When I worked at an independent tire dealer, I was fortunate enough to attend a BF Goodrich ride and drive event at Rod Hall's offroad driving school in Nevada. One of the things they showed us is just how much better all-terrains were in almost every situation save for deep mud. All terrains are much more resistant to treadface punctures than mud-terrains because they have much less void areas. Also, all terrains spit out dirt/gravel/mud/snow behind them, whereas mud terrains carry this up and over the tire, depositing it back in front of the tire. Overall result? Mud terrains dig down faster than they repel you forward, causing you to get mired. I used to be a mud terrain fanboy, until that trip. Ever since, I've been an all-terrain guy, and never looked back.

I had a set of Hercules Trail Diggers MT. I'll admit it when I 1st saw them. I just knew they wouldn't last. I do a lot of highway driving. I had them for 4 years. I only put 62K on them. They went WITH the Jeep when I sold it. They had a good 10k left. They were some bad ass tires!!!
Its like an illustration of annoying presenter techniques. Makes it hard to follow his message. Almost as bad as those guys who keep waiving their hands in front of the lense.
I'll definitely be sticking with my ko2's. 2 years and 20k+ miles and I still have 7/32. They're ok when it does get muddy here in Arizona, but in the dry dirt, rocks, wet roads and snow they're fantastic. I always reccomend them to people.
Good honest review. I might only use my 4x4 for 5% off road but, when I go off road at least I know my car is safe to tackle anything I want to throw at it. So all terrains might go double the distance but when they let you down that one time, you’ll hate yourself for putting them on..
I have the all terrains on my Tacoma and they are great most of the time but when you hit any kind of mud they turn into a slick. Hence now I’m getting a winch and probably a second set of wheels with bfg mud terrains
Great review, thanks. 35X12.5x15" KM2's on my 2003 HiLux, 98% road work, 60,000 km's and only half worn, quiet as a mouse, can drive past pedestrians without them looking up. Great grip on the highway as with off road. Would certainly buy them again.
I’m running KO2’s on a 2018 VDJ LC76 here in Costa Rica. The KO2’s are amazing as they are very quiet and give loads of traction. I love mud tires but they only last 30,000kms here with the heat and moisture.
I own 2 full size trucks. One has KM2's and the other has the new KO2's. The KO2's are surprisingly good for most conditions and as was stated are much quieter. I think another consideration is tire size. Even though my vehicles are both lifted 4 inches over stock I chose a modest size tire instead of the biggest thing I could fit under the fenders. I recommend the new KO2's in the proper size for the vehicle. Just my 2 cents....
I have a set of KO2 ‘s on my F250 powerstroke and one input I would give is the ko2’s are wonderful in the snow. They are one of the few all-terrain tires that have a snowflake rating and they work great
Put KO2s on my ride. They've done an amazing job on dirt, mud, slippery water crossings, snow, slush, deep soft sand, and all the pavement in between from driving from coast to coast in Canada/US. Next tire is definitely going to be a KO2!
For highway driving and wet tarmac, I use Cooper AT3s, best AT tyre I ve ever used. They performed really well in snow as well. My 80 series Land Cruiser didn't do well on slippery surfaces whilst braking with the KO2s. I have a 200hp boosted diesel and the AT3s grip the road really well. For rock crawling and on mountain tracks, I use KM3. I'd also rate the Cooper STT Pros up there with the KM3s, that's a solid tyre as well. Both perform excellent in mud. Can't go wrong with either.
I have used bf Goodrich for several decades and I wanted to save $ when my diesel truck needed new rubber. I bought copper mud tires and hate them. My jeep also had cooper sst s on them. I still have 50% tread on them but took them off due to terrible driving quality and bought bf ko 2 even though I drive off road on a regular basis.
I use KO2 on Land Cruiser 100. (285/75R16) Tires are very very durable, however they can slip on wet asphalt or behavior on snow is also average. Overall, I am happy with them 🙂
I've had ko2s on my truck for 2 years now going all over alabama and traveling back and forth to central Florida and they still have 30% of tread still left! I will definitely buy them again!
@Rjr J atleast 55,000 if your not going alot of highway back and forth burning rubber you'll probably get more than that to be honest! I just changed them about 3 months ago and I LOVED THEM
@Rjr J honestly brother my trucks on a 6" lift with 35s haha I'm not able to save gas, but they would be great if your looking for an all terrain tire that is a beast!
@@kingofhearts4395 can have serious cracking and you might doubt it from the looks but you will be surprise how the side wall manages intense and deep cracking.. even after leaving one tire flat. Sun of AZ cracked it. I aired it thinking it was gonna be junk.. and it held its air for a few days even though it has nails as well. . That’s why I’m here debasing if I should go with KM3s knowing how really really good the KO2s really are
I got a set of K02 on my 2500 silverado, never been stuck, and haven't been able to hear road noise over wind noise. Gotta say I'm loving them for my HD truck
I love the bfg all terrains, they are incredible tires. BUT, I run a mud tire, because I prefer to know I am going to get through whatever shit I might encounter. the all terrains plug right up immediately. nobody runs off-road tires for the long-life, they want a tire that looks good and will get them through the worst stuff. I ran swampers on my bronco exclusively, and yeah, the +40C pavement summers were torture on them, but, they got me through anything that I ever encountered.
Great review man! I was going to buy the mud terrains for a little off road use but not as much as they’ll be used for driving back and forth to work. Thank you for changing my mind and having me stick with the KO2s
My truck has 40's MAXXIS rubber and they are the same tread as these KM3's, They are awesome in the snow and highway too! I've been rescuing vehicles stuck in snow all over the place!
I had KO2s on my JL and struggled with grip on wet road conditions and felt downright dangerous in heavy rain! Road noise was better than expected but they got increasingly louder after 30k miles! They were excellent while off-roading tho!
