Monster High G3 is HERE! I was contemplating wether I wanted to upload this on my birthday or not (my bday is tomorrow October 16th!) but I decided y'all have waited long enough lol. Share with me all your thoughts on MH G3! Do you prefer the prototypes or end product? How do you feel about the new animated series? Excited to hear all your thoughts!

I feel like they should have kept Toralei's hard childhood backstory. With the economic effects in recent times, I think kids would have appreciated seeing a character with her old backstory. It seems like a step back to make the mean character come from a rich family
100% I'm so disappointed by how watered down so many of these characters are compared to the originals, including Toralei. It feels like they've (Clawdeen more than anyone) has been stripped of so much of what made them special. No accents, no in depth and diverse backstories, no unique and well developed personalities with character traits derived from said personalities; overall no genuine, meaningful diversity. Frankie being NB is the only positive change to the characters that seem to have come from this.
I feel like the obvious lack of different and unique personalities and backgrounds significantly undermines the original message of monster high: Different can be beautiful and isn't a reason to not get along. It hurts how far Matell has moved away from the original heart of what made these stories special
It's a stereotype but let's not pretend that a lot of rich people aren't making life worse for everyone else.
I agree, and the rich mean girl role is already filled by Cleo anyways
except by the fact that most of the mean ppl we meet in school and life in general are rich and privileged 🤷🏼♂️
@@MrLuisergiox speak for yourself, I went to school in a poor area in the uk. No one there was rich but we still had plenty of mean girls/boys. Acting like schools with poor kids be like Disney moves 😂.
Honestly, Frankie’s gender identity is the LEAST confusing/strange part of all of the changes that they made. Personally, I feel like it would’ve been way less confusing or “upsetting” to fans of G1 if G3 characters were just totally new or simply related to the G1 characters in some way instead of reinventing already established backstories and origins.
I’m personally not a fan of the changes to Clawdeen’s personality and characteristics. They completely neutered her of anything that makes her unique imo, and she just seems like a watered down version of what Frankie already is.
Overall, while I’ll probably always prefer G1, I’m optimistic to improvements to the quality of the fashions and media of G3.
I agree Clawdeen was an amazing character full of fierce personality and a sense for fashion. Now she’s just kinda bland and doesn’t have anything besides hiding her secret
I agree on Clawdeen. She was a strong and powerful person; now she seems just like a little school girl who just isn't the same at all. I think she is cute, but I prefer G1 over her. I liked her personality and she just looked more powerful and confident than now.
I agree about Frankie! They are made of all different body parts from different people of different genders, so it makes sense for them to be non binary! And even if they weren't made of different body parts, I think a non binary doll is a great way to teach kids about the lgbt+ community!

I just wonder how they're going to translate the non-binarity into languages where it's not used.
Lagoona’s origin change kind of hurt me especially since among the (Australian) community she was widely accepted as aboriginal due to her being native to the scarier reef
But ig since she still representing a minority (now in cannon) I can’t be too upset

Honestly for gen 3 there are some parts I don’t enjoy but overall I’m glad Mattel is doing this new gen for newer generations while also catering to us og collectors

They suck. They're so bland, like dry toast. And I mean that purely about their personality and outfits. And that may be because they're placed into a boring world.
As far as their personal aesthetic, I've seen dozens of better designs on Instagram made my amateur fashion designers and doll designers. That's pathetic. I hope Gen 3 flops or improves A LOT.

I haven’t seen anyone else talk about how Draculura isn’t adopted anymore it meant so much to me as an adopted kid I actually really respect and love all the diversity Mattel is trying to represent why couldn’t they keep my girl adopted😢
I just discovered this rabbit hole, but that's really sad they changed that. Given the real life history of Dracula based off a Romania person, and how Romania had a real issue with abandoned orphans--it would have been real fitting for the Vampire themed character to have found success despite her hardships. A lot of those surviving orphans from Romania would have really felt 'seen' with that kind of niche representation.

