I'd be honored if some Talking Heads & Lumineers fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of THIS MUST BE THE PLACE (re-interpreted as a ballad) on my YT channel in tribute to one of the most unique & iconic bands of the late 70s/early 80s era. Raw acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace.
The lyrics are so powerful that whoever sings it makes it their own. For every cover I listen to I learn so much more about the meaning of the song. It is crazy to say one is better or worse than the other as it depends on the mood and what you need to hear at that moment.
The talking heads have said that this song is about nothing thats why its called naive melody david byrne has said that the words just sound good togteher and people will listen to that
Yep. Deffo one of the greatest ever love songs. It's one of the only love songs that isn't super codependent, obsessive, weird etc. It's sweet, gentle, tender, etc and doesn't feel creepy.
I think this is what a cover should be . If you wanted to hear something like the original than listen to the original . They took this song and made it their own putting their own style to it .
Alex Gomez The problem with the song is, although absurdly complex, rather simple when stripped down. So although they ‘did it in there own style’ they basically took everything out the beauty of the original and made it rather boring. If you want to hear what a cover should sound like listen to The Big Pink’s Beyoncé cover.
Isn't it beautiful how different renditions of songs can be made and you either like them or you don't you know right away and this one I really had to listen to a second time and then I loved it!! It just proves how multifaceted things are even though we usually only see one side like we usually only get hit with one way a song sounds. It's the soundtrack to our lives people!!
Listened to the original straight afterwards to clean the slate. The original is for a warm Spring day, lilos are involved somewhere. This version is the song you untick on your iTunes list after a while. Tears are involved somewhere.
This lot is certainly earnest and pretty, and I would be interested if this the only version out there. Given all that, I just do not see the point of foregoing the bass.
hey guys my mom recently got married again and this was her wedding song, not this exact cover but it was a cover by the lumineers (a lot better) and it makes me cry listening to it because she finally found her person after i had to see my dad abuse her for 12 years. that's just what this song means to me idk if you care but there you go
The brilliant aspect of this song is how many different ways it can and has been interpreted, at least somewhat successfully. If you troll UA-cam for covers of it you'll see its been redone to fit just about every genre there is and ... it always comes off at least passable. Its a really difficult song to mess up. THAT is the mark of a great song and great writing. Hats off to DByrne for creating this classic and kudos to the Lumineers for putting yet another unique spin on it. My personal fave version is DB's own solo effort while on Jools.
I saw them in concert last night and they are all incredibly talented and put on a great show. This cover is really good, people are overreacting. Wesley is great.
I love the original, it is one of those all time best tunes that you make diplomatic deals, with aliens from outer space, with.... But this beautiful version makes it a whole new song. Bravo
Yeah, lots of people are saying it's terrible and stuff.. I think it's awesome. The point of covering a song is not trying to be better than the original, but simply loving the song and wanting to sing it your own way.
That is a vocal and instrumental masterpiece of a dated, original version, musically. This is firstly an amazing lyrical composition and it hits me right in the feels.
Overall it is clearly a great song if it can transcend genre. It's not an exact cover of the original but still the Lumineers are showing respect with their own touch to a song they must believe is outstanding enough to be covered. It should be appreciated by all that no matter how the song is played it can be an amazing tune.
Growing up in the 80s listening to this song, I really like how you covered it. Cheers to Triple J for this on air format which showcases the talent bands truly have. It's not meant to be some slick, over commercialized performance, quit being so damned critical of art you a-holes. Let's see you do this live!
I love how they made this into their own. I love both Talking Heads and this version. I don't understand why there is so much hate in the comment section. Bloody hell.
Home is where I want to be Pick me up and turn me round I feel numb, burn with a weak heart I guess I must be having fun The less we say about it the better Make it up as we go along Feet on the ground Head in the sky It's ok I know nothing's wrong... nothing Hi yo I got plenty of time Hi yo you got light in your eyes And you're standing here beside me I love the passing of time Never for money Always for love Cover up + say goodnight... say goodnight ... for everyone saying they changed it too much, it's boring, etc... it's a cover. They're an indie/folk band. Of course they changed it up and made it acoustic, it wouldn't be true to them if they had kept the original funk of the song. Personally I think this is a great interpretation of the song.
This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. I’m literally in tears over this. I know this feeling.
Wait till you hear the original 😂
Do yourself a favor and go to talking heads.
Whoever hasn't heard the original, you MUST listen to it. Possibly the best song I've ever heard.
For me it's Glacier by Buckethead.
Sure Sure also does a fantastic cover of this. Highly recommend. I don't want to overhype and say it's better than the original, but ....well, just check it out if you haven't

