Loved it, I always struggle with the tempo of this song. Been playing around with this song a lot, have left the M13 alone, been using the SD-1 and Mem Man into an AC4. Not a close as you by far. Great that you showed the settings at the end. Your video's are always class. Thanks for sharing your efforts.
Awsome stuff, I realy appriciate your and mick's abilities to replicate the Edges sound threw the M13. Thanks for the settings too. I just ordered a M13 a couple days ago and look forward to messing with it when it shows up. Thanks again.
Hey Gerry - another fantastic cover. I love the way you play U2 - the energy and feel is great - got to be something to do with being Irish I'm sure. Thanks for your videos I (like many others) really enjoy them.
The right hand technique is what made all the great players sound the way the did. Clapton, Hendrix, Vaughn, etc. Nice to see you like the Edge. Equipment is something everyone can purchase. Technique creates the reason for buying it.
I may have left you a note in the past, but I'll say it again, out all the sludge, schlock & schlepp on You Tube and the internet as a whole, you TOTALLY nailed this good man! Yeah sure, a thing or two may be 'off', but your spirit & attention to detail to Dave Evans masterpiece is uncanny. No other I have heard from, even comes close. Thanks for your interpretation. BCRadio.
@An0n3mu55 P90s have their place with U2 sounds. Daniel Lanois uses them and he's contributed substantially to Edge's tone over the years. Edge has used P90s occasionally even live (e.g. Walk On) but more often than not he's using the Les Paul's/Explorer's Humbuckers or the Fender Strat's pups which are different...
@freedomfromhisblood Thanks. I believe the effects are the same between the M13 and the HD series - though you get amp modelling and routing choices with the HD series. I've never used the HD line though.
@Beatlemad10002 Thanks. Just remember you can only have one effect on at a time with the M5 (whereas you can have up to 4 on at the same time with the M13)
OMG!!! Look at 2:35.. Looks like someone played the video in fast motion for a few seconds... and all those harmonics came out nice. This is like a having a secret camera into the edge's house.
@justmejonboy He's just coming back to the wrong chord. In the palm muting part, he is supposed to play A#5 (powerchord), but he plays D#5 instead. BTW, the chords are A#5 and D#5, played at the ninth fret with the guitar tuned a half-step down.
fantastic version,p90's sound great,i have the much cheaper version by vintage, but it sounds and plays great.electric co is one of my favorites.to write that at 18/19 is something.
@AaronOwenSmith Thanks. It's a Shure Beta57A mic. The mic angle is simply due to the mic stand being slightly too high for the amp when on the floor and I had it pointing down towards the centre of the amp.
What setting would you use on a Deluxe Memory Man? (dial positions)... I'm missing something! Superb! When I hear this amazing old pure energy U2 compared to new stuff (post POP) I want to cry for the most part!
new best for you sir. earphones almost spoilt it all :) Love the boston version and you got it band on, really well done. Gerry, can you tell me is that a beta57? also about mic axis, is it pointing down a tad, i find the ac4 best just right and below of the cap center becouse of the hum from the tansformer.
If you cant get a nice tone from those amps you should look at your guitar and or settings. Remember AC30s sound best at medium and higher volumes! Also try some RCA Blackplates in the pre and make sure you break in those speakers. Played a bit through the normal AC15 and its comes into its own with these changes (broken in speakers, RCAs).
this lil amp sounds really awesome... but got just question bout it....Is this VOX AC4 loud enough for recording in a studio??? despite it's only 4 watts... I'll appreciate someone reply me ..t-you =)
@@u2john316 Is that right? Well I think it must be a recording I haven't heard before because I don't recognise some of the lyrics. It's clearly not from the boy album.
Fantastic amazing infact John, what's the name of your band? as I used to be a part of the Dopplegangers U2's Official lookalikes / tribute band. be good to come see you guys play one day.
Hey John, cheers, awesone tone! :) Could you enlighten me please, all the overdriven sound comes from the SD-1, with the AC4 set all clean? or is the amp pushed into overdrive too? Thanks!
Takes me back to 83 hearing U2' for the first time on Live at Red Rocks. Amazing playing.
Thanks!
f***ing brilliant takes me back to listening to U2 in the common hall at school!
Your nailed man! U2 is a great band man, love them. Cheers from Chile.
Very nice Gerry! Thx for the settings at the end too. Not many guys do that and it really helps.

@269percy Thanks. I agree - For The Edge to have written that at 18/19 is outstanding.

Now that is the way to play that song!!!! Rock on!!
Outstanding!!!! Well done! Incredible tone!
excellent mate one of my fav tracks you done it justice pal

great tone and playing, thanks for explaining your settings at the end
Great as always Gerry. Very very sweet guitar!!!!
Very nice Gerry...sounds great! I like the chord you play at 2:30...most people miss that detail when they cover this song... ;) Cheers, Dave
Amazing tone. It's practically identical to the actual Chicago performance.

