having an imposter syndrome where you think you might just be acting autistic bc you read so much about it is by now a very common thing about self diagnosing adults who end up actually being autistic. I was one of them. I got diagnosed with 23 years, and I would NEVER have known if someone didnt tell me that they have a diagnosed friend who behaved just like I did. And you know what? The depression I was dealing with etc. - the problems I have been dealing with for years and struggling? They all are the result of not having this diagnosis and struggling and not knowing what is wrong, but following rules so much that people never were bothered by my struggles. Ever since I selfdiagnosed, started researching what would help me - accepting this? It helped me soo much, and improved my mental health by a lot. I also want to mention that the older you get, the more likely it is, that you will get misdiagnosed with something else instead of autism. And such a wrong diagnosis can lead to a whole other bunch of problems. I was misdiagnosed with borderline disorder without any tests, and later, during the autism assessment, it was proven that there is no chance in hell, heaven or earth that I have borderline. I am just autistic, and the doctor in the hospital who gave me the wrong diagnosis due to having no clue about autism called that „discovering myself“ while she told me I can’t have autism. I was proven to be right at the actual diagnosis assessment about two years later.
I was actually just thinking about this, the research is so lacking for symptoms in non cis white men

Exactly that map has never in history been true
1:55 Legitimate breeders that charge 900+ for their puppies do so because of costs that go into breeding the healthiest bloodlines possible because they care about the breed. Such as trying to avoid genetic health problems that are common in some breeds (and to do so both dog parents need DNA checks, health checks etc.), making sure each pup has a good temperament and is desensitised to things like loud noises and of course that they're fed well and have all their shots. etc. and premium dog food/raw meat isn't cheap!
It's okay to buy from breeders over adopting (you should absolutely do the latter where possible though!) just make sure to always do your research and ask breeders lots of questions!
I still prefer it if people adopt though. Why buy a purebred dog from a breeder when you can adopt a dog from a shelter that may or may not be getting put down soon?
@@peterthehedgehog8824 as someone who works with a dog shelter (volunteer work since I'm a student), most dogs in shelters originally come from BYB (backyard breeders) who breed for looks rather than temperament, which means the dogs that are being put down are likely too reactive to be kept as pets because the breeders never raised them with the end goal of them being actual pets in mind. Also, because BYB focus on appearance so much, those dogs also have a LOT of bad genetics that not only can shorten their lives, but also can also result in bad health issues even early on. Yes, shelters do try to train some of the dogs with better temperaments, but I would personally never adopt from a shelter, at least not when it comes to dogs in the shelter I work with. They're mainly pitbulls or mixed with pitbulls in some way, and more than half already have bite records.
Sourcing an ethical breeder is the way to go imo, although if you don't mind the risk of dogs from shelters, absolutely do your research about the breed first as well as get a history from the shelter on the dog you want to adopt. With all the dogs I see these days, it's depressing how poorly bred they are to the point where a lot don't even meet their breed standard anymore.
@@peterthehedgehog8824 I totally understand what you're saying. But the thing is that quite often you don't know much about the animals that are in a shelter (at least in my country).
What is their background, in what type of households did they live, do they have any trauma ot behavioural problems, did they suffer from any health issues in the past, do they like other animals and/or children, so many questions you sometimes don't have the answer to.
Not everybody is ready to gamble by adopting an animal that they will discover later have issues from its past and need specific living conditions and/or special care that the new owners can't provide.
@@MissTwoSetEncyclopedia You are right about that. IMO, if you are going to buy or adopt an animal, you should do your research first on the animal first.
@@peterthehedgehog8824 It entirely depends on one's circumstances and what they're seeking in a pet companion. Personally I'm looking to buy a crossbreed because they tend to be more durable health wise. I want a dog I can train from a pup as I want to raise them as a therapy dog for myself and I don't have a garden, so a puppy would be easier to train with buttons to let me know when they need to go outside. A small dog would be ideal so I can safely carry them down stairs in my building, something that's hard to find in my local shelter as big dogs are more common. I'd worry about the stairs messing up the hips of bigger dogs overtime.
Shelter animals can often come with a lot of issues, they often need time to decompress before they can even begin to trust their new owners. And some may come with medical or behavioural issues even with time and love given to help them adjust. And sometimes a dog already in the home just won't accept another adult dog but may adapt to a puppy. Again, many reasons! :D
I think by "outdoor cats" they probably just meant cats who are allowed to go outdoors sometimes, but still come inaide for food/water/shelter.
