  • This is a video I have been looking forward to posting for a long time. My custom Tikka is finished and it is AMAZING! Years of planning/research and lots of money saved and spend went into this rifle. Its everything I hoped it would be. Make sure to stick around to the end because I will be doing a full walk through with everything that makes this hunting rifle awesome.

Absolutely agree with hunting ranges. The closer, the more comfortable I feel. Plus I can just observe the animal’s behavior at 150-200 yds

I did a very similar build using a Proof Research barrel and a McMillan stock, carbon fiber. I believe it was the Game Wardon. I would highly recommend bedding the stock do to the unusual angles of the Tikka action. My gun was already printing .50-.75" groups but after bedding I have shot several groups under .25". I left the factory trigger, factory bottom, using a VX-6HD 3-18-50 with an Area 419 break. Total rig weighs 8.2 lbs. Chambered in 6.5 PRC, the gun was originally a .270 WSM.

Crab Walk I’m really happy with the gun. It turned out great. It’s super accurate. I’m not planning on bedding it. I’ve shot a few groups under 2” at 600 with factory ammo. I just got the new mountain tactical 3 round mag and I really like it. The gun performed great on my first hunt. I just killed a big mule deer at 530. It’s a great gun. Thanks for watching.

You DID do good indeed! BRAVO!!
I'm tempted to do a very similar DIY rifle... Im thinking T3x stainless action, 300WSM, 24" carbon barrel, 1:10 twist, muzzle brake. I was thinking Mcmillan game warden for the stock but that Mesa looks pretty sweet too. My current rifle is a Sako A7 in 300WSM... it weighs 9.5lb and is very nicely balanced... for a muzzle braked magnum 9-10lbs is just about perfect to balance shootability vs ease of carry. Whats holding me back is mostly the fact that my Sako A7 is pretty good... however the factory stock is that squishy soft touch material which is nice to hold but not very stable... im gonna pillar bed it to see if I can enhance POI stability... A mushy stock seems to cause POI to walk around a bit which is annoying.

I’m betting that lightweight combination chambered in 300WM is a real thumper on the shoulder.
I have one of those stupid expensive 300WM. 25-26 lbs of rifle. Big ol muzzle break. Shoot 230 grain VLD.
Less recoil than a 243 firing 90 grains. It is a smooth shooter.
Don’t think I would ever tote it to hunt with.
I got a chance to shoot a family member’s 300WM. Standard hunting config. 6-8 lbs 190gr bullets. Yeah...... Didn’t take long to get that out of my system. Jacked my shoulder up quick.
I’ve always wanted to do a lightweight setup like that for hunting. I’m just too big of a wuss to go that route.
Wanting to do something in 6.5 territory. Probably a simple 260 Remington chamber. (Simple NATO brass will do in a pinch if need be.).
    Nice work! Love that cerakote!

Honestly, I don’t remember all the exacts. I did so much research and called so many people over the course of a year or so parts of it run together. It was a prefit barrel and it’s a 1/8 twist. I don’t remember the shank length but I think it was 2.5”. I believe the channel was 1.13 but I’m not positive. If you are doing a build like this don’t rush. Call the companies and talk to them. Do as much research as you can.

About the bottom metal. Don't they give you like shims so that you can get the tolerance just right for the mags? I've been looking at some and they talk about needing to do that because the metal one doesn't flex like the plastic so the tolerances need to be more perfect for the mags to seat. So they give you shims to get it just right. Did you not get those with yours?

You definitely have to use the go/nogo gauges. But it fit my barrel fit absolutely perfect. However, the difference between the 2 gauges is only 4/1000s of an inch so if you buy a go gauge you can just put a piece of masking tape over the back end of the gauge and it becomes a no go gauge.