Honestly wish they'd actually sell the collectors dolls in stores like several rainbow high and omgs. It feels impossible to actually get my hands on them without finding them in person. I was DEVISTATED when the both Pennywise and the Twins were released because there was ZERO chance of getting them without giving into a scalper, which I haven't. We need more actually in stores!
Don’t they do that with Bratz, I don’t see why we can’t have the best of both worlds and Ever After High, Og Dc superhero girls, she-ra and the princesses of power, Marvel Rising Decendants and Mlp g4. Along with other stuff like Powerpuff Girls, Ninja Turtles 2012, Marvel based on the older MCU movies and other cool things from the past in toy shelves
I think the Reel drama set is considered a collectors set, and they're a toysrus exclusive from what I know. Just bought clawdeen in stores last week. They're really nice

Literally! They sell out in minutes and are insanely expensive for the quality!!
While I do encourage for fans to embrace the new gen 3 cause i see all the work they put into it, I'm gonna say I'll stick to Gen 1.
I tried to appeal to it as well as the movie, but Gen 3 doesn't have the same spark as Gen1 had. I know it's just starting, but I grew
to the freaky, chic and fly style and gen 3 is too cute and quirky for my taste. However, I do appreciate the time work and effort
they put into Gen 3 and I hope it grows freaky fabulous. I'm still clinging on to the idea of dimension crossover like Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go.
And that's completely ok! I love G1 but I like to give G3 a chance! And so far, I'm not disappointed!

Same ghoul, love the gen 1 but i don't like the gen 3 and i also don't hate i just don't feel the energy or the same feeling as the gen 1. If you guys like it then it's cool, i don't have a problem with it

And can I just say I’ve also been screaming for the shadow ghouls to be released for the longest time. And yes, when I saw that clip I held that flicker of flame in hope😫. I hope the future surprises us well.
Considering that if you look into werecat mythology, Toralei Stripe is supposed to be a weretiger. Weretigers are from Asian mythology, so they should have made her Asian in my opinion. In fact the word "Tora" is Japanese for tiger.
I was thinking the same thing! I thought Toralei was supposed to be Japanese given her name TORA-lei Stripe is a pun on 'tiger stripe'.
@@Clawdeena9 I do get it. But I think it's supposed to be a pun on the name Lorelei, like T because Tiger, oralei from Lorelei, kind of like other names like Moanica (Monica), Batsy (Betsy), Gooliope (Calliope), Jinafire (Jennifer)

@@kat1064 I mean Dracula is originally from Romanian folklore but they made him and his daughter American so it’s clear the crew for gen3 doesn’t rlly care that much about the character’s original identities🤷♀️
I honestly want Cupid to return. She is probably my favorite despite being pretty much forgotten about. She's literally perfect so no need to change her in this reboot. I also have this headcanon where Toralei is a part of a big family of country singers (playing off her being in a band) and she pretends to be British because she thinks she sounds cooler.
Cupid never made sense to me. She's a god not a monster.

I think they might not add Cupid in only because she was kinda what joined together the Monster High and Ever After High universes and since Ever After High is cancelled it might be weird to add her
Honestly im mostly shocked that draculaura wasnt made japanese with how much of her style is revolved around japanese fashion, (and that there seems to be a high vampire population in japan according to the webbisodes)
European influenced Japanese fashion, because lolita isn't Japanese culture at all, it's just a trend there but it's clearly based on Victorian fashion and the dresses of European royals like Sissi of Austria and Marie Antoinette, as well as French maids. But i get it

I feel the whole message monster high was giving was to be proud about heritage and to be yourself, or as in monster high, “scaritage”. I get the whole, appreciation or different cultures in the real world, but by bringing that into the monster high concept of how different types of monsters are like the different diverse races in the monster high universe. It was super simple as it should be because it’s still a kids show. And I don’t get how suddenly lagoona can go from a Austrailian swimmer to somehow a super stereotypical hispanic girl. Also with the other characters. Its not too late Mattel. We just forget this ever happened and moved on. Just bring back the old design and dolls please.

I said this before, but honestly, I'm so sad Lagoona isn't Australian anymore. Its so rare for Australia to get recognition in the doll world and Australian Lagoona just made sense because in Australia there is a mythological creature/monster called a Bunyip that lives in billabongs and lagoons. It also would have been great for matel to go further into the Bunyip legend as it derives from an aboriginal story, which I feel like would have been great to share with the world (they could have even used dome aboriginal art as inspiration for patterns on the skin! it would have been so cool!!!).
I feel like everything is from the Americas now (aside from a few notable characters), Less global than before.

