    The injustice that this film didn't get nominated for an Oscar. All of the performances were excellent. I cried my eyes out by the time the movie was over.
    On another note: I think it's impossible to cast anyone as Ric Flair. Nobody says WHOOO!!! around here but the Nature Boy.

    • @LastTorgoInParis
      @LastTorgoInParis 3 місяці тому

      i think the Flair performance was interesting. his behavior was accurate but it just wasnt Ric Flair in his face or voice. He didnt phone it in though, he was really trying. And i hope Effron doesnt get discouraged by not getting much award recognition. He can have a long successful career if he brings this same dedication to his future roles

    good reaction, love your background knowledge and respect for the sport!
    Kevin's sons Marshall and Ross became wrestlers, and interestingly Kerry did also have a family that wasn't in the film. I think he went through a divorce at some point, but he had 2 daughters, one of which went on to professionally wrestle under the name Lacey Von Erich!
    also unfortunately not included in the film was yet ANOTHER Von Erich brother, Chris, who also wrestled and also passed away under similarly tragic circumstances, but reportedly the filmmakers decided another death would be too much for the story and audience... personally I think it's sadder to not include one of them when they were all so close.

    Good catch on MJF. He had a bigger part that was cut down a good bit. He quickly plays “Lance” Von Erich. When David was gone, Mike was struggling and Kerry was recovering from the accident, Fritz found an unknown guy and tried to make him into another Von Erich. MJF played the part in the movie.

    Their deaths hit me, especially Kerry's 😭 The ending scene of the brothers meeting each other in the afterlife was very sweet and rough to get through. Kevin with his kids end scene was so sad but bittersweet. Also I heard that the director told Zac to not cry until the last day of filming, which was the last scene with the kids. You could literally feel that raw emotion. Also the song, "Live That Way Forever" playing in the background was the same song Mike was singing at his first gig, so it hit me even more harder and even through the credits. I was such a sobbing mess in the theater 😂

    After viewing the movie Kevin said that the one thing, he didn't like was how his father Fritz was depicted. He understood from a story perspective that they needed an antagonist of some sort, but Kevin describes his dad as "a decent and honorable man." Now Fritz wasn't a saint by any means, but if Kevin who would have every reason to hate his father for what happened to the family doesn't hate him, I think it says a lot. Either about how forgiving Kevin is or what his father was like.
    Kevin blames mostly the substance and drug abuse more than anything for what happened to his family.

    @FanPops Kevin had no input in the film at all. The director made erhe film without consulting him and although Kevin liked the film two things he hated were the way his dad was depicted as a terrible father which is far from the truth, and also the fact his youngest brother Chris also killed himself but was left out the film entirely due to time restraints and the director felt one more death was too just too much for the audience.
    I love the film but u agree with Kevin. His dad loved his boys and was strict but no more so than any other southern father was. In fact if you see the last interview he did shortly before he lost his battle to brain cancer he gets very emotional when talking qbout his boys.
    Jack Jr, David, Mike, Chris and Kerry.

    Kevin did have a title match against Ric Flair where he didn't let go of the Iron Claw and got himself disqualified but it happened way earlier in real life. I think it was the 2nd Parade of Champions event a year or so after Kerry had beaten Ric for the title, and prior to Kerry losing his foot.

    the main thing that Kevin has said he don't like that wasn't true visually and depicted in the movie was the way his Dad was depicted.... the whole depiction of his dad was the personal opinion and viewpoint of the director and Writer of this movie Sean Durkin...where it wasn't a Curse and all of the blame for everything is all on the Father.

    One part at the end messed things up for me. Kevin didn't bring Kerry's dead body into the house and lay him on a table. Who would do that? Also, Mike started wrestling before David died.

  • @systerkeno
    @systerkeno 4 місяці тому

    Very nice reaction. I think it's a good movie on the Von Erichs but it could have been great, if they included Chris and also didn't go with the family's washed version of history, because by all accounts, David died from an OD or a lethal mix. The Von Erichs were also cannabis farmers, and because they were so famous, the police turned a blind eye to that, which essentially gave them a monopoly in the area. Many wrestlers often preferred going to BTW (Big Time Wrestling as was the name pre 1982) and WCCW because they knew they could pick up large quantities without problems. That boosted the finance of the promotion.
    Kerry only wrestled in the WWF between July 1990 and August 1992. He then joined ECW for one match.
    For most of the time Kerry was in WWF, he was so "medicated" that he often didn't know where he was and he often greeted wrestlers 3-12 times before a show, because he forgot he had already seen them that night. He once tied a chair to his boot and walked out to the ring with it, not noticing.
    All the brothers were famous/infamous for their excessive amounts of drugs they did, or at least the effect it had on them. Many wrestlers have spoken about how Kevin was also so high that he was almost unreachable until the match was about to start.
    It's also important to note that Kerry was also part owner together with Kevin between 88-90. David and Kevin were also bookers in the early days of the promotion. Kevin continued as a booker.
    Kevin decided to try to make WCCW compete with WWF, but by that time, the financial situation was worse. Business was going slow, and the word is that the cannabis farming had been put to a stop or at least cut down in size.
    I wish they stayed more true to the story and timelines. They could have added an hour or made it into a mini-series. That would have given them time to really flesh out the story. For example, the storyline that pushed the Von Erichs to the national spotlight is not in the movie.
    However, I love the movie for what it is, and there's some very cool wrestling scenes with nice nostalgia.
    I remember the day I got the news that Kerry had committed suicide. It happened juat weeks after a relative had ended their life. I was only 8 at the time, but I remember it so well.
    The movie and story hits hard for me, as it does to a lot of people who have had many close ones end their life's too soon. With time, unfortunately, the heart grows kinda cold as a response to that.

    Another thing the movie got incorrect. Fritz and a business partner owned 60% of WCCW and Kevin and Kerry owned 40%. It was Fritz and his partner that sold the WCCW to Jerry Jarrett and Kevin was the one who tried to fight the sale.

    The movie certainly alludes to the divorce between Fritz and his wife but doesnt clearly state it, which I find odd. They also omit Fritz's brain cancer, which is a big reason he was such a mess by the late state. The movie also omits all run ins the brothers had with the Law, such as Kerry crashing into a parked cop car and staring down the barrel of a lengthy prison sentence for drug offenses when he died. Everything said, I loved the movie and hope theyll make more like it.

There were alao unofficial defenses made in countries where wrestling wasn't as big but where some promotions might have toured one or two times.

      @@systerkeno You're right. There were even fighters from other countries, such as Japan, who have held the title.

      @@LeviAckerman-cb5ji It was also unofficially defended in sweden too, in an arena with around 300 in the audience, waay back. People had absolutely no idea what pro wrestling was. Many thought they were going to see unsanctioned boxing. But yeah, that belt was defended all over the globe.

    Brain Cancer to answer why their dad was an ass at some points especially late he was even going to kill Kevin " If you had any guts like your brothers you'd kill yourself too" - Fritz to Kevin when he had Kerry's gun on Kevin [ Kevin stated this] Kevin left because in his words" I'm not letting cancer decide whether i live or die" Kevin's biggest gripe about the movie is... they made his dad look mean.. even with all that tragedy he still loved his dad like all the boys.

      yup i heard Kevin say that lots of parent were like this growing up in his time. alot of tough love and push the kids real hard. Happy to see that he isnt defined by his tragedy. Every time i see him interviewed he has a very kind and humble attitude, especially in contrast to many other wrestlers of his generation