Many farm cats are like this, where they spend their days hunting pests like rats/mice throughout the barns and such, then come back in at night.
we got our kitten at like 6-weeks old, because it was on the highway and my mom picked it up.
Btw the cat is happy and healthy as of now! :)
21:32 There IS such thing as an outside cat, I had a female cat. Very hairy, very old. Older than me at the time, and she COULD NOT go inside, whenever I tried to get her to go inside, carry her inside. Feed her cat food inside, she freaks out whenever she is inside.
3:05 Please. As a person with autism, calling people who self diagnose people who fake problems is horribly toxic and gross.

The post got removed because it is excluding real autistic people who maybe can't afford the price for an official diagnosis, or have any other kind of reason that prevents them from getting one.
The assumptions and uneducated commentary on this post are a bit icky to say the least. Please 🙏 look into videos about autism self diagnosis MADE BY AUTISTIC PEOPLE THEMSELVES and hear out how this should be accepted.
People don't use the term lightly like ocd, what does happen is that autistic and non autistic people are gatekeeping and deeming others not autistic enough and won't believe it unless there's a formal paper that proves it. If someone is faking, why admit you don't have a diagnosis, instead of claiming you do? Most often, undiagnosed autistic people will be honest about it because they are being honest about their belief they may be autistic.

Self diagnosis is NOT invalid!! This is 100% true and I agree with you! Who is anyone to tell anyone else they aren't autistic, adhd, etc. etc.!! Some of my friends are undiagnosed but heavily suspected, but they haven't had the time to get a diagnosis because it is a long process and they have soooo many children it's hard to do things right away. Just because you don't know someone doesn't mean they don't have what they say they have. The neurodivergent community should be accepting of EVERYONE who is neurodivergent, and a diagnosis half the time isn't anyone else's business. If you say you are neurodivergent, others should just accept that you are neurodivergent!
Self diagnosis is invalid. It should only be used as a first step. Or if youre unhappy with the diagnosis you got because the treatment isnt working.
But keep lying to yourself, a d*mb*ss lo5er with online access is sure to have a better way of diagnosing a complex issue than a trained professional.

38:17 the thought that we are close to living in a time like the movie Subnartica, where people can pick and choose trait of their lab-conviced children is quite terrifying
My dad has never adopted or bought a cat. The cat he had when I was a child was from a box of kittens that his ex let him chose one from. The cat he has now is the child of a cat that was a kitten when he and his wife bought their house(she came with the house) Unfortunately the mama cat passed away after being stung by a scorpion(at least that's what my dad thinks happened to her)
for the enbian thing, trans-femme and trans-masc enbies do exist (people who feel they don't fit a gender but feel their body should be more feminine/masculine than it is), so you'd have a sapphic (attracted to women) trans-femme enby
21:05 Outdoor cats are pretty common where i live. My outdoor cat basicly only goes inside when she wants to eat lunch, or if it starts raining too badly. She'll be turning 17 in a few weeks. Sadly, that might be her last birthday, so we're planning on throwing a little birthday party for her. Sorry, got off track. Outdoor cats are usually "dull" in color, pee/poo outside their box and randomly surprise attack you from behind. If you live on the countryside (like me) the cats usually stay on property.
I was told by a psychiatrist I'm unlikely to be autistic because I'm too intelligent and keep too much eye contact (something I basically taught myself to do over the course of many many years). Yeah, sometimes an official diagnosis isn't all that and if you weren't diagnosed as a little kid and quickly learned to mask (the reason why the diagnosis rate of girls/women had been/is significantly lower than boys/men), getting a diagnosis as an adult may be extremely difficult or impossible.
When it comes to a self diagnosis of autism, here's the thing. Autism is not like cancer. it is not something where you NEED to see a medical professional to figure it out. Though I do encourage people to at least attempt to get an official diagnosis if you're sure you're autistic because having a diagnosis is the only way you'll get accommodations like prescription medication. However, there are many reasons why self diagnosis is helpful to people. Not everyone can get an official diagnosis. For a long time, it was believed that only boys could be autistic, and because of that many women both children and adults still today receive incorrect diagnosis from doctors such as bipolar when in reality they are on the spectrum. A lot of autistic people who never received a diagnosis can develop self esteem issues and depression from believing that there's something 'wrong' with them. Another reason to have a self diagnosis and avoid an official diagnosis is the sad reality that autistic people are barred from immigrating to certain countries.
