Great concert!!! Best outdoor concert I ever attended. Can you believe U2 was the first warm up band at this concert. Billing higher was Joe Cocker, Stray Cats, Motor Head, and headliner was Steve Miller. Might have been one other but not sure. This was also the first Rock concert ever broadcast LIVE across the USSR !!!!
It goes without saying the U2 would be the main act these days, I'm actually going to see them playing at Marvel Stadium next Friday, the opening act is Noel Gallagher.
Just awesome to see this in 2012... I was turned onto U2 by a dorm mate at college. SUNY New Paltz Bouton Hall in 1982. I was hooked by November and was so psyched to hear new stuff from them. This was recorded in 1983 Amazing. I spent my summer after New Paltz in Germany in 1985. So that is an interesting coincidence. Germany has an appreciation for music and they are good people. Especially the young generation. I am the same age as members of U2. My youth was with the Beatles. Adulthood U2!
danke für den tollen Kommentar!:) kein Problem!;) Hach, ich wäre auch gerne in Berlin gewesen, habs aber 'nur' bis Gelsenkirchen geschafft. war aber auch echt super!!!
@Gledderling I am translating what you wrote with a software::: Yes, I'll Berlin, despite the high cost to me - Fat loss in the cards - keep in super memory - had I think three days of soreness just hopping, clapping, and no voice from singing along! U2 are simply the best! Take care of yourself!
You are SO RIGHT "magsieboy2501" the audio from this video was the one used on the original "UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY" Record EP, but at the same time this video was shot, there was probably a multi-track recorder used to capture the single audio tracks, then subsequently "remixed" for the record. What you are "hearing" here, was the "RAW" live sound-board audio mix that was automatically recorded on the video-strip, hence it was LOUSY, full of mistakes, which was "cleaned-up-later" for the Record.
Did you hear what happened near the end of the last chorus? Some strange echoing was happening and it caused some distortion, I wonder if the audio engineer accidentally introduced a monitoring loop into the recording.
@@Lachlant1984 Yes, at exactly 4:23 on the video timeline here, a "loop", "echo", "reverb" or "feedback" sort of happened; that's what we call in the scientific recording arts/audio mixing industry, as "A BIG FAT GOOF"!!! As mentioned, what we are hearing here, is the RAW P.A. MIX that was BLARING from the speaker columns during this song, hence a "2-mix" recording (for reference only) was being made from that sound mix. Also, in a "sound truck" parked somewhere on that lot, was yet ANOTHER technical audio set-up, that included either a 16 track or 24 track reel-to-reel recording unit (about the weight of a BOAT ANCHOR!), which was used to record ONLY the live, UNMIXED FEEDS, coming from the stage, consisting of Edge's guitar amp and vocal microphone, Adam's direct interface coming from his bass amp, the MULTIPLE microphones placed around Larry's drum kit, Bono's lead vocal microphone & about 4 audience microphones to capture all the crowd's applause & participation. THEN that multi-track spool was properly mixed down at a post-production studio facility (and the "feedback loop" was excised) and the mastered recording was pressed to the original vinyl & audio cassette, entitled "UNDER BLOOD RED SKY". Yes indeed...a great puzzled-piece of U2 "technical" history! BolsaChicaRadio
@@BolsaChicaRadio I have UABRS on CD and I love it, it's what got me right into U2 years ago. Sadly the version I have is edited and doesn't contain the lines from Send In The Clowns, I've heard the original version which does, and the acoustics during that passage are fantastic, I love them, you can really hear a lot of reverberation in Bono's voice.
Bruni95 has also uploaded I Will Follow from the same live set. If you've listened to it on UABRS, you may hear echoes during parts of the song, such as in the bridge where Bono sings "Your eyes make a circle", and towards the end where he's shouting "I will" at the top of his voice. Epic moments by the way. But in the video Bruni95 uploaded, you don't hear the echoing. Was that added post recording during the editing and production phase? Was an echo loop added by whatever recorded the audience microphone feed?
@@Lachlant1984 Again, same kind of "dealio". (...just for reference, I'm a Southern California, USA kind of guy; brought up between East Los Angeles & Huntington Beach...hence, even though only geographically 45 miles apart from each location, the "English Dialect" is MASSIVE DIFFERENT between the two! Guys from Huntington Beach say, "Hey Dude, what's the DEAL?" Guys from East L.A. say, "Hey Homz, what's the DEALIO?") OK, now that I made that extremely nonsensical distinction...let's move on: Again, there were BOTH VAST & YET AT THE SAME TIME SUBTLE DIFFERENCES between all the versions of the audio cuts released on the "U2 LIVE-UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY" record album and audio cassette, that were taken from multiple locations. Only TWO of which actually came from the Red Rocks Amphitheatre/Denver, CO, USA venue; FIVE from the Freilichtbühne Loreley/St. Goarshausen, Germany venue and the remaining ONE from the Orpheum Theatre/Boston, MA, USA venue...EVEN THOUGH...both the "pictorials" are basically the same on the record album/audio cassette AS WELL AS the video cassette...in other words...those still-photos ONLY CAME from the Red Rocks Amphitheatre/Denver, CO, USA location. Why am I mentioning photos? Because in late 1983 when this project was released, the actual videocassette SOLD BETTER then the album & it's singles, pseudo leading the purchaser to believe that ALL THE AUDIO CUTS on the record album & audio cassette, CAME ONLY from the Denver, CO, USA location, which is NOT the case. Here on You Tube, there is footage from the Germany location, that in it's RAWEST UNMIXED FORM, has oodles & oodles or mistakes, goof & gaffs....and was later, radically, cleaned up and PROPERLY MIXED DOWN FROM THE MULTI-TRACKS for the record album. So, putting a cap on these discoveries, YOU WILL HEAR on these "LIVE MIXES" from GERMANY, many echos, crashes, smashes, distortions & all kinds of "EXPLOSIONS" that were CLEANED UP & MIXED OUT, before those songs made it to the record pressing plant. I hope this "enlightening academically profound dissertation", shines a better understanding, on this never ending topic. BolsaChicaRadio
Its always good to see a bit of vintage U2! This was from the days when Bono could actually run about the crowd and not be mobbed lol! I love Adam Clayton's heavy bass playing in the early days, he's very understated and subtle now but back then he was hitting that bass hard lol :D :D

@bigrobbo1989 Well, actually, kinda-sorta, both you are correct in certain aspects of your points, that is, YES, "Under A Blood Red Sky" was taped in Denver and first released to VHS video in 1983 and later rereleased to DVD in 2009. However, what you are "hearing" on this Germany video was the "soundtrack/audiotrack", in it's RAW FORM that was released on the album(LP), cassette & later CD of "Under A Blood Red Sky" (including the infamous vocal bridge). I think he threw it like a spear lol but also American tour and records were to come maybe was why before Americas record companies twisted & ruined a good thing the real thing! its a great question !!

How the hell did Bono get up there and how did he get back so quickly? Amazing. This is the version that ended up on UABRS that autumn.