Changed my 285/75 16" KO2's to 255/85 16" KM3's in April of this year .. got over 40K on two set's of KO2's .. went to rebalance and rotate my KM3's at 7056 miles they are now 'JUNK' .. they can't be balanced and have humps. I never even got to air them down! I run them at 32 psi and they are mounted on a set of Steelies. I now have to look at a new set of tires .. 7056 miles! Great tire life, eh! My rig is a Ford Explorer Sport 2Dr and weighs 4500 lbs full loaded. No rock crawling or the like .. just over landing.
I do a lot of off-roading but still always pick AT tires that are snow homologated because its so versatile and comfortable anywhere in northern Canada.
The only issue I can think about on KO2's is the wet performance on the blacktop is on sub-par with the counterpart, other than that, all good and I love it.
great advice - I was considering KM3's (because they look awesome) but your advice is clear as to the driving I do so KO2's are more applicable - will be going with that gain
K02 tires up to 30,000 gave me great traction except in muddy rain, I’ve had proper traction even in snow. When tire degradation became an issue the most is while rock crawling as I’ve noticed the side walls become gash with abuse. During most seasons they performed a treat.
My bfs ko2 on my Hilux use it's as my daily driver......has had 70708km or 44000 miles roughly that's 2yrs 9 months in East Africa Kenya never used my spare... I go off-road as much as on tarmac, haul stuff like farm supplies, building supplies ,go on trips, recover stuck cars..... Love love bfs.....wouldn't change it for anything....if only I could show mine or give it to you sir for demonstration..😂😂, they are on there last legs.... Slow punctures and stuff...
Not much call for desert driving here in the UK but I can tell you 100% from first hand experience, in fresh deep snow there ain't much difference between the two but in hard and icy snow, the KO2 is infinitely better. I wouldn't fit muds in the UK in winter because I have seen too many people lose control on them on icy roads. KO2 in a different league. Just my 2p worth.
I am in the northeastern US. I put KO2s on after deciding I wasn't going to do serious rock or mud crawling. Noticeably quieter on pavement. Noticeably better on light snow/ice. Noticeably better acceleration. I had on M/Ts before and logged 20k miles on them on mostly pavement.
I loved this review I personally use km2 on my 4runner, and I love them. I feel that the noise on the road is low, and above all, it has very resistant side walls for dirt, stone and rough roads. My use is 60% pavement and 40% Offroad. I love BF and have only been using BF tires for at least 5 years. Thank you for your honest review. I have a 3400kg HZJ75 Troopy. I go to marocco every time I can. Love the sand. The 315/75/16 km3 are ok for sand but I really didn't like this wide size in loose rocks and wet roads... They just slip. I recently change to 285/75/16 and the steering has improved and highway road driving also of course, but the height loss is an handicap. I was thinking on 285/75/17 (34") or 315/75/16 ko2 cause they're a little narrow than km3. The perfect tire size would be 275/85/16 or even 265/85/16
I've had ko2's on two different vehicles...I did really love them on the road, super smooth drivers. When it comes to off-road I personally really dislike them in the snow and mine chunked out on gravel really easily. Don't spin out in the gravel, you'll leave half of your tire behind. I'm currently running the goodyear duratrac. Super happy with them.
HI am a big fan of the KO2s. Probably fitted 10-12 sets over the years and absolutely love them. Have a set on my 2017 Ford F150 and its going for 78000km with 70% highway and the rest mud and snow driving and it still not close to hit the low level markers.
Best tire ever in my opinion. They came stock on the JK willys wheelers and man did they perform did everything and anything. First willys I had 0-53k miles on those tires. Punctures, nails everything and they still drove
I have the KO2 as a summer tire when it’s dry and use them when it gets really cold and dry snow. But in the times between, when there is a lot of rain and lots of mud in autumn and spring, I use the Cooper Discoverer STT Pros, even when the real offroading is only 20%. When I don‘t use them, I get stuck. The AT is a great tire, but when I have them on and I happen to come across a difficult situation, I have a problem. So half of the year I have to drive the MT‘s on the road a lot too for the offroading in between. But they seem to hold up pretty well, the wear of the tire is very minimal.
I agree.. but here is a problem. I pushed all terrain too far on a power company road and got stuck to the frame. No tree big enough to winch from... i needed a serious tow company and paid 685 to get back to a gravel road...so i am buying the mud tires to avoid another huge tow bill..
I agree about the dura tracs in the winter i put on a set of falken wildpeaks last winter and now I gotta say the wildpeaks out did the duratracs in snow
@@bobbymoore8883 Yes, I've run Duratrac, Cooper STT/Pro, and now Yoko G003 on my LR3 (Disco 3) and the Duratrac was the best in snow by a good bit. Not on rocks or mud certainly, but for snow or more of a daily driver car it's a winner.
@@garnetcampbell4389 Pizza cutters don't cut it out here (Sierras) - they're great for shallow stuff on a road with a solid base, but in the mountains you just sink and high-center. We need max flotation as once the snow gets more than a few feet it might as well be infinite depth. But for a street car/truck it can work.
I'm in a conundrum between my situations. I live in the "city", and most my driving is just around doing errands. But I also have a property on a river where a mud tire is absolutely necessary all year round. I know for a fact, the many times that I've been stuck on the river bottom fields could've been avoided by just tire selection, let alone winch options etc. Given price differences, I'm leaning towards having the KM3s just because the two different types aren't all that much in that area. I've got a second truck with KO2s on it with over 50 thousand miles and they look brand new. However, they cake up just as bad and just as quick as a street tire would out at my property. So what I'm thinking is that I'd rather have what I needed for the conditions at any given time, over mileage longevity because getting out of my truck(s) just to have to use the winch anyway is a no brainer. And yeah, call me a pavement princess or mall crawler all you want, you'll also be calling me to come get you out.
If you _need_ mud terrain sometimes, and it sounds like you do, why are you even debating it? Get the KM3s unless they're entirely not suitable for something else you do.