Lastly, there is a difference between someone genuinely doing their research and coming to the conclusion that they are on the spectrum because they show many of the symptoms, and someone who is lying for clout. If anyone reading this believes that they may be on the spectrum, I encourage you to do some research, look at credible resources (not autism speaks, they believe in eugenics) and most importantly ask people in the community. The autistic community is and should always be a welcoming, loving environment for everyone on and off the spectrum, especially those looking to learn about themselves and others, whether they're seeking an official diagnosis or not. Fakeclaimers are annoying, but they are not the majority. You are welcome and you are loved, and if you decide to, when you get that official diagnosis, it'll be a day to celebrate. Because you'll be surrounded by people willing to help you every step of the way.
Actually consulted a doctor, was ACTIVELY DISCOURAGED from seeking a diagnosis through him telling me it'll take 3 years at least to get a diagnosis through the public sector and at least 3,000$ in the private sector.
i understand being mad about selfdiagnosing but the healthcare system in america is so bad (idk about internationally), that seeing a psychologist could be a several thousand dollar endeavor, and even with my great insurance and experience with it, its nearly impossible to get an actual diagnosis for most mental conditions. Ultimately being cringe isn't against the law and they're just trying to find themselves.
3:50 In Canada where I live, the system is that you have a primary doctor that you go to see for general checkups and pains and such. THIS doctor, YOUR doctor has to send you to any specialists and/or sign off on special services. There is no way to go directly to a specialist and just pay them for their time, that is literally just not how it works.
My doctor asked me 2 of the most basic questions ever, and said I couldn't be neurodivergent.
My doctor also does not "believe" In IBS... as in Irritable Bowl Syndrome. She calls it "Fussy gut" As if having a gut which is perpetually fussy is not the same as having bowls that are continually irritable because of a whole slue of symptoms...
I think I've earned my self diagnosis fellas. Hate me if I'm wrong.
Yup. If it's not that, it's them saying it'll take 3 years and scare you out of a diagnosis.
Waiting for health insurance to go through so that I can actually go get a proper diagnosis for ADHD that’s not just every ADHD friends and family members saying “yeah you have ADHD” just because I really feel like a diagnosis would be proper.
having the diagnosis is imo stellar compared to "oh yeah you totally have it!" because its concrete now. theres no more doubt about it and it puts a lot of shit into perspective
@@madsfiedler3884 exactly. There’s a difference between relatable traits and a genuine diagnosis.
33:48 I'm genuinely shocked they felt comfortable enough to post something like this. Finding joy in the suffering of parents who've lost a child is deeply unsettling. I don't think they fully grasp how awful it is to laugh at such grief. Children, no matter their age, are not ‘barely human’ or ‘useless’. They represent the future, the next generation that will grow up, contribute to society, and eventually care for older people like them. If seeing parents mourn over the death of their child brings them joy, that's not normal. That's the kind of reaction that people associate with a lack of empathy, which can be, like, very serious. I genuinely hope they consider seeking help, because this isn't the kind of thought process that should be shrugged off.
21:19 thought I should comment on this, but there are some cases where cats are "outdoors cats" in more rural areas, and used as a sort of mouse/rodent deterrent. I wouldn't necessarily recommend solely having an outdoor cat for rural areas because of the wildlife out there, but my cat of 14 years old has done more than ok with the assistance of an outdoor dog. Good video though!
I'm not from the US and grew up in a rural area. It's very confusing to me to see people so upset at the idea of an outdoor cat. Cats living inside is a very modern concept, for the longest time cats lived outside and ate what they chased. Mine would come home to drink water or get some love (we also fed them during winter), but that's it.
And it's not only in the country. I lived in a big city when one of my neighbours left his windows open for his cat to wander around in the park next to our building.
I'm now in a small city, and I regularly see cats in the streets. They're not strays, their owners just let them roam freely and the cats are smart enough to avoid dangers like cars. They only get back home at night or when they're tired of being outside.
