One new thing I’ve noticed over the years: there is almost *no DJ booth anymore in a lot of these venues. Crowd is RIGHT there, right next to the DJs.
it's cool in some ways but I prefer the crowd to be engaged with the music and the dancefloor itself rather than all facing a performer. That, and the popularity contest of 'i get to be up there with the DJs' which i've never been a fan of.

That’s how the crowd listens to the likes of MaW in SA, been like that for years. Head bopping, crowd cheering/clapping and some even crying a few will dance . We dance to other genres but this we appreciate differently

@broad405 I think some young people confuse dancing with jumping up and down and screaming.. MAW take you on a journey, they used to play 8 or 9 hours at a time.
I just watched every episode from this boiler room and it's like this for every dj pretty much.
In America for example for a long time they didn't even face the dj...people appreciate music differently.
MAW are incomparable in house music.
I get it though...15 years olds who have never been to a club prefer James Hype.
There isn't a genre of dance really that these 2 haven't inspired.

It's terrible, it's lazy and it leads to no warm up.
Hour each, same set in the same order, its more like a routine than djing.
I'm from scotland and I've seen masters at work in glasgow and I seen them at a weekender in England, I love hardcore/jungle/dnb/techno of its good its good

@@deanhaynes3136 I don't have a problem with afrobeats but I barely hear that. They've just been over polluting their channel with techno and other genres I absolutely care nothing about. I won't say it's trash because everyone has their own music taste but it's something I don't care for.