I'm in a similar situation. I do by far the most ks on tar. But it's driving to jobs where I am off road daily, not always mud, but when it gets at all wet I'm stuck. Im also driving through areas of bush I have just mulched trees out of. So not even on tracks.
I wanted the KO3s for my TRD PRO 4Runner. But had a hard time getting them. So I went with the Copper STT PRO’s. Almost the same tire. No complaints have 13,000 on them and still look new. The trick is tire rotation. I do mine every 5 thousand miles. Especially with knobby tires.
I have a jeep and I drive it off road often! My jeep had cooper sst s on it when I bought it and they had plenty of tread left on them but they drive terribly. I couldn’t wait to put bf Goodrich on my jeep
I drive like 15-25% offroad and i have KM3. they have been quieter than my wranglers AT but they are fairly new. Unfortunately, Florida is either very easy off-road or super muddy. The state is flat and only real obstacle is mud. So i went with Km3 and so far so good. With full lockers the Only time i get stuck is if I bottom out...
I live in the Lake Tahoe basin on the Nevada side that I off road every once a while but mostly on the road. What I have is 6 months of driving on snow packed roads over 7,250 ft passes going to Carson City but also at times driving through 1 1/2 to 2 feet of snow! I found the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain TA 245/70R16 tires works great on my Tacoma four door 4x4 in these conditions. On dry pavement it is actually quieter than my wife's Bridge Stone Dueler's on her SUV. On the trails I do go on, NOT the Rubicon Trail, NO WAY, they do very well with a sure grip even on 25 degree climb. They have only a 40,000 mile life starting with a 15/16 s inch thread deft, but when the thread gets down to 8/32 nds of an inch in the fall, I replace them as not enough for snow. Driving here with what we call invalids, two wheel drive vehicles, on the same road makes for interesting driving in winter which lasts well past the month of May some years.
Very informative. I’m also in the market for a new tire. Currently, the KO2 is on my short list. When the KM3 came out, it made it more of a complicated decision. I guess I’ll be good with the KO2.
@@tomorrowcomestoday1621 loved them initially but just replaced them after a year. They got loud and rough and the rubber was chunking. Went with Yokohama X-AT and love them so far.
Your price has to be very competitive. Most people will spend extra to get the Road Hazard warranty. It definitely comes in handy if you use KM3’s and K02’s how they’re intended. You have to severely lower whatever your price is. People that can afford these tires expect a warranty and free services that you wouldn’t be able to provide.
KO2s were out of stock everywhere last October/November. Purchased KM3s instead and are way better than KM2s I owned 9 years ago. I would buy KM3s again.
so far 20,000 on a set of 35x12.50R18 ko2's on my Jeep JK2D and I love them. 75 percent road / 25 percent off road. zero road noise on the highway and you really can't even tell they are worn yet. I run them at 30psi on road and 9-11 psi off road. since they are over sized for a Jeep 30 psi works best for perfect contact. Heavier vehicles probably need more psi.
bobscratchit I have a set of E load on my Hilux, yes I slid twice with them happened by just tapping the brakes !! When driving on wet pavement you have to be mindful of braking distances. I switched from highway tyres to these ko2 and I noticed that you don’t have as much grip when the road is wet! Now I take it easy when the road is wet, no probs with sliding since
@@chrisg1234fly They're great in rain, a sotory of mine: It was raining and I accidentaly hit a pile of sand that was on the side of the road, I slided so hard that i was almost sideways, and had to do an agressive manouver to recover and not hit a tree, not gonna lie, it grabbed like if it was dry pavement. Great tires overall. (Sorry if my english isn't perfect, not my main)
No brainer to the wise. Only thing to add would be if you have the money, buy a tire for each terrain/weather condition. IE: Spending your time on the tarmac in your commuter in the rainy season, I would not suggest either of these tires. ;)
During your time in the UAE/OMAN and generally the gulf desert, the locals use balloon sand tires. They come commonly in 9.00-16 and 9.00-17 sizes. What's your opinion on them, why are they so popular? are they a good choice?
Had my Ko2s on my Ranger Wildtrak for 10000 miles ,ive just given them thier first rotation, mine is a pavement princess but i do go off road once a week across flat farm land ,i was told they are no good on the road in the wet and too noisey ,i run them at 35psi and the ride is great ,never slid out in the wet and i do driver her hard ,and can only just hear them but as a metal head my music is allway full lol ,absolutely love them ,the fronts are only just loosing a bit of the edge, and everyone that looks at my truck says WOW those tyres ,they are wrapped around Black Rhinos Warloads 😊BFG all the way🤘
Thank you for a great and honest review. I am back and forth on MT vs AT for my Jeep XJ. Honestly I want KM3 MT's but you really pushed me to the K02 AT's. I'm way more concerned about wet traction in rain as I do use this as my daily driver and really don't get enough off road time as I want. Plus saving me about $200 price difference. LOL
Most mileage ive gotten is from bfgoodrich with my 6000 pound dodge ram on 33's. Ive used ALOT of brands. Lots of hills, potholes and sharp turns where i live. Continentals for cars for treadlife.
I live in australia and I do 40% offroad but still use km3s only because got shit ton of mud steep rocks and about 3 inch branches impaling side-walls and its like that all around.
The "A" in the "A/T" part of the Ko2s does some heavy lifting which you failed to mention here. I have them on my Surf for a 100km daily commute over a mountain range in New Zealand which gets black ice and heavy snow in winter. The Ko2s are amazing in snow and ice. They are properly rated "severe snow condition" tyres... and that's on top of all their other qualities.
I do 35% off road here in NZ,but normally that is on steep slippery muddy tracks and deep rutted ground,the ATs are useless to me,but everything with tyres is compromise. Thanks for the vid.
They shouldn't be allowed to put m&s on those, its absolutely suicide. they're off road and dry asphalt and deep snow. not for a country that actually has winter for 3-6 months. packed snow, ice, wet asphalt, evening frost, well most winter conditions the BF A/T's are hopeless. I'm glad you tested the tires like you did. where they belong as you say.
My 2018 Raptor came stock with the K02. I will be going with that tire on my 2020 F 350 Super Duty when the Michelin‘s need replaced. Agreed, the K02 is a great all around tire.....