So yeah... quite a wild concept to me. I grew up with the idea that cats are supposed to live outdoors, and seeing people being adamant about the opposite is rather funny. 😅
agreed! my cats have all been indoor cats, but in 2 cases thats because the cars there will not stop and go too fast to not hit them (also coyotes and shit). the 3rd does Not like other cats, and right now we live in an area with a fuckton of feral cats who are very sweet but he is Not A Fan, so its better to keep him in unless were taking him for a walk :D
@@MissTwoSetEncyclopedia I think it’s that in the US (don’t know where you live so can’t say), there’s a LOT of damn car travel. So much damn car travel. A 2 hour drive is like, a day trip. Which leads to our dumbass cats getting run over because they go ‘Haur Haur, big open concrete with loud scary metal machines? PERFECT PLACE TO LAY DOWN’
I generally don’t let my cats outside. When I was younger, my cat got let outside by accident and was found like a week later dead under our neighbors house. He was mauled by a dog :[. It left a bad taste in my mouth ig
@@tivthetat7067 I'm sorry for your cat... It's true that letting an animal outdoors automatically put it in greater danger than inside. So I understand that, depending on the environment around the house, people may want to protect their pets and decide that it's safer to keep them inside.
But I guess your explanation makes sense. I live in France where we're much less reliant on cars, so it's logical to think that roads are not as big of a danger as in the US.
I live in a very touristic place where there currently are a lot of cars (mostly people on vacation, many foreigners) but since the streets are quite narrow everyone drives slowly. Plus most people, especially the locals like me, do things on foot because it's much more practical (I don't even own a car 😅). And the "big roads" outside of the city aren't that big, so the danger is minimal.
Our cats are outside cats, they go in and out whenever they want. They usually come to eat, drink, just to be inside or just away from bad weather like in the winter (We get a lot of snow here) We let them sleep outside if that's what they want, but at winter time we make sure they sleep inside so they don't have to be outside the whole cold night.
I live in a small town and near big forests, but the only animal that could be a danger to our cats is maybe a fox. Our cats have been taken in from a farm as a kitten expect one that was found in a city. We can't keep our cats inside or else they'll get angry and stuff so it's better if they decide to stay inside rather to force them.

studies have proven that 80-90% of people who self diagnose are correct. Official diagnoses are a privilege that not many can afford to get. Self Diagnosis is NOT watching one or two tik toks and saying you have a thing, it is countless hours, months, and even years worth of research and study.
In the UK, the waiting list for ADHD for children is over 12 YEARS long, and it took 10 years for me to get my autism diagnosis. Its not simply that easy to just talk to your doctor unfortunately
thing is things like ADHD and autism are VERY overlooked in AFAB people. I was ignored many times despite obvious signs for being born female. It's stupid really.
Self diagnosis can be valid tho cos of the high barrier to entry for diagnosis.
I am diagnosed autistic and adhd, and I think there's a lot of undiagnosed folks.
Also, the fact that there's often little reason to get diagnosed except what effectively amounts to 'street cred'. Why would I bother?
FR! also diagnosed and I feel it’s valid because I recognize not everyone has access to that amount of money for a diagnosis. Plus like they’re not “taking away resources” like I’ve heard some people say.
Has to wait over a year for the NHS to diagnose me, and for the entire time there was zero doubt in my mind I was autistic. Then I got diagnosed autistic, in short my self diagnosis was valid af 🙏
No it's not valid. Ever. People mix stuff up all the time. Self diagnosis isn't just somehow more valid because you claim autism.