Why change Lagoons completely. they should have just made a new character instead of changing Lagoona.
I read somewhere that in order for universal to come for your Frankenmonster, they would have to possess three or more of these 5 traits.
1. Neck Bolts
2. Green Skin
3. Protruding forehead
4. Forehead scar
5. Flat top head
Frankie only has TWO of those traits, so theoretically, they COULD have done a green Frankie. Also, you can’t really copyright a single color on its own, just shades of it. That’s why there’s so many green wicked witch of the wests in pop media, despite the original movie version being trademarked by MGM. I think making Frankie blue was more a design choice, to make them look more electric. Frankie's green skin was already a very different shade from the original Frankenstein Monster's, so they probably could've done a Green Frankie without fears of being taken to court by Universal. It's why the reproductions of Frankie can still be green and have neck bolts.
This is really interesting, thank you for sharing! I guess only the MH/Nick team know for sure but i definitely think your theory makes sense! Honestly in person and in certain lighting I can't even tell Frankie is more blue than green. It's not too drastic of a change - though Ghoulia looks more like OG frankies skin color now.

@@rawrbyth it’s still sad though, I can’t name a single good Eastern European character. People still think we’re stuck in communism :(, and Draculaura was kind of the only one. I felt like they see her heritage as disposable when they suddenly changed her whole race and changed her accent. I’m all for a Asian monster, but why erase a Romanian character?

Ill be honest, as a Kiwi, I miss having an Aussi doll since its not often we get acknowledged in dolls or even on some maps 😭 I do think Lagoona looks gorgeous though and I've never heard of a doll from Honduras so Im excited to learn about her and her home!! Im thrilled a major charater (Frankie) is disabled right from the start rather than a side chatacter added on later. Overall, I love all the diversity, I'm glad they went that direction with Frankie and stuck with their disability and nonbinary gender, it makes PERFECT sense for a monster made up of different parts and pieces to be nonbinary, what if they have a boys thigh and a girls arm? Frankie identifies with all their parts and even bionic parts, how is that binary? Pfft
Literally, why didn’t they just make her a cousin and serve changing her from an Ozzy. I loved her accent.
@@Bluejellyy idk 😅 but I tend to think "well, I got to enjoy a character that sounded a little like me for a while, now someone from Honduras and other nearby places can have their turn with a character that is closer to their experience."
@@KiwiJJams I agree, but at the same time that's why you make a new character. Because now you are rebranding an already existing character and essentially giving people from Honduras leftovers.
@@kat1064 I totally see where you're coming from when you put it like that, but I guess they thought it would be easier to completely rewrite a character than to introduce a totally new name along with the new identity (she'd stick out like a sore thumb if she was the only one with a different name.) At the same time, I don't think MH fans would be that difficult about it, MH fans have been very receptive for all kinds of monsters (I think of Scarah Screams in particular -because I'm half Irish, half New Zealander and lived in both places growing up. She was a relatively plain BG character that became a SDCC exclusive, people ADORED her and she got more hype than I expected, pretty surprising imo though I was never too fond of her, the accent was wrong, her hair was too short and her style was 'uninspired Mod fashion' when she could have gone for a whimsygoth aesthetic a la Stevie Nicks).
I reckon they could have pulled off making a whole new character/new name but at the same time, I don't feel like the rewrite is "leftovers" any more than Jane Foster becoming Thor or Jen Walters being a She-Hulk is "leftovers" of the male characters, they're their own character, I see them separately. There's Aussi Lagoona and now there's the new G3 Lagoona, but that's just my take on it, they share a name but... they are two entirely unique characters, but I'll leave it up to people from Hondura's to make a judgement call on whether they feel well represented or not! Everyone has their own take on reboots and legacy characters and so on, I do think it would have been really nice to see G1 and G3 Lagoona be friends (since they're both sea monsters and so wildly different, Lagoona G1 is chill, Lagoona G3 "sharks out", it does feel like a missed opportunity to see these two monsters together which I agree with you, could have been avoided if we got a whole new character AND original G1 Lagoona reboot!) I'm happy to like both of them tbh but I completely understand some are disappointed to see the old Lagoona we used to know is no longer around :)

