  • I have never run a DCC locomotive on a DC layout. In today's video I will be running Bachmann's DCC Black Widow DCC F7 on my old school Atlas DC layout.
If you like this video you can help keep my hydrated by buying me a Coke Zero at this link: www.buymeacoff...
Thanks for watching and Happy Model Railroading!

Ah, this was very useful to me, as I wasn’t sure if sound value locomotives could be run on regular DC.

Most DCC locomotives will run on DC. Thanks for watching, glad you found it helpful.

I haven't yet! put my setup together, I do like how the train loops around. The train sounds good and the color screen is really cool looking. Keep up the good work with video making.

Yeah, those newer Bachmann products are more like Atlas or Athearn nowadays. Even packaged like an Athearn locomotive now. They have worked quite a bit on the quality of their products over the past ten years or so.

I think we have all had a moment that we look back on and ask "what was I thinking". Lol

I just bought 2 locs. Der Glaskasten, a very tiny little steam engine. And a fleishmann 4130 with a tender.
The tender is powered, the loc itself is not.
They both were converted to dcc. The people i bought them from converted them.
The tiny Glaskasten does run pretty smooth, but i thought it would go faster than it does.
The 4130 runs too slow in my opinion.
I think it has to do with the conversion.
Do you notice a difference between dcc locs and dc locs running on a dc track?
I got a few dc locs that run perfectly fine and fast and strong. But these 2 converted to dcc, they run slow and dont seem to have enough power to pull many carts.
I am thinking of reconverting them back to dc. Since i got a layout for dc, and was not yet planning on switching to dcc.

For the most part I don't see much difference running both on DC track. But by the same token I don't run many of my DCC locomotives on DC.

Bachman makes beautiful trains, time spent big money them , birthday really lacking in the maintenance department, the motors no that's not made very well, about every third one I've ever had ends up on a shelf for looks, especially the Union Pacific overlander Hudson, the steam locomotive chessie system, every one of them ended up on a shelf just for looks because they all had motor problems, and I got tired of fooling with them ! , But the ones with the flywheel in jetpur decent,

Nice locomotive, really like the Black Widow paint scheme. Are you going to move that layout into your basement?

I wish I could. Unfortunately my steps don't allow it to fit.

So I take it that I can run a DCC-equipped locomotive on my DC only layout? I had to pass on a great deal on a DCC locomotive at a model train show..I was under the impression that I can run DCC locomotives on my DC only layout but the seller told me that is not the case..I have to have a DCC controller system to run DCC locos? I run into good deals on used DCC equipped locomotives at train shows, antiques emporiums and the like and have to pass on them because I have a DC only layout. I have a model of an F7 locomotive: Mantua F7A/B combo in Pennsylvania RR '5-stripe/Tuscan Red' livery. That Bachmann Southern Pacific F7 looks real nice (so does their 'Thoroughbred' F7).

DCC can run on a standard DC layout, but you need to make sure that the CV's are set to allow it to run on both. Try rutit on the DC layout first, if it works you are set. If not, check the CV settings.

Too much Electronics. Sound effects and Bell make it toy train ish. On my couple of HO scale layout standard 4 by 8 Irish more than happy did not need complicated wiring. Nor would I have missed sound effect either. Manufacturers should always give you the choice between conventional or a command system. When I hear the sky-high prices of HO scale locomotives as well as three rail Lionel engines I have no doubt all the complicated Electronics contribute to the exorbitant prices.

I much prefer the realism that modern electronics brings to model railroading along with the advancements in signaling. A lot of modelers like the realism that is available today. Of course, to each his own!

Adjusted for inflation the "complicated electronics" locos are the same price as locos of the past except you get more far more features thus you get more for your money.

@@OriginalBongoliath since the 1970s prices for everything have gone up 10 times and wages have gone up four times there for you actually have to work two and a half times harder to get the same amount of goods that you had to do in the 1970s. The goods that you bought facts and we're also made in America.

you are taking a HUGE risk running ANY DCC Sound Equipped loco (diesel or steam)ANY BRAND on a DC ONLY LAYOUT!! TRUST ME … THERE’S NO CV “DCC/DC BOTH) setting as you suggested there is. I HAD a brand new BACHMANN “BNSF” DCC SOUND EQUIPPED diesel put on an MRC 1370 DC CONTROLLER layout .. within 30-60 seconds .. the Decoder burned out!
