    Great video mate. With the Anderson plugs I seal the back of them with silicon. And use dielectric grease on terminals. No problems ever . Hope it helps . Keep up your videos . Great job

    Every good tradesperson uses the thin cutting disks to clean up the edges bloke :) We all know it’s wrong but do it anyway. I luv Anderson plugs too but probably would suggest to use MC4 plugs at your panel to stop the rust stain issue they are waterproof and can be disconnected, Anderson on the other end etc. Good job on the install.

    how are they holding up after 2 years? do you get a voltage drop charging it direct to the crank battery?

    • @JebbreysJibberish
      @JebbreysJibberish  Рік тому +1

      I haven’t measured it lately but I changed it back to auxiliary charging so that the voltage sensing switch would flick over once charged. Still runs the 95l all day at work no problem and I plug in while home. The only thing is that the two lead acids are pretty knackered now so if there’s no sun like this kind of weather you really notice it after a day. Deciding if I should go a iTechWorld lithium and replace the two lead acids with a single lithium. I leave the isolator on manual override 99% of the time anyway and never have a starting issue because of the panel. Would save a heap of weight with one 7kg battery instead of two 30kg batteries…. I’d love two lithiums but dang the price.

    Great video. Keep doing what you are doing, having a go and coming up with fit-for-purpose results. If we all waited till we had a perfect plan we would do nothing. 👍

    Just watched your video, when you mentioned the cheap flexy panels, that exact same thing happened to me. I'm now looking at a new panel like my old glass one. It copped a lot of abuse, and still, all good. Great video, fuck the haters. Glad you're happy with the system.

      Cheers man. That panels been up there a couple of years now and has been absolutely awesome. The MPPT regulator is the go though, really makes a massive difference! I’ve gone two glass panels with a projecta MPPT on the van now too. I’ve done a couple of 3 day stints with the diesel heater running all night, 95l fridge and TV and coffee machine of the inverter running on overcast weekends and we’ve managed to scrape through. Bloody love them.

    How well does that MPPT XTM charger goes for ya battery's. I got the $150 one and i get 9ah into my battery. this is also running a 200watt rydge ryder solar blanket but want to changhe to a 200watt solid one on my roof. But good vid and info.

      I’m running an no brand eBay MMPT charge as the XTM only came with a PWM at the time. It really does do a stand up job. The 95l dometic is always on with both sides set to -1c

    Ha mate great job. To get around not removing your solar panel, if you had brought a roof rack that had mesh squares on the bottom, you could have put the solar panel underneath the rack so it doesn’t get in the way. Thanks for the video Cheers.

    • @robertwilson1827

      Wouldn't that reduce the solar quality?

    • @JebbreysJibberish

      It would also damage the solar panel over time because it wouldn’t be getting an even spread of light

    I'm looking to do the same thing to my Prado. I have the platform roof rack too and I was thinking of how I can mount a 160W panel but still use the rack.
    So I thought that a runner track system so I can unlock and push the panel forward, our of the way. Then the panel can be angled up, then double as a wind deflector. I feel this is important to me as I still want the functionality of both the panel and rack at the same time.
    Good work

      I’ve just got a cheap Kinchrome one. It’s ok, it only does up to M6 so ok for light work. It’s still hard without it being hydraulic especially if using stainless ones. It is good though. Panel hasn’t budged in 2 years and lots of work.

    Hi mate
    Just came across your channel. I’m looking to fix a panel to my roof rack also. What amps are you roughly getting out of this panel.
    I have the XTM 120w blanket and that has been brilliant giving me 5/6amp using the PWM that came with it but ok needing more now so looking for a mppt controller plus fixed panel

    • @JebbreysJibberish
      @JebbreysJibberish  4 роки тому +2

      Well over 10 amps in ideal conditions. (It blue the 10amp fuse on my cheap multimeter). On paper at 14v I calculated between 12-13amps. It happily ruin the Waco 95l with both sides running flat out, a few items charging off USB and maintains battery float in the middle of the day. Obviously having it mounted flat reduces it efficiency and when it’s really hot weather it’s not as good ( panels don’t like being warm) but I’m really happy with the output. Remember though I’m using an aftermarket MPPT controller on it and that makes a big difference, especially in the early and late parts of the day.

    Hello, I’m not here to keyboard bash you, I had a 110w semi flexi solar panel from kings installed on my canopy, for a “cheap” panel it worked great full sun I was pulling 5amps at most, it got destroyed when it got smashed with golf ball sized hail decided to bounce off it, I was impressed enough by it that I replaced it with another one, except 4wd supacentre sent me a 160w semi Flexi panel haha I think there good, I also have a fixed 110w panel from kings and it also works great to top up the battery on a cloudy day

    Hey mate just a FYI having your mppt charge primary battery before house battery is a good idea however the only issue i can see with that configuration is that deep cycle and lead acid battery(start battery) have different charge profiles and different voltages at full charge. You will never fully charge your house battery in this configuration as the primary battery will be lower voltage than what the house battery requires to fully charge. Also you have basically made having a mppt charger useless as you are no longer benefiting from the battery specific charge profiles which are designed to fully charge your battery and make them last longer.

    • @JebbreysJibberish
      @JebbreysJibberish  4 роки тому +4

      That would be the case if the second battery was different to the primary, however I have learnt over many years of camping and touring that expensive batteries under the bonnet are a waste of time as the heat in Australia and Long highway runs kills them anyway, so I run identical primary and secondary batteries under the bonnet. Your theory would be sound if I was running an AGM or lithium in the back, but I run two identical wet cell crank batteries under the bonnet which is why I have configured the mppt the way I have.

      @@JebbreysJibberish easy mate. Did u connect anderson on the regulator on the solar connection? And ran the wires for battery straight to main battery?

    • @JebbreysJibberish
      @JebbreysJibberish  4 роки тому

      So I connect negative and positive from controller to panel then negative from controller to roof rack mount and ran the positive down to the dual battery isolator so that I can change the battery it is connected to in just a couple of minutes if I change my mind on which one I want charged from the panel.

    • @prins2x
      @prins2x 3 роки тому +1

      What kind of isolator have you got? I've got a redarc in the engine bay, can I do the same you reckon? Thanks

    • @JebbreysJibberish
      @JebbreysJibberish  3 роки тому

      Depends if it’s PWM or MPPT. Being a Redarc I’d guess it’s MPPT which would mean you would need negative and positive from the panel to the regulator.