Honestly I wish Lagoona didn’t change so drastically. I loved the old face molds. I just wanted different body types. I see a lot of people switching the heads for the OG heads on the new bodies and that to me looks better and is what I wanted. I wanted to see real plus size monsters, but I can’t help feeling like body representation is still not there. I love that draculaura is curvy, but they could have gone further. I loved Kala Mer’ri because she was a “plus sized” ghoul, bigger arms, bigger bust, wider hips, and now I’m afraid we’ll never get a fuller figure in the way I feel us plus size girls need representation. Again, why did they make Lagoona pink? Even changing the colors of Twyla’s hands from gray to pink is not something I can get behind. I don’t know how to stress this, but not all girls like pink! I loved the darker colors of the OG. Taking that away takes away a whole group of girls who felt out of place in a barbie world. Frankie’s change (with the exception of her skin tone) doesn’t bother me. Although, why make Ghoulia “Frankenstein green“ and not Frankie… doesn’t sound legit about the color scheme. I’m glad they want to give kids a voice and relatable characters, but then why not make new characters for a new generation, with cameos by the originals? I feel like a lot of representation is actually lost. Like as OG fans, what we related to just doesn’t matter anymore. And that makes me sad. Also can i just point out that werewolves were always human until a full moon. Ugh! Clawdeen use to be so much cooler. If she’s half werewolf and half human than she’s just a werewolf, or she’s more human than werewolf. I can’t with this. 😢😢😢💔💔💔

The final product we got for G3 Frankie is great, but I do wish their colors were more similar to their prototype doll. Pink ended up working out for Lagoona (she just looks more striking with pink skin than the pale blue from her prototype), but in the cases of Frankie and Ghoulia it just seems like they dropped in pink accents for the sake of adding more pink to a girl-focused toyline, when not doing so could've added more interesting variety. Ghoulia especially, she already had reds in G1 and tbh I feel like that would've worked better for her G3 skater/gamer vibe than the magenta they used.
okay one more comment; i wish they would bring back Fangelica VanBat , Venus, Operetta , Wydowna Spider and Rochelle; i'd also like to see Euna introduced, i feel like it would be cool!.

I don't have too big of a problem with the new gen, really my only serious gripe is with Clawdeen. I don't appreciate the personality change, they made her this smart dorky cute character and while that's normally fine it doesn't fit her at all, and I much much MUCH prefer her original fierce, fashionable, confident, powerful personality. They just completely changed her character archetype. Also the fact that they are pushing for her to have a romance with a man. Even if they weren't going to address her being a lesbian they could have at least not completely erased it (which sucks even more when they are pushing for diversity yet got rid of what was already there??). Also less of a problem but (as someone who LOVES witches), I'm not a fan of the draculaura witch storyline? It just doesn't really feel like it fits her character and if they wanted a main witch character I wish they just would've featured Casta or made a new character. Plus the banning of witchcraft does not really make sense in the world.. and makes me feel like they're going to totally get rid of Casta and Spelldon (another lgbt character :/ ).
Clawdeen was never lesbian the creators confirmed they just didn't want her to be boy crazy, I agree with everything else though!
OG Monster High was definitely more for older Gen Z and Millennials where as this new one is more younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha and I think it fits. I started getting way into Monster High when I was 8 or 9 (I'm almost 19 now) and that's the age older Gen Alpha is at rn. I definitely still have some issues with new Monster High but over all I think it's gonna be great for the younger kids just getting into this sort of thing 😊
That actually makes me feel better. I'm old gen Z and forgot that this new monster high isn't for me but for the newer generation and I hope that they can get as much from them as we did.
The only thing I can see that makes gen 1 for older generations is the slang and culture references. While gen 3 feels like a completely different show.
Do you know if there’s a possibility of Ever After High coming back as well? I’ve heard rumors about it and people saying they’re going to be making a live action movie just like the new Monster High, but I don’t know if it’s true. I hope there’s a chance since I loved EAH just as much as I loved MH! I still have all of my dolls, and I have yet to get Spring Unsprung Kitty Cheshire.

