As a 23 year old man and my grandpa was in the airforce and his favorite genre was always old outlaw country and fav artist was willie Nelson. This music hits my heart deeper than most of my favorite music which is rap. The old country really was made by men who were outlaws with huge hearts and spirits.
❤❤Harlan Howard's biggest.hit.Second.was Pick Me Up On Your Way Down..Best selling record for Ray Price. Both songwriter and singer deserve recognition.❤
Here in South Africa we had a country singer by the name of Charles Jacobi's who also recorded this song. I used to sing it along with him from an LP. Still have the record. He and Jim Reeves were my favorites for very long.
I saw this video several years ago,and for the life of me i could not remember either the song or the singers name. Suddenly out of the blue this morning while buttering my toast it came into my head. I have been searching and hoping to find it for such a long time,as i remember thinking what a beautiful and uplifting performance this was. I wasnt even thinking about it at all when i got the flash back. Sometimes even my pretty mediocre brain can surprise me. I am so pleased to have finally found it.
I'm as big a Ray Price fan as anyone I suppose, but my personal preference is his hard, honky tonk sound with steel guitar and fiddles..... not strings. This particular video, with the string arrangement, was unusual for Price at this point in his great career, and gave a glimpse of what was to come later during the mid and late 60s for him. R. I. P. RAY 🇨🇱 PRICE And The Cherokee Cowboys 🎻🎸
I not only adore Ray Price and his fabulous voice, but I adore this backup singer...he's just so cute. I don't know if he's the actual backup singer on the studio record though as he is not the man I usually see backing up Ray Price on the other videos of his songs. I sure wish I could find a video biography of Ray Price on UA-cam. I did enjoy what you wrote about him though. Thanks!
I've watched this several times over the past few years. Thank you. This is the only version I've come across that has string arrangement (nice). Who is that feller singing harmony?
RAY WAS ONE THE GREAT COUNTRY SINGERS WE DONT HAVE COUNTRY LIKE THIS IN2024❤
Now that's
Country music
God bless
You my
Friend 😊
This is when country singers didn’t all sound the same unlike now.
Real country music is still alive, they just don’t play it on mainstream radio.
And there were no auto tune filters that digitally correct for being sharp or flat.
I have listened to Ray since I was 18 and now am 82 and he is just as good as always.
Ray was the rage in the best years of real country music.

Even as a kid when I kind of hated country music ( I don't now!!) I loved this song.
Could this man sing!!! I loved his songs! RIP Ray.........
Back when country music was county music. I remember hearing all these greats when I was a kid,
The great 50s and 60s!

The steel guitar really changes the feel of the song
That might be Buddy Emmons, he was in the Cherokee Cowboys for quite a while.

This has always been a favorite song of mine. Ray Price, Faron Young & Billy Walker are my #1 favorite male Country singers.

I love Ray's voice so much, but aside from that, he's adorable.
A classic!!!
He's voice is so crisp to listen to, rip Ray

It pains me that I missed this era.

The harmony singer is Ray Sanders!
Thank you!
My all time favorite Male country singer. I wish him and Tammy Wynette would have sung together.
He sounds better in this live version than he does in another video which was a studio recording. less yodelling in this :)