Have the KM3`s ...not a fan, they`re loud rock magnets. Constantly picking rocks put of the tread, sounds like I`m tap dancing half the time. Fan of the brand, just not this particular tire.
I got the KM3’s and done 50,000kms She’s now got a howl on the highway, but the wear is very good, reckon I will change then after another 15,000kms. Couldn’t agree more about the sand driving, my Defender is a heavy girl and drives the best on sand since the KM3s. Previously had the MTR and it was good but the KM3 would be my next set again
iam in northern Nevada so same type of terrain and find the KM3s have way better traction and ability's to claw in and climb going up loose shale and damp dry lake beds , now these are on a light truck i use mostly for prospecting/camping. i have the KO2s on my wifes 4runner and my ford full size and are a great all around mud snow tire although sketchy feeling in deep sand like at lake lahontan . ive noticed with the KM2s and 3s that they never wear out i think because my toyota truck only weighs 3000 lbs. just my 2 cents on them
@@phoneone1371 I frequent the Comstock and surrounding areas as I live between Nor Cal and Stagecoach, Nv.....I have used KO2 tires on my 4Runner and Ram 1500....Very Good Tires! I just ordered a 2022 Power Wagon and I am going to try out the KM3 even though I do quite a bit of freeway driving...I will rotate and keep them a bit soft on the highway..The only thing I worry about is Ice and water...They might grip well on the go pedal, but I know that slamming on the brakes, the mud terrain tires tend to slip a bit more....It'll just make me take my time.... I am wondering how long the KM3 will last with a 2500 truck compared to a 4Runner....Im sure not as long...I'll be happy with 40000 miles...
Just my 2 cents. I put the ko2s on my ram 3500 and they wore out really fast. I’m assuming it is because they are a softer compound to meet the winter rating combined with the heavier diesel. Great tire other than the quick wear factor for a heavier vehicle. I will not put them on the truck again but would on a SUV or something
I have had 2x sets of KO2's. I live in the wettest part of Australia. I find them no good on the wet blacktop. They just can't spit the water out and I find they aquaplane heaps.
Not in your wildest dreams. We rarely get more than 20k miles out of a set and have chunks missing from them. We stopped using them as the average KO2 lasted 14k miles. Gravel chews these tires like crazy and because they are soft even if they didn’t chunk out no way you’re getting over 40kmiles safely