@@hmnhntrStreet cred? Lol
3:49 I love your videos but I just want to voice some issues on this. I’m autistic and I’ve been diagnosed since I was 9, The reason a lot of people self diagnose In the autism community is because 1. There’s a lot of stigma that comes with autism 2 the diagnosing system is extremely biased if you aren’t a white little boy you have a harder time getting diagnosed I kid you not I’ve been told I can’t have autism because I seem “normal” which is a stupid thing to say and I’ve heard stories of autistic woman especially if they weren’t white being diagnosed with bipolar instead of autism because of this 3 there’s countries out there that can deny visas to autistic people like New Zealand and Australia 4 they can’t afforded it in some places the diagnoses process cost money that I mean a lot of money and you have to do multiple sessions to get properly diagnosed so some people can’t afford this 4 some people don’t feel the need to get diagnosed getting diagnosed is a hard process and sometimes people just feel like they don’t need to be diagnosed. They have themselves figured out already . So as long as you do proper research for years and you talk to other autistic and neurodivergent people and doctors it’s fine to self diagnose. I’m not denying the fact that there are people who do fake this however, most of the time is not the case and I’m kind of sick of seeing this self diagnose autistic. People aren’t taking any resources away from other autistic people. They’re just trying to acknowledge who they are. This isn’t a attack on you remember I love your videos and your really funny but just going to the doctor can’t really solve the issue sometimes
(I’m not talking about anything else but autism here tho not)
on the topic of self-diagnosis, I do respect self-diagnosis, because its the way to start down the road of getting the help they need. I self-diagnosed with a couple things then actually was able to go get checked out and got a proper diagnosis, but still stuck without other diagnoses because I do not have the money to continue down that road
Edit for clarification: I do think that if one does self diagnose they should try to look for a true diagnosis and not try to discredit anybody else for not having the same symptoms or to try and diagnose other people, but I am totally fine with them being in spaces that make them feel safe, as long as theyre not making others feel unsafe
Adopting animals is almost always right (only wrong if you can't care for the animal) I was lucky enough to find a black kitten at a vet, I asked why it was there and turns out they found the cat IN THE WALL by itself. I fell in love with this little dude and I named him shota, he a big boy now ❤❤
I never got tested for misophonia (I forgot how to spell it) but I think I have it. Does it make me a bad person to say I do? I read the self diagnose one so now I'm unsure if I should live my life in hell without knowing or live my life knowing I wasn't wrong and I'm not just sensitive. (My dad who has it said I probably have it) it would be hard to get tested because my family will probably not bring me.
a minority of people just like gatekeeping anything and everything. it's not a you problem, it's a them problem. the vast majority of people don't care if you were professionally diagnosed or self diagnosed. it might help you if you can get a professional diagnosis, but if you can't then others who experience the same thing may have tips that can help you. that's the extent of self diagnosis, anyway; giving yourself an easier time.
i think it's just people getting "i want closure on why am i so different to 99% of the people i meet, and ___ is likely the reason why" and "i want to be diagnosed with ____" and Adequate amount research using modern medically backed information and self comparison to other folks who have the disorder you think you made have and "so i took a buzzfeed quiz, a 'put a finger down - ____ edition" mixed up
The problem i have with it is that people that people immediately need to attach a medical diagnosis to symptoms.
Then proceeds to spread their personal experiences as if they are fact
You can just say, "i am sensitive to surtain noises and textures" and people will understand.
Also people tend overestimate the quality of their research ( conformation bias)
@@chantelljordan3670i mean, yes, people who do that exist, but you can't really say whether that's a majority of people who self-diagnose or a minority. at least based on other things where something similar to self-diagnosis is common, i would guess that most people who self-diagnose do enough research. and regardless of how many people who self-diagnose do enough research, the people you're actually talking about and annoyed about are the people who *knowingly* fake their diagnosis and use it to get views/likes/whatever on social media, which is a very loud minority, but it's a minority.
@@chantelljordan3670plus there's also obviously the question of whether that's even bad in any way. usually it's good to try things and see if they make sense. if they don't, you find out you were wrong, and that's ok. if they do, anyone i've ever heard of would try their best to get a diagnosis by a medical professional, unless there is a reason not to (e.g. discrimination), and if there's a reason not to, then it's good that they don't.
As someone who hasn't been subbed to any Reddit ever, this is interesting
The Mildly interesting one was actually against the rules, it did have backstory, not just context, it could've been phrased "Mushrooms look like styrofoam from afar"
13:30 yeah no... this is just setting us backwards like 50 years 😬
I mean, it happened because they were getting spammed with hate and death threats from white nationalists, and the mods couldn't keep up with the deluge. It's not an elegant solution, but if you're trying to limit hate speech in a subreddit, making it so that only the group that is victim to the hate speech can post will definitely get the job done.
I most likely have ADHD because of family history with it and I have a lot of the symptoms. Unfortunately my healthcare doesn't cover therapy or psychology or any of that, so I'm kind of left guessing. That post about undiagnosed ADHD and Autism just kind of pisses me off.
(Sorry about the semi-strong language, but anyone who knows me even a little will tell you I definitely have ADHD and Autism)
21:15 TLDR: Outside cats won’t always be feral, but they tend to not live as long or be as close.
I had outside cats before. I lived in a rural area and both of my parents grew up in farm environments, where animals were often treated as furry/feathered workers. We left food out for them, made sure they had clean water, and they slept on an old couch we moved into our shed. However, the cats were antisocial to everyone but me and my little brother, as we were the ones that paid attention to them. They weren’t violent, but then again they were indoor/outdoor cats until one peed in a basket of clean laundry (the cat in question was 2 years old and litterbox trained).