For g3 Clawdeen I feel like if they incorporate her learn about her heritage of a being a werewolf into her storyline then maybe she will be more fierce and build a strong personality because she learning more about her werewolf side of her family and learn to embrace her more fierce side of her personality she could explore because she was living in the human world and hiding her werewolf side. It will be a perfect way to have her g3 personality and have her fierce attitude from g1. That my opinion at least.
I fully agree I miss the fierce clawdeen I love and her style changed I actually still like her old style of clothing cause it showed off her fierce personality within clothing
@@frk249 yeah, she is my fav caracther mostly because of how confident and fierce she is. Now it doesn't feel the same but I still hope they make her develop her personality more
Her change was very unnecessary though, honestly making her biracial like that was pretty dumb when they could have used their biracial characters they had. Having a character with confidence like she used to have would have been a good thing.

Frankie being non binary makes so much sense being made from different parts and after hearing about their scientist parents just AH sooo good their change is probably my favorite. Im fine with Draculuras changes honestly love witches but im interested if well get Casta in the show or if shed be just a human. Love dueces snakes getting love with some added flavor. I think Lagoona, and Ghoulia are the only ones who’s changes just sit weird with me. Ghoulia i think will just take time to get use to her talking, but honestly i feel like id be more fine if they just made Lagoona a different character if they were gonna make really heavy changes. But i would so LOVE an episode down the line where they were frantically changing clothes and wore G1 outfits or even some magic thing happens and they meet the G1 ghouls. If anything i went into G3 with an open mind as if it was a whole new thing and i think that was the best way going in the movie had some really good songs (i have spark stuck in my head), and i really love the tone the show is seeming to take i cant wait till it goes onto paramount so i can watch it❣️ to all 5he ghouls out there remember what monster high stands for accepting and understanding change and what makes us all our own unique monsters❣️

I think if they made Frankie Intersex (that way they could have also made a doll body that’s androgynous looking or a mix of the male and female dolls) it made even more sense because their physical body is literally a mismatch of different people of different gender/sex but Nonbinary isn’t that wrong either but if they just made Frankie ‘questioning’ instead of giving them any specific gender like male, female or nonbinary that would also make sense since it’s fits more of the “trying to figure yourself out” kind of thing
I would have loved if they gave them parts from male and female dolls that would have been so nice to see. I think them making Frankie taller was a way to kinda do it but at least Mattel’s heading in a more inclusive direction
@@I_love_musiccc I don’t think they’d accidentally cast 2 non-binary characters to portray and voice Frankie if they didn’t intentionally make Frankie non-binary. Also what merch uses she/her pronouns cause I haven’t seen any yet the back of their doll box & the Amazon description uses they/them

tbh this video totally changed my mind on G3. i really wasn’t into it before, considering i grew up with G1 and hate change - i remember finding the original MH website before the dolls and webseries were even out yet! but now i think they’re adorable and look up to picking up a few of my own. i’m actually pretty excited to see what mattel is going to do with the brand in the future, it seems like they’re actually putting a lot of love and care into making new dolls that have some of the spirit of the old ones.

I wasn't thrilled the past couple months about the new gen but as I got to learn about it and kind of seperate Gen 1 and Gen 3 in my mind I could get into it more. It really helps knowing that Gen 1 isn't gone and that they still acknowledge it, because it doesnt feel like G3 replaces Gen 1 in the G2 did.