love them have had the km's for 75000 k. the km2 have done 65000 k's and still on the car now have km3's but have only 1 trip to the high country they are majic. i love pushing them to the limit and always get me home. one complaint could you make them a true 33 every bit helps here in australia

i dont do much offroading but i plan to get the mud tires just for looks. It should help me just in case i get stuck in the mall parking lot.

Old Ko fine in mud with Jeep if you got set with 18/32 depth. They alternated sizes to depth 30.950 15 sucked compared 31

All this. If you want comfort and tire life get a sedan and highway tires. Just my opinion.
Problem is that you're then setting yourself up for 95% poor grip on the roads most travelled, unless you have two sets of tires of course.

I think another consideration is tire size. Even though my vehicles are both lifted 4 inches over stock I chose a modest size tire instead of the biggest thing I could fit under the fenders. I recommend the new KO2's in the proper size for the vehicle. Just my 2 cents....
I have a set of KO2 ‘s on my F250 powerstroke and one input I would give is the ko2’s are wonderful in the snow. They are one of the few all-terrain tires that have a snowflake rating and they work great

i had KO'S in the early days and had no problems and high km wear, now i have the KO2'S and they are a top tire and a long wearing tire
Put KO2s on my ride. They've done an amazing job on dirt, mud, slippery water crossings, snow, slush, deep soft sand, and all the pavement in between from driving from coast to coast in Canada/US. Next tire is definitely going to be a KO2!
For highway driving and wet tarmac, I use Cooper AT3s, best AT tyre I ve ever used. They performed really well in snow as well. My 80 series Land Cruiser didn't do well on slippery surfaces whilst braking with the KO2s. I have a 200hp boosted diesel and the AT3s grip the road really well. For rock crawling and on mountain tracks, I use KM3. I'd also rate the Cooper STT Pros up there with the KM3s, that's a solid tyre as well. Both perform excellent in mud. Can't go wrong with either.
I have used bf Goodrich for several decades and I wanted to save $ when my diesel truck needed new rubber. I bought copper mud tires and hate them. My jeep also had cooper sst s on them. I still have 50% tread on them but took them off due to terrible driving quality and bought bf ko 2 even though I drive off road on a regular basis.
Ko2 I put 80,000 miles on my old set love them now just put a new set on my truck.
I use KO2 on Land Cruiser 100. (285/75R16) Tires are very very durable, however they can slip on wet asphalt or behavior on snow is also average. Overall, I am happy with them 🙂
I've had ko2s on my truck for 2 years now going all over alabama and traveling back and forth to central Florida and they still have 30% of tread still left! I will definitely buy them again!
@Rjr J atleast 55,000 if your not going alot of highway back and forth burning rubber you'll probably get more than that to be honest! I just changed them about 3 months ago and I LOVED THEM

@@kingofhearts4395 can have serious cracking and you might doubt it from the looks but you will be surprise how the side wall manages intense and deep cracking.. even after leaving one tire flat. Sun of AZ cracked it. I aired it thinking it was gonna be junk.. and it held its air for a few days even though it has nails as well. . That’s why I’m here debasing if I should go with KM3s knowing how really really good the KO2s really are
I got a set of K02 on my 2500 silverado, never been stuck, and haven't been able to hear road noise over wind noise. Gotta say I'm loving them for my HD truck
I love the bfg all terrains, they are incredible tires. BUT, I run a mud tire, because I prefer to know I am going to get through whatever shit I might encounter. the all terrains plug right up immediately. nobody runs off-road tires for the long-life, they want a tire that looks good and will get them through the worst stuff. I ran swampers on my bronco exclusively, and yeah, the +40C pavement summers were torture on them, but, they got me through anything that I ever encountered.

My truck has 40's MAXXIS rubber and they are the same tread as these KM3's, They are awesome in the snow and highway too! I've been rescuing vehicles stuck in snow all over the place!
I had KO2s on my JL and struggled with grip on wet road conditions and felt downright dangerous in heavy rain! Road noise was better than expected but they got increasingly louder after 30k miles! They were excellent while off-roading tho!