Have you heard the kishi bashi version of this song? It was on one of the Netflix shows.
Check out Sure Sure’s cover. It’s awesome!
@@BGBGBGBGBGBGhawt not bad at all! check the version I recommended, completely different.
This is one of my favorite songs and they did an amazing cover of it.
Help, I need to sleep but I can't stop listening to live covers by Indie bands.

Glad I wasn't the only one to have done so
Every cover of this song is wonderful. Can't hear this song enough!!!

The lyrics are so powerful that whoever sings it makes it their own. For every cover I listen to I learn so much more about the meaning of the song. It is crazy to say one is better or worse than the other as it depends on the mood and what you need to hear at that moment.
Dirt Baggins Yes a great song deserves to be played and heard!
Dirt Baggins Well said my friend.
The talking heads have said that this song is about nothing thats why its called naive melody david byrne has said that the words just sound good togteher and people will listen to that
Well said, people need to chill out! if you like it great, if not fine....but keep your misery internal
you are so right.
It's still one of the best love songs ever written. It's hard to beat David dancing with the lamp, though.
Yep. Deffo one of the greatest ever love songs. It's one of the only love songs that isn't super codependent, obsessive, weird etc. It's sweet, gentle, tender, etc and doesn't feel creepy.
The Lumineers fail to disappoint. This is just greatness to the ears. Hellz yea!
My fiancé and I just decided last night that this is going to be our first dance at our wedding. It’s just perfect. I love this version.
I used it as my dance with my mom at my wedding. Got a lot of compliments
I hope you had a lovely wedding. This was my first dance song, over 6 years ago
It’s gonna be mine too! I can’t listen to it without tears following whether it’s talking heads or a cover. It fills me with such joy
Anyone who can pull this off is a legend. I was worried, but they not only did a justice but they made it their own
I think this is what a cover should be . If you wanted to hear something like the original than listen to the original . They took this song and made it their own putting their own style to it .
Kishi Bashi did it better.
Alex Gomez ii

playing it slower and less groovy with an acoustic guitar is anything but their own style. That's what literally every one does.
@@locojambo Anyone calling this song absurdly complex cannot be trusted. David Byrne would laugh about this.
This is my #1 favorite song ever and I LOVE their version of it. 💕

When listening to this song, I envision climbing a mountain top, reaching the peak and looking over a valley. Just so beautiful.
I’ve done this. You aren’t wrong with hat feeling. The first time you is a feeling you can explain outside of I did this.

I like to re-watch it though. so knowing when it starts is helpful after I've seen it a few times.
I absolutely love it
Saw this live last Saturday! Words cant describe
where's that irresistable bass line that made the original so hypnotic?
this cover does not do the original justice. then again this is stomp-clap-ballad generic festival indie band making the rounds
anything hypnotic and irresistible is far away from the lumineers
oaks are hating
I don’t think indie folk bands believe in irresistible instrumental work.
No Tina😢
i was so surprised to find out that his voice sounds exactly the same as it does in all of his albums. great vocals.

just "tried" to listen to the original........it was shit. i could make it to the vocals. they actually did this song some justice.
If this song wasn't originally a talking heads song it would be good. but the talking heads version is so groovy and fun and this band just took all of that cool stuff out of it.