I’m Afro-Latina but wish they made Clawdeen darker and not mixed. We always get written off as mixed and the only exception I have is the Owl House. Afro-Latino culture is filled with colorism and making all Afrolatino characters either light skinned or mixed, it’s perpetrating a real issue.
seeing as they are striving to have more positive representation in the reboot, i REALLY hope they do something nice with abbey for better slavic rep! there's hardly any positove slavic representation in media & abbey herself was leaning heavily into stereotypes, so it would be really wonderful to see her redone in a nicer way ;;
they will not aim for slavic rep because g3 doesn;t want slavic rep. draculaura and abbey are both americans now.
also are you slavic because most slavic people actually didn't mind abbey, and most of the people calling her a stereotype or hating her accent were americans.
@@finland4ever55 i am slavic and i dont hate abbey by any means, i'm just not pretending that her character doesn't rely on stereotypes. at the very least she doesn't talk in third person like half the slavic characters i see in children's media so that's definitely a plus.
in recent times i've become keenly aware of how little slavic representaiton there is in western media and how bad it is when it appears. you get shows that loudly pride themselves on their diversity and treat many cultures with kindness and respect, but then the slavic character walks in as a demeaning stereotype. Ever since i noticed that, it's getting hard not to notice it in almost every single occasion when americans write slavic characters. i'd be hard pressed to think of a slavic character that's not a brute, a spy (or dominatrix in more mature shows) or a servant, or who doesn't talk in third person. god forbid they are anything other than russian as well, of course. russia is the only slavic country after all!
also, if i recall correctly, draculaura was not slavic. her father was roman and her mother was romanian. while romania is culturally similar to neighbouring slavic countries, it is not exactly slavic. it's a country with a very diverse mixed culture (roman, ottoman, hungarian and yes, slavic among others). Dracula himself in the original book is closer to being from hungary than from any slavic country.
besides, in the reboot draculaura is part taiwanese and possibly romanian (not sure if dracula is now her biological father or not) so she's not just 'american now' she is a taiwanese-romanian american. abbey could just as well be american with slavic roots.
I like most of the he new designs for monster high. My main complaint is that there are too many bright colors in every design but It’s not a big deal.
What is a big deal for me though are their personalities. These usually make or break a character for me and heavily influences whether I actually buy a doll or not.
Most of the new personalities for the cast of character feel either shallow/boring (Clawdeen and Deuce) or just not my cup of tea (Frankie and Draculura.
My two favorite characters as of now are Cleo de Nile and Lagoona.
I wasn't a huge fan of Draculara or Frankie but I really like them both in g3

Look, I'm almost 60 (just a few short years to go) and I've been collecting MH since [gasp] 2010 - whilst I am a HUGE fan of G1, I love the new G3 dolls - especially Frankie - they rock. Being Australian getting them is a challenge but that's what the internet is for. I've ordered some of them off Amazon and can't wait for them to get here. I can see where the changes are coming from and I'm there for them, although as an Aussie, Lagoona's change makes me a bit sad as we aren't thick on the ground in the doll world.
I feel like people would've had better reactions to the changes if they weren't with known main characters. What I mean by that is I feel like they should've just created their own characters(since there are a lot of monsters in lore heck they could've made one up) and just ate off of the monster high universe.

I think MH ‘should make “Frankie Steins Bionic Closet” and it’ll be something like the ever after high book play sets, but on the Inside it has All of her prosthetic limbs. And one of them can be a hand and it has a magnetic-string and there will be a small magnet somewhere on the playset where if the hand gets close it will appear like a grappling hook-like hand.
That would be amazing, but who knows if Mattel would go for this.
I honestly hate g3. Once again instead of creating new characters, they decided to butcher beloved characters to pander. I get why they changed Frankie's background a bit along with her green skin and neck bolts, but these aren't even the same characters anymore. And it's not even just cosmetic changes like different hair colors or new clothes, their entire personalities and intrests are different. All of these ideas would of breen great for BRAND NEW CHARACTERS.
Clawdeen is half werewolf and half human even tho a werewolf is already half human lol.

okay, but why did they change Lagoona? She was my favorite. Pink is a stereotypically "girl" color and Australians don't have a lot of representation as it is. It was nice to see that sort of variety. Also, I loved the webbed hands, they were so unique. I get Mattel not wanting to use fish stereotypes (like all are webbed and green or blue), but they could've made other characters to look like that. I would've loved to see a pink Gil, for example. That would've been interesting. A boy pink fish. But Lagoona? I really liked her old look. I'm also more into pastel colors rather than bright or neon, so that also disappointed me a bit. The new Lagoona is beautiful, though...if she wasn't replacing the old Lagoona. You explained Frankie's changes, so that makes sense now, and other than Lagoona and Frankie, I have no objection to the made changes (although I've always liked the old arched bodies). I haven't seen if the bodies still have that same arch because I don't own a G3 doll yet, but I hope they're still similar. Otherwise, it took me a bit to adjust to, but I like the G3 dolls. I just can't get over my problems with Lagoona, which is really sad to me because she was my favorite. In the G3, I think Draculaura is my favorite. Although, I really like Abbey's design. She's another favorite of mine and I almost like her even better now. Looks like she'll have bigger feet. I hope she does.