What psi was you running them
Changed my 285/75 16" KO2's to 255/85 16" KM3's in April of this year .. got over 40K on two set's of KO2's .. went to rebalance and rotate my KM3's at 7056 miles they are now 'JUNK' .. they can't be balanced and have humps. I never even got to air them down! I run them at 32 psi and they are mounted on a set of Steelies. I now have to look at a new set of tires .. 7056 miles! Great tire life, eh! My rig is a Ford Explorer Sport 2Dr and weighs 4500 lbs full loaded. No rock crawling or the like .. just over landing.
I do a lot of off-roading but still always pick AT tires that are snow homologated because its so versatile and comfortable anywhere in northern Canada.
The only issue I can think about on KO2's is the wet performance on the blacktop is on sub-par with the counterpart, other than that, all good and I love it.
great advice - I was considering KM3's (because they look awesome) but your advice is clear as to the driving I do so KO2's are more applicable - will be going with that gain

I run the KO2s and love them to death
K02 tires up to 30,000 gave me great traction except in muddy rain, I’ve had proper traction even in snow. When tire degradation became an issue the most is while rock crawling as I’ve noticed the side walls become gash with abuse. During most seasons they performed a treat.

My bfs ko2 on my Hilux use it's as my daily driver......has had 70708km or 44000 miles roughly that's 2yrs 9 months in East Africa Kenya never used my spare... I go off-road as much as on tarmac, haul stuff like farm supplies, building supplies ,go on trips, recover stuck cars..... Love love bfs.....wouldn't change it for anything....if only I could show mine or give it to you sir for demonstration..😂😂, they are on there last legs.... Slow punctures and stuff...

Not much call for desert driving here in the UK but I can tell you 100% from first hand experience, in fresh deep snow there ain't much difference between the two but in hard and icy snow, the KO2 is infinitely better. I wouldn't fit muds in the UK in winter because I have seen too many people lose control on them on icy roads. KO2 in a different league.

I am in the northeastern US. I put KO2s on after deciding I wasn't going to do serious rock or mud crawling. Noticeably quieter on pavement. Noticeably better on light snow/ice. Noticeably better acceleration. I had on M/Ts before and logged 20k miles on them on mostly pavement.
I loved this review I personally use km2 on my 4runner, and I love them. I feel that the noise on the road is low, and above all, it has very resistant side walls for dirt, stone and rough roads. My use is 60% pavement and 40% Offroad. I love BF and have only been using BF tires for at least 5 years. The 315/75/16 km3 are ok for sand but I really didn't like this wide size in loose rocks and wet roads... They just slip.
I recently change to 285/75/16 and the steering has improved and highway road driving also of course, but the height loss is an handicap. I was thinking on 285/75/17 (34") or 315/75/16 ko2 cause they're a little narrow than km3.
The perfect tire size would be 275/85/16 or even 265/85/16
I've had ko2's on two different vehicles...I did really love them on the road, super smooth drivers. When it comes to off-road I personally really dislike them in the snow and mine chunked out on gravel really easily. Don't spin out in the gravel, you'll leave half of your tire behind. I'm currently running the goodyear duratrac. Super happy with them.
Good all terrain in mud but they don’t preform well in sand
HI am a big fan of the KO2s. Probably fitted 10-12 sets over the years and absolutely love them. Have a set on my 2017 Ford F150 and its going for 78000km with 70% highway and the rest mud and snow driving and it still not close to hit the low level markers.
The BFG KMs were the best designed mud tire I’ve ever owned. Happy they still continue the line with the KM3s but man, those KMs!!
Best tire ever in my opinion. They came stock on the JK willys wheelers and man did they perform did everything and anything. First willys I had 0-53k miles on those tires. Punctures, nails everything and they still drove

I just bought a set of Ko2s for my chevy tahoe z71....they look really good
I have the KO2 as a summer tire when it’s dry and use them when it gets really cold and dry snow. But in the times between, when there is a lot of rain and lots of mud in autumn and spring, I use the Cooper Discoverer STT Pros, even when the real offroading is only 20%. When I don‘t use them, I get stuck. The AT is a great tire, but when I have them on and I happen to come across a difficult situation, I have a problem. So half of the year I have to drive the MT‘s on the road a lot too for the offroading in between. But they seem to hold up pretty well, the wear of the tire is very minimal.

