Open Water Chicago is a group of enthusiastic athletes who swim year-round in Lake Michigan. Steve, the founder of the group, started Open Water Chicago in 2007. Out of the hundreds who swim during the summer only a handful take to Chicago’s icy waters during the colder months when temperature regularly drops below 32 degrees.

Yeah but all if you are swimming in water.. that means it is at least 0c or 32f. No Russian water isn't colder all though Russian people are definitely crazier. ;)

We doing it every Sunday close to Chicago
This is my first season doing winter swimming and I'm doing it alone at the concrete walls near the dog beach (north part of Montrose beach).
The issue I am having with that place is the lake is very shallow at the point of entry and I have to walk for like 100 feet just to get deep enough to be able to dive in.
I don't swim, actually. Just bathing without any gear (only swimming shorts).
So... If you could let me know some better place for such activities, a place where I can step into deep spot right away it would be great!

Yeah I knew a seal was always in the water, middle of winter still doing dives. Of course it's only 40s here in VA.

Well, during winter it's like 7:30-8:00 am, which is not that terrible. Plus if the sky is clear it's always very nice to have sun shinning at you when you get out of the lake :) it doesn't add any warmth physically but mentally it is.