Jackson and Holt have been treated (/dropped) by Mattel so badly. Jackson was such a great analogy for being mixed and having "passing privilege" as well as him and Holt challenging the "evil alter ego" stereotype. As someone who is mixed race and was struggling with mental health in my childhood, I was able to heavily project and connect to their characters. Honestly they had SO much potential, hell they were CENTRAL to the first major movie, the fact that they weren't even mentioned in Freaky Fusion is a whole crime.
I don't really know if they'll be included in this gen/ever again, but I really think they could be. I mean hell, they're pushing really hard for diversity in this new generation so why not try to use them for positive mental illness representation?? DID still has yet to be portrayed destigmatized AND accurately in any major media to my knowledge.
Sorry this got super long and rambly but Monster High was really important to kids like me back then who didn't fit in for one reason or many, and Jackson and Holt in particular still hold a huge spot in my heart.

Frankies brain being made of parts of brilliant minds tracks since there are a few brilliant minds whose brains are in pieces in museums. (i think it's Albert Einstein's brain slices they have on sliced at the Mütter Museum and he's also in some other museums)
Honestly they could have genuinely catered to g1 fans and g3 fans by making content for both and putting dolls out at the same rate but it feels like they’re leaving those who love g1 for their darker aesthetics and such in the mud while they tote around the new and improved one. I want kids to have monster high but I wish they actually thought about those who can’t afford to buy from resellers that are selling a repro Frankie for $500. I’m really hoping they at least make the characters a bit more likable and put at least a smidge of the old fashions back in.
Okay but making Draculaura an Asian is not okay when originaly she represented Romanian girls. Changing too much their personality like Clawdeen wolf who was our fashion iconic girl is very awkward but it's not the same gen and the same story. Giving to Lagoona BLUE a PINK skin color is just so horrible and make non-sense. I hope that Mattel will continue to sold the old one dolls cause I think that this reboot is too childish and very commercial...

1) Absolutely yes, we still need dolls of the Shadow Ghouls (and dolls of how they looked in the Zomby Ga Ga music video)
2) I personally think that Ghoulia and Deuce should get Haunt Couture dolls next to complete the og core characters
3) I'm personally quite happy with what we got for G3. Though I still want that sunhat Drac to be made (I'm DYING for that gorgeous hat). But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I still absolutely adore the dark vibes of og MH, so I'm glad it's continuing.

I've literally been out here trying to explain to G1 fans the difference between a reboot, a remaster, and a revival. That how reboots don't replicate the past story or continue the story. They are their own thing. This is Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all over again. But, yeah. As a fan of G1, I love this new iteration. Instead of going for a goth aesthetic, it embraces 90's and 80's horror. But, I'm glad you made this vid and didn't just say it's bad because it's not like the original.

“if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” the creators for gen 3 def ignored that saying. This new gen feels watered down and cheap. The changes were unnecessary. What I loved the most about monster high was the lore and stories of each character. They honestly could’ve added gen 3 as a new line for maybe a younger audience, and still sell the ogs in store because now we have to deal with even more scalpers.

I DESPISE Toralei's accent. She literally sounds like Courtly Jester. But the dolls are super cute and I like some of the character changes made. It will never be as iconic as g1 but I'm just really happy we have Monster High back.

I actually like the changes! The more representation, the better! I know most of us miss the “old” ghoul, but I think it’s a good idea. Most kids are insecure and having their doll lines have representation will probably help them!😀

The reason I personally don't agree with it is that they could've made a nonbinary character not changed an existing one. Not EVERYTHING in this world needs to be about inclusivity. ESPECIALLY since it wasn't noninclusive before. These characters aren't even human. What happened to just a fun little show about monsters? I grew up with this and I'm currently pregnant with my daughter. All the changes have been badly upsetting me. It's like they don't care about G1 fans anymore. This is something I badly wanted to share with her. I still want to find a way to but I don't know anymore.
As a queer neurodivergent woman, I think the whole thing would be vastly improved if these were completely new characters. This makes it sound like the existing diverse characters weren’t good enough. Clawdeen was already a dark-skinned lesbian. There are tons of monsters from “non-white” backgrounds like the De Niles, Jinafire, Kiyomi, Marisol, Skelita or Isi, plus the Wolf Pack weren’t the only black-coded characters. I can totally get behind NB monsters or Medusa with a wife, but again, there are other queer-coded characters. Does this whole “monsters hate magic” thing mean we’re still not getting a full design for Casta’s brother/Val’s boyfriend? And they could’ve totally done some kinda Moon Knight thing with Jackson and Holt, but they’ve just been completely screwed over by the reboot (I’m admittedly biased on this point, they’re my favorite).
IDK, it just feels like when brats on Tumblr try to lazily change existing characters’ backgrounds like they’re accessories or personality traits, and the idea that it’s adults with jobs and influence doing this is kinda upsetting.