I agree.. but here is a problem. I pushed all terrain too far on a power company road and got stuck to the frame. No tree big enough to winch from... i needed a serious tow company and paid 685 to get back to a gravel road...so i am buying the mud tires to avoid another huge tow bill..
And for snow... Goodyear Duratrac takes the win! I'd love to see a more snow-focused KO2 (especially in a 35x10.5R15 pizza cutter)
I agree about the dura tracs in the winter i put on a set of falken wildpeaks last winter and now I gotta say the wildpeaks out did the duratracs in snow
@@bobbymoore8883 Yes, I've run Duratrac, Cooper STT/Pro, and now Yoko G003 on my LR3 (Disco 3) and the Duratrac was the best in snow by a good bit. Not on rocks or mud certainly, but for snow or more of a daily driver car it's a winner.
Pizza cutter!? I run 235/85R16 on my Super Duty for snow. All that weight on that 9" tread the Michelin LTX M/S work very well on ice and snow.
@@garnetcampbell4389 Pizza cutters don't cut it out here (Sierras) - they're great for shallow stuff on a road with a solid base, but in the mountains you just sink and high-center. We need max flotation as once the snow gets more than a few feet it might as well be infinite depth. But for a street car/truck it can work.
I'm in a conundrum between my situations. I live in the "city", and most my driving is just around doing errands. But I also have a property on a river where a mud tire is absolutely necessary all year round. I know for a fact, the many times that I've been stuck on the river bottom fields could've been avoided by just tire selection, let alone winch options etc. Given price differences, I'm leaning towards having the KM3s just because the two different types aren't all that much in that area. I've got a second truck with KO2s on it with over 50 thousand miles and they look brand new. However, they cake up just as bad and just as quick as a street tire would out at my property.
So what I'm thinking is that I'd rather have what I needed for the conditions at any given time, over mileage longevity because getting out of my truck(s) just to have to use the winch anyway is a no brainer. And yeah, call me a pavement princess or mall crawler all you want, you'll also be calling me to come get you out.
If you _need_ mud terrain sometimes, and it sounds like you do, why are you even debating it? Get the KM3s unless they're entirely not suitable for something else you do.
Have you tried dropping the tyre pressure to get through the mud?
Go For the KM3, sounds like you mileage on tar is minimal at slow speeds. your need for the tyre to perform is when you go to the river.

I'm in a similar situation. I do by far the most ks on tar. But it's driving to jobs where I am off road daily, not always mud, but when it gets at all wet I'm stuck. Im also driving through areas of bush I have just mulched trees out of. So not even on tracks.
I wanted the KO3s for my TRD PRO 4Runner. But had a hard time getting them. So I went with the Copper STT PRO’s. Almost the same tire. No complaints have 13,000 on them and still look new. The trick is tire rotation. I do mine every 5 thousand miles. Especially with knobby tires.

I have a jeep and I drive it off road often! My jeep had cooper sst s on it when I bought it and they had plenty of tread left on them but they drive terribly. I couldn’t wait to put bf Goodrich on my jeep
I drive like 15-25% offroad and i have KM3. they have been quieter than my wranglers AT but they are fairly new. Unfortunately, Florida is either very easy off-road or super muddy. The state is flat and only real obstacle is mud. So i went with Km3 and so far so good. With full lockers the Only time i get stuck is if I bottom out...
I live in the Lake Tahoe basin on the Nevada side that I off road every once a while but mostly on the road. What I have is 6 months of driving on snow packed roads over 7,250 ft passes going to Carson City but also at times driving through 1 1/2 to 2 feet of snow! I found the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain TA 245/70R16 tires works great on my Tacoma four door 4x4 in these conditions. On dry pavement it is actually quieter than my wife's Bridge Stone Dueler's on her SUV. On the trails I do go on, NOT the Rubicon Trail, NO WAY, they do very well with a sure grip even on 25 degree climb. They have only a 40,000 mile life starting with a 15/16 s inch thread deft, but when the thread gets down to 8/32 nds of an inch in the fall, I replace them as not enough for snow. Driving here with what we call invalids, two wheel drive vehicles, on the same road makes for interesting driving in winter which lasts well past the month of May some years.
If you said anything bad. It would not be believed. They wear awesome, perform great, and look great.

Your price has to be very competitive. Most people will spend extra to get the Road Hazard warranty. It definitely comes in handy if you use KM3’s and K02’s how they’re intended. You have to severely lower whatever your price is. People that can afford these tires expect a warranty and free services that you wouldn’t be able to provide.
KO2s were out of stock everywhere last October/November. Purchased KM3s instead and are way better than KM2s I owned 9 years ago. I would buy KM3s again.

so far 20,000 on a set of 35x12.50R18 ko2's on my Jeep JK2D and I love them. 75 percent road / 25 percent off road. zero road noise on the highway and you really can't even tell they are worn yet. I run them at 30psi on road and 9-11 psi off road. since they are over sized for a Jeep 30 psi works best for perfect contact. Heavier vehicles probably need more psi.

bobscratchit I have a set of E load on my Hilux, yes I slid twice with them happened by just tapping the brakes !! When driving on wet pavement you have to be mindful of braking distances. I switched from highway tyres to these ko2 and I noticed that you don’t have as much grip when the road is wet! Now I take it easy when the road is wet, no probs with sliding since
@@chrisg1234fly They're great in rain, a sotory of mine: It was raining and I accidentaly hit a pile of sand that was on the side of the road, I slided so hard that i was almost sideways, and had to do an agressive manouver to recover and not hit a tree, not gonna lie, it grabbed like if it was dry pavement. Great tires overall. (Sorry if my english isn't perfect, not my main)
I loved my KM2's on my 13' tacoma in Colorado. I've also had KO2's and liked them as well.

No brainer to the wise. Only thing to add would be if you have the money, buy a tire for each terrain/weather condition. IE: Spending your time on the tarmac in your commuter in the rainy season, I would not suggest either of these tires. ;)
Ive driven a 2WD 1975 chevy C20 with 305-65-17 KO2's on a rocky Jeep trail with no issues!