Jaysis, just awesome, awesome!!!!
just added to my plalylist, you got tat sound to a T well done m8, love to learn to play guitar, it's on my bucket list.
I always thought there was guys under the stage helping out with this track and others, but evidently not. That was excellent. Watch out Edge.
Great cover. You got the tone perfect
Awesome as usual, John.
Excellent Job, excellent!!
awesome , a very good sound, muy bueno, mas videos please.
OMG!!! Look at 2:35.. Looks like someone played the video in fast motion for a few seconds... and all those harmonics came out nice. This is like a having a secret camera into the edge's house.
Dude... you are outstanding
Great playing John! Nice Gibson too! Sexy goldtop with P90s ;)
nice guitar John....she'a a real stunner.....
Great stuff as always man!! I was wonderin' when you'd be back lol! :D :D

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! Best cover ever! I love Ireland!
Annd im not even irish i have Cuban decent!
Bono and the edge walk into a bar...the barman says not U2 again. 😎
Guitar players get to have all the fun !!
Trabajo muy bueno a pesar de de cuando en cuando de pequeñas imperfecciones continúa a guitarrista tan excelente
Hell yeah my dude.
fantastic version,p90's sound great,i have the much cheaper version by vintage, but it sounds and plays great.electric co is one of my favorites.to write that at 18/19 is something.
@sirhcdeer Yes my intro isn't correct note for note but I'm happy with the overall tone.
Just WOW!
@danakerman Love it. Sounds nice through the Blues Jnr amp too.
@AaronOwenSmith Thanks. It's a Shure Beta57A mic. The mic angle is simply due to the mic stand being slightly too high for the amp when on the floor and I had it pointing down towards the centre of the amp.
WOW!!!! Wonderful!!!
Really great!
its always the simply things i struggle with , but i will turn it up.Thank youlol
parfait!!!
Unfortunately, they shut down the web site where all of this backing tracks with Bono's vocals were available
Awesome!!! Rock on, even if I'm not an absolute fan of U2 anyway!!!!
Great Job
I've been drooling over this guitar for about a year. It's at the top of my "To Buy" list. Gorgeous. How do you like it so far?
What setting would you use on a Deluxe Memory Man? (dial positions)... I'm missing something! Superb! When I hear this amazing old pure energy U2 compared to new stuff (post POP) I want to cry for the most part!
Victory! The 100th like is mine!
new best for you sir. earphones almost spoilt it all :) Love the boston version and you got it band on, really well done.

Solid ass riff

elmero mero I used the 5 watt for a gig, because it was back line, it's a good bedroom amp, not a gig amp, it's not nearly loud enough tbh
actually I want this amp for recording at studio ..t-you =)
For recording it doesn't really matter, since you're going to me miced-up anyway. A 1 watt amp could be used for recording ;-)
I am a great fan of your videos Gerry:-) I was wondering - are you playing down strokes only in the intro part? Keep up your amazing U2 covers.
You made my want to get an AC9.
This is fantastic, such a great cover. Were you multitracking your voice during the song? When you sang, you sounded just like Bono.
No it's Bono's voice from a U2 performance but with the guitar taken out of the original track.
@@u2john316 Is that right? Well I think it must be a recording I haven't heard before because I don't recognise some of the lyrics. It's clearly not from the boy album.
great!!! very nice!!!
👏excellent

super
excellent as ever john The mic to the ac 4 is that going into a mixing desk or pc .I am a complete noob when it comes to such things cheers/
Cool!
Or change to an AC15 (with blue speakers) which you can turn up without blowing your ears!!!
Hey John, cheers, awesone tone! :) Could you enlighten me please, all the overdriven sound comes from the SD-1, with the AC4 set all clean? or is the amp pushed into overdrive too? Thanks!
it's only a problem of mine but I'm not able to see the settings on the m13...
Great tone mate , I have a ac30 hand wired with green backs in it and can't get a nice tone ,any suggestion , please
Wow✌
Man, I have the epi versin of the gold top 56 and it´s a monster. In my opinion it sounds way better to the standard. P90´s are amazing.
My sir, what a fucken performance if you excuse the profanity. That was bloody awesome!
Fuck,fuck fuck.ing good.
Are you in a U2 tribute band? How do you afford all this lovely gear?
😳😳😳❤️
@cowboytonydee Can you explain what the correct chord is then ?
Where did you get the backing track
😎
just one question what disto do u use to get EDGE's sound?? I'll appreciate someone reply me ..t-you bye =)
+ulsa_smths demo He is using the tube drive on the Line 6 M13.. It shows his gear and settings at the end of the video

#1
@WTig3r "all over the place" my arse.. Maybe not 100% tempo perfect but come on lol...
this may be a really dumb question, but how do you tune to e flat on a tuner.cheers.
10 pts!
Yes, Edge plays the intro differently. No big deal...
two delays ???
Just one delay
Mate, your sound is PERFECT, you just have to really work on your timing. and the riff at the start doesn't sound quite right.
Cheers mate
ms ?? please
It would have been a dotted 8th delay but I don’t remember the BPM for the backing track used.
friend you don't play anymore.?. don't like U2 anymore?
AC4, I mean.
end of run down at 3 mins 5 seconds is a full d major chord
he looks like somemat that edge would of worn
luke fawbert 😂😂😂😂😂
Do the 1981 version. This later version, such as you're doing, doesn't sound as good.
0:12 - 0:49 sounds off to me
second chord is wrong
Interesting way of playing I Is A Cry but alright
Wrong chord in Cry.