Do Lagoon's legs only make no sense to me? They are transparent so they probably jelly like, but they don't have any bones in them so Lagoona wouldn't be able to move on land because her legs wouldn't hold her. It might act like fish fins underwater, but it wouldn't be able to move normally on land. And as far as I know, she does not move in a wheelchair.
Pretty sure she’s a reference to an Axolotl! They are amphibious and kind of rubbery/lizard-like. It would explain a lot lol.

The thing about Frankie in particular being non binary representation, is that I've seen lots of people who don't fully understand gender interpret it in a well-intentioned yet misinformed way. People say "they're made up of different parts, it makes sense for them to be non binary" but like... That's not how gender works, it's a social construct separate from body parts, chromosomes, etc. It gives way to the thinking that gender and biological sex are the same (or have to be a little bit, such as intersex people, for someone to identify as non binary). This was something that became clearer overtime to me.

There were a few changes for G3 I was like "huh?" at first but they all passed with time... except for one: Lagoona Blue's pink skin. This vibrant pink clashes with her outfits. I would prefer her doll if she was a lighter pink(and little blue) skin like her Nickelodeon animation series version. It's a a shame because I do like her mermaid-rainbow-style! =/
Anyway, Monster High is back and I intend to enjoy any new release whether it is from G1, G3, dolls or series!

I feel like the only change that makes 100% sense is that Frankie has they/them pronouns-- they are literally a collection of different people. No one ever said that they were only made of female parts.

I honestly like the prototype head shape for Frankie MUCH more than what they ended up with. It has so much more character. Not to mention, it looks more adrogynous, which is very fitting considering they’re nonbinary now.
i actually really like lagoona's look, but i'm disappointed about her rewrite as an aussie. i think if they really wanted to play with her ethnic background, it would have made more sense to make her torres strait islander, maori or pacific islander. when was the last time you heard of a TSI character? viola, a very unique doll on the market and in a culture that has incredibly strong mythological connection to water and water creatures, and you could have still worked in an aussie accent, just a more indigenous one. idk, i'm seeing a reoccurring issue of 'diversity-focused' companies which actually just. focus on the americas and west europe, which isn't actually diversity on a global scale.

I'm a cis female so I am in no place to say if its offensive or not, but imo that makes sense since Frankie is not only made from body parts of different people, but different brain parts that include male and female brains (of which they have MEMORIES)
I'm pretty sure people hate it because
A) It's little more than pandering for the sake of money.
B) They erased some of the characters' ethnicities, accents, backstories, etc in favor of more "conventional" (And by that, I mean "Murican") traits. So it ends up feeling shallow.
People aren't hateful of that, they just dont like how these characters personalities are washed away to blandness

I don't see the inclusivity in G3 besides Frankie not having a gender. granted G1 was in a different time it still showed so much for younger kids who had no place in barbie or anything else. This whole new generation is completely shifted and I think takes away some important factors and I really wish they would have made their kids or new monster high students instead of changing something that already was planted in history, I really hope the show isnt like the movie or I will show younger kids the older version and pretend this never happened 😭
Also is anyone else devastated about Deuces back story, design, and relationship with Cleo? Honestly i hate to say it but maybe they should've created new characters for this or atleast gave them different names. Its so sad that black representation is now dwindling because Mattel wants to be "progressive". Theres literally so much mixed representation.Now we cant even get the designated black friend role anymore. Now we have to be more to get representation.

Lagoona orignally was meant to be the daughter of black lagoon-black lagoon in his film is depicated as being from the amazon so really neither vers of her are accruate as she would be Brazilian(either fully or mixed)
But honestly i actually doubt mattel looked into this fact about black lagoon-at this point it feels like they just made her latina cause brownie points like girl keepet having her nationality change!!

I heard that lots of people HATED Lagoona's design. But I think it looks cute! It's not a bad design, just not for the original character. It's a very sharp turn away from the original concept. It's a good design, but it would be much better for a completely new and original monster