During your time in the UAE/OMAN and generally the gulf desert, the locals use balloon sand tires. They come commonly in 9.00-16 and 9.00-17 sizes. What's your opinion on them, why are they so popular? are they a good choice?
Toyo open country MT is were its at did a whole lot of on road driving and got 85,000 miles out of them💯
Had my Ko2s on my Ranger Wildtrak for 10000 miles ,ive just given them thier first rotation, mine is a pavement princess but i do go off road once a week across flat farm land ,i was told they are no good on the road in the wet and too noisey ,i run them at 35psi and the ride is great ,never slid out in the wet and i do driver her hard ,and can only just hear them but as a metal head my music is allway full lol ,absolutely love them ,the fronts are only just loosing a bit of the edge, and everyone that looks at my truck says WOW those tyres ,they are wrapped around Black Rhinos Warloads 😊BFG all the way🤘

Most mileage ive gotten is from bfgoodrich with my 6000 pound dodge ram on 33's. Ive used ALOT of brands. Lots of hills, potholes and sharp turns where i live. Continentals for cars for treadlife.

Living in Alaska, we have snow on the ground 50% of the year normally. I like the BFG KO2s better than MT tires.
I live in australia and I do 40% offroad but still use km3s only because got shit ton of mud steep rocks and about 3 inch branches impaling side-walls and its like that all around.
The "A" in the "A/T" part of the Ko2s does some heavy lifting which you failed to mention here. I have them on my Surf for a 100km daily commute over a mountain range in New Zealand which gets black ice and heavy snow in winter. The Ko2s are amazing in snow and ice. They are properly rated "severe snow condition" tyres... and that's on top of all their other qualities.
I do 35% off road here in NZ,but normally that is on steep slippery muddy tracks and deep rutted ground,the ATs are useless to me,but everything with tyres is compromise.

They shouldn't be allowed to put m&s on those, its absolutely suicide. they're off road and dry asphalt and deep snow. not for a country that actually has winter for 3-6 months. packed snow, ice, wet asphalt, evening frost, well most winter conditions the BF A/T's are hopeless. My 2018 Raptor came stock with the K02. I will be going with that tire on my 2020 F 350 Super Duty when the Michelin‘s need replaced. Agreed, the K02 is a great all around tire.....
I love my KO2s. I do 90% of my driving on the road, but 10% of the time I'm hitting the trails. My KO2s do everything I ask them to do.

Have the KM3`s ...not a fan, they`re loud rock magnets. Constantly picking rocks put of the tread, sounds like I`m tap dancing half the time. Fan of the brand, just not this particular tire.
I got the KM3’s and done 50,000kms She’s now got a howl on the highway, but the wear is very good, reckon I will change then after another 15,000kms.
Couldn’t agree more about the sand driving, my Defender is a heavy girl and drives the best on sand since the KM3s. Previously had the MTR and it was good but the KM3 would be my next set again

iam in northern Nevada so same type of terrain and find the KM3s have way better traction and ability's to claw in and climb going up loose shale and damp dry lake beds , now these are on a light truck i use mostly for prospecting/camping. i have the KO2s on my wifes 4runner and my ford full size and are a great all around mud snow tire although sketchy feeling in deep sand like at lake lahontan . ive noticed with the KM2s and 3s that they never wear out i think because my toyota truck only weighs 3000 lbs. just my 2 cents on them

I just ordered a 2022 Power Wagon and I am going to try out the KM3 even though I do quite a bit of freeway driving...I will rotate and keep them a bit soft on the highway..The only thing I worry about is Ice and water...They might grip well on the go pedal, but I know that slamming on the brakes, the mud terrain tires tend to slip a bit more....It'll just make me take my time.... I am wondering how long the KM3 will last with a 2500 truck compared to a 4Runner....Im sure not as long...I'll be happy with 40000 miles...

Just my 2 cents. I put the ko2s on my ram 3500 and they wore out really fast. I’m assuming it is because they are a softer compound to meet the winter rating combined with the heavier diesel. Great tire other than the quick wear factor for a heavier vehicle. I will not put them on the truck again but would on a SUV or something
I have had 2x sets of KO2's. I live in the wettest part of Australia. I find them no good on the wet blacktop. They just can't spit the water out and I find they aquaplane heaps.
I use the AT’s out near Del Rio, TX. Very rocky and brutal terrain. I have gashes and chunks of tread missing. Never had a flat though.
I put 110k miles on a set of 4 of Ko2, just bought a new set and ready for 100k more miles.
Not in your wildest dreams. We rarely get more than 20k miles out of a set and have chunks missing from them. We stopped using them as the average KO2 lasted 14k miles. Gravel chews these tires like crazy and because they are soft even if they didn’t chunk out no way you’re getting over 40kmiles safely

love them have had the km's for 75000 k. the km2 have done 65000 k's and still on the car now have km3's but have only 1 trip to the high country they are majic. i love pushing them to the limit and always get me home. one complaint could you make them a true 33 every bit helps here in australia