About six months after they were put outside, they all disappeared without a trace. Usually one per week or so until the last 3 vanished (7 cats in the beginning since the main mother was left unspayed). We suspect our neighbors were setting traps for them, but no official answer. They simply vanished, leaving nothing but an empty yard.
"No GMO" Someone seems to have never seen a wild corn. All corn we have today or GMO one way or another.
I'd like to get tested for ADHD and autism, but ADHD testing costs $3000 before my insurance, $1400 after. Then I'd have to wait a year and go to a different therapist to get Autism since my insurance would only cover one test a year. No where local does both. People who just want to use neurodivergeny as clout are gross, but it isn't always possible to get tested, so self-diagnosis is the best we have.
So funny thing about autism ( 3:51). In Oregon High functioning Autism or Aspergers won't be diagnosed unless you hit a spectrum. Those that are either one of the two but don't hit the spectrum are diagnosed with: Sensory Modulation Disorder. Which is a symptom of Autsim.
3:12 people like this do not realize that self diagnosis can ultimately lead to professional diagnosis ( for example, me annoying my mother for YEARS to take me to a psychologist about the probability of having adhd did end up leading to me getting diagnosed with adhd (inattentive type) ) or that not everyone is able to get professional diagnoses due to various factors ( eg. time, finances, being apart of any group deemed second class such as being a woman ).
sometimes people get lucky & are in a place where they can get diagnosed early on, but a lot of the time that unfortunately isn’t the case
Honest question, is there any practical benefit to getting a diagnosis? It doesn't seem like my brother got anything material out of it.
If not, why would I spend *any* time or money doing so?
i literally went to get a diagnosis for autism and despite being told i met the criteria, the examiner literally said "you're a tough case" and straight up misdiagnosed me with 2 different things and told me i was confused about my gender and sexuality (i directly told her i was not at all confused) so atp i dont care if people dont want me to self diagnose, i got someone who was blatantly prejudiced towards me and didnt do their JOB
@@hmnhntrThe main benefit is having zero doubts - not everyone needs it, but having a professional say "yes, you have X" can be very comforting for some people, and help them have the confidence to treat symptoms or adjust to their needs.
Very importantly, not every doctor will treat it equally. This is the biggest reason, beside the wait and cost, self diagnosis is encouraged.
@@Han-G-7 holy hell, my condolences :( hopefully if you want to you get properly diagnosed someday, i’m so sorry that happened to you /gen
@@athrowawayperson9990 i can verify the main benefit is having no doubts - the vindication of knowing that you were *right* is amazing however as you mentioned it’s (?) only really a start
The autism self-diagnosis one is one that I give a lot of leeway on, because it can be difficult and/or costly to get a formal diagnosis. I say this as someone who is still waiting for the diagnosis despite going to my GP (primary care) about 2 years ago. I have had at least 2 pre-screens, including family input on my childhood, meaning they clearly think there's at least enough traits to justify a full assessment. Does the fact that I'm waiting really mean I'm invading someone else's safe space because they were lucky enough to get their assessment already?
I still think the ones who fake it for attention are problematic, but they're easy enough to spot and disprove in most cases
31:02 I don't know what kind of facial expression he wanted to go for there but he looks like a toddler who was just told "No" and is about to start throwing a tantrum.

22:48 Yes, absolutely it is. Then would be Mario & Luigi Bowser's inside story (people also love that one, different Mario RPG series though). If it is considered an RPG I would have Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope next, just a personal opinion this time. Then Paper Mario 64, M&L Superstar Saga, M&L Dream Team, M&L Partners in Time, Mario + Rabbids kingdom battle, Super Mario RPG (There's nothing really bad about it, it's just not really my thing because it's closer to a standard RPG. And when all the others are really good, it has to be almost at the bottom. It would be last, if it wasn't for...)
M&L Paper Jam, the crossover between the two Mario RPGs at a time where the Paper one had stopped being an RPG and the creators were getting tired of M&L. The one with the most potential and the least execution. (People might want to count PM Sticker Star as an RPG. Hot take, but I would place it above Paper Jam just because they at least tried to still make a good game.)
The MrBeast memes about his generosity and whatnot aged like a very sour milk 💀
2:16 "stop supporting people that use other creatures for money"
he really did not think about what he said.
10:31 my best guess as to why this was removed was because the "Mushroom Kingdom" might've been a reference/joke on the mushroom kingdom from the Mario series. Which, if it is, upsets me, because that was a cute way to reference it, and I'm a huge SMB fan, other than that, I cannot understand why it was removed.
The thing about self-diagnosis is that for some it's the only option. I myself suffer from the problem of "living in a country that hates mentally ill and autistic people and uses a different way to diagnose people than everywhere else for some reason". Doctors have been flipping back and forth on my diagnosis for about a decade now, so I've honestly just given up on trying to get the official seal of approval. It truly does not matter to me, I'm not trying to claim any privileges reserved for autistic people or to get into any autistic-specific spaces, which I don't feel like I belong in any way despite my apparently rather obvious autistic symptoms.
So yea, it's anything but black and white.
“I can stand reposts” we know you keep redoing the same posts
As a trans Lesbian I am also disgusted by dude parts, I just never got a choice in the matter
21:15 yes, there are outdoor cats, i have two... they came to our home like 7 years ago begging for food, and yeah they sometimes are inside (when it rains or something) but are most of the time outdoors
2:00 all my cats I've gotten and my fosters have been that young or younger. Not sure if they just saw the age of the kitten and assumed it was from a breeder, or if they had evidence to support that. There are other reasons people get kittens that young. For example, a foster litter I had was 2 weeks old and had been washed out from a storm drain, another I took in had the mama cat with a disease that made it unsafe for her to feed them, etc.
When people diss self diagnosers it hurts me, there is already enough stigma against disabled people with not being believed and having to have a doctors stamp of "yup, you're autistic/narcissist/bpd etc" because doctors can be horrendously pretentious and belittling, like the autism test for under 18s is universally the toddler test, my boyfriend got diagnosed at 17 and he was given a childrens book and told to find the cominality and to make a story with a variety of items, not to mention if you ACTUALLY get a diagnosis for something, you are then banned from certain jobs, moving to different countries and will be eternally infantilised.

Fully agree, adopting is so much kinder towards pets and doesnt encourage more selective breeding like this. I have two shelter cats and they are the nicest cats I've ever met. ADOPT MORE OLDER SHELTER CATS!!
3:47 erm cries in mom not letting me get actual diagnosis because “it’s all in my mind” and that no i totally don’t react stubborn to every unpleasant material i touch
the better argument, of course: do not buy from breeders who specifically breed for deformities that cause the animals to suffer, all so they can get their "aesthetic". DO buy from breeders when you are looking for a specific breed to help with a specific problems, such as shepherd dogs and livestock guardians.
DO adopt if you're not looking for a specific work animal. there are likely hundreds of animals in your local community looking for a home.
I mostly agree about self diagnosis, however not everyone can go to a doctor when they suspect they have a condition. They might not have insurance, or they could be told "you can't possibly have that" for sexist or agist reasons, or they could beg and beg and their parents just refuse to ask a doctor about it. For autism specifically it's enough of a taboo still to have autism that while my brother was diagnosed at 6 and is now 21 and mostly functional in society, I'm 22 got diagnosed at 20 and struggle severely while being told I can't possibly have it as bad as my brother, and my sister is 14 and begging her mom to let her be evaluated. Her mom works in the mental health field and still insists that everything my sister struggles with is from her ADHD despite both older siblings being severely autistic. It's not as simple as "go see a doctor" for everyone, and we should be more accepting of when someone can't get that diagnosis but still strongly believes they are possibly autistic, because it might just come back years later they were and nobody listened to them until they had no choice but to acknowledge it. We shouldn't be self diagnosing, but most of us aren't anyways, we're begging for help because we strongly believe we have a condition that nobody in our personal lives is listening to us about
Biden once said on the Breakfast Club “Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black."
Adopting animals is the best thing you can do for an animal. I adopted my cat from a shelter where he was dropped off with his mom and siblings. Mom and siblings were all adopted out and he was left by himself. He was shy and seemed uninterested in everyone so they went to interact with the more energetic kittens. I held him and he just stared up watching me talk to employees until he fell asleep.
I took him home and he immediately opened up the second he seemed to realize he was away from the shelter. He is the sweetest, most affectionate boy and loves to play and cause chaos and cuddles with me throughout the night every night.
ADOPT.
