Both Smokey Robinson and Ray Charles, when asked who was the best soul singer, replied Joe Cocker. Please, please do Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful.
By far my favorite song of his. My wife loves it because I don't dance... ever, but with a little liquor in me I'll dance with her to that song. ( That's usually when she cuts me off. 😂)
Live in Berlin
That smokey voice is so soothing
A good point, but all the best blues singers were hearing it as pure experience separated from US cultural baggage by being British, and then lighting it up with this freedom they'd never had before. They really had nothing like the blues and rock in the UK so it pollinated into....basically all the best of classic rock.
She Came in Through he Bathroom Window
Joe was a British Soul Singer, he was a genre all his own!
So while this song resonates with the Beatles version he took blue eyed soul before it's time and prog rock and whatever Joe singing really is like and mushed it into something quite original. Still feels like rock similar to ELP and BTO and guess who but at the same time rock was soul sped up and this was just rock slowed down so to speak.
Not many people were able to improve a Beatles song, this is how a cover should be, a whole different vibe than the original.
I still like the original Beatles arrangement better, but you are right about one thing, Joe Cocker's covers are a work of his own in arranging and interpreting.
So many of his versions like You Are So Beautiful and Unchain My Heart for me are the best versions of each song =D
And his version of With a Little Help From My Friends is easily the second best recording of it by far!!!
Wow I never Knew it was a Beatles song
Either that or an exact sound alike. Two totally different skills, but I greatly respect both.
When the Beatles heard Joe Cocker's version, they said the song was all Joe's.
The Beatles suck. They’re the 1960’s equivalent of the Backstreet Boys
NOW that you've discovered Joe, you NEED to see him do this LIVE AT WOODSTOCK!
Next up...
YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL
FEELING ALRIGHT
THE LETTER Enjoy 😉
Absolutley, YES!
Add you can leave your hat on😉
The Letter - Live from the Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour.
From Mad Dogs and Englishmen: Let’s go get Stoned & Space Captain
I wish someone would've suggested the woodstock version in the first place
Was there ever a day in your life, MrLBoyd, when multiple relative strangers wrote you that "You Are So Beautiful'? This is your day, Sir.
“You can leave your hat on” is another great song by him, also there’s “unchain my hart” and “feeling alright”, “she came in through the bathroom window” and many others.
If you like joe cocker you’ll also love Janis Joplin.
I like him but don't like her. Oh well.
@@dingfeldersmurfalot4560 hmmm never heard of anyone not liking Janis, you’re obviously not a musician.
Everyone has their tastes I guess.
All excellent.
Janis isn't in the same league
@@mattphillips538 that’s a joke right? Or you just don’t know anything about music?
Mr Cocker is known for his spastic movements on stage, he is not only a man how sings but a man who FEELS everything about the song from the depths of his soul....
If you watch some of his live performances closely, you'll see there's a purpose behind every spastic move he makes. He's following every note played by every instrument. The other live performance of this with Leon Russell is better to view that.
Joe Cocker doing Bye Bye Blackbird and Come Together are my faves
Oh JFC Come together is quakingly good.
Bye Bye Blackbird is one of my all time faves, and contains a delicious Pre-Zeppelin Jimmy Page solo.
Hard to believe he is not in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame, but he covered many songs and made them his own with that awesome voice. I love his rendition of The Letter.
Feelin' Alright Live or The Letter Live are absolute FIRE gems.
Check out The Letter live from the Princes Trust Rock Gala. Incredible.
My favourite too
Cocker is a legend. His Woodstock performance was epic! He's one of those early rock artists that drew heavily on the soul and blues legacies of the prior generation of mostly black artists.
The live performances from the Mad Dog & Englishmen tour are tge best.
Leon Russell leads the band.
Woodstock was only let down by Joe’s backing singers.
"She came in through the bathroom window", "the letter", and "feelin alright" are other great tunes he sang
The next Joe Cocker song you should listen to is “Feeling Alright”
He is so young in this version - and his performance just improved with time!
"You Can Leave Your Hat On."
oh you will not be disappointed
The closest singer to Joe Cocker, and what you liked about him, was his contemporary, Janis Joplin. If you haven't reacted to her, the live performance of Ball And Chain from the Monterrey Pop Festival is a stellar performance.
I think of Janis as being more like James Brown than Joe Cocker.
I agree with the original guy, Janis Joplin is her own thing, but once said, I agree, she is a female Joe Cocker way more than james Brown.
For a current comparison I'd go with Teddy Swims.
And John Bulushi. LOL
THAT FUCKING PERFORMANCE THO!!! I've seen it and listened to it a million damn times. Soon as I hear that first line of, "Sittin' down by my window, just lookin' ahhhh-out at the raaaiiinnn..." I get fuckin' chills! Every. Damn. Time!!! But my favorite part, is probably when the camera pans over to Mama Cass Elliot's face in the audience a couple times, and you can see her jaw just drop and her mouth, "WOW!" Janis was one of a kind, man...
Old Beatles song, that he covered, and made it a huge hit. John Lennon said, "I guess this song now belongs to Joe, our (Beatles) good friend." He actually had another hit written by The Beatles, "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window". Joe Cocker is a British "Soul singer" that died in the last few years at about age 75 I think. What a voice.
Wasn't exactly old at the time, Sgt. Pepper's came out the year before.
Paul Mc Cartney always said Joe's was the best version. I wouldn't call him a soul singer at all.., more blues . He had a lot of soul yes, but 2 different things . Try Delta Lady . Joe was from Sheffield, a very tough industrial steel town in the North of England Another great band from there is Def Leppard . Try Pour some sugar on me . by them.. Their drummer has only one arm. I have just subscribed, and think you are the cream of the crop, a true gentleman and music lover 👍🏻👍🏾 Thank you
@@sallybannister6224 I agree. He is a true gentleman and has the best reaction videos.
Another great Beatles song, wonderfully covered
Delta Lady was my Dad's favorite. Joe made a career of covers
RIP Joe Cocker, best live concerts I have attended.
You are so beautiful and You Can Leave Your Hat On are both great tunes!
You can leave your hat on is amazing , I agree @Kristy
My daughter danced to you are so beautiful at her wedding with her stepdad beautiful moment in time
"You are so beautiful" Joe Cocker is what you're looking for
He’s the master of cover songs! Another great cover of his is “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”.
Come together ROCKS. Joe is incredible and has been on my Playlist since the 70s. Yes, I'm old
In '68? This was rock-and-roll. Nowadays it's classic rock.
This song performed by him..always gives me goose bumps. Look for the live version with female backup vocals and Leon Russell on guitar wearing a serious stove top hat. Too cool. You just got turned onto Greatness 🎵‼️
I believe that version is from Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
@@thomaswilliams2273 Yep, Tommy boy.
A lovely bloke, started life as a plumber from Sheffield, England 🇬🇧
Listening to”You are so Beautful “ live is a treat.
So much soul. If he and Janis had done a duet, the world would have evolved.
The world would have ended, having reached it’s greatest potential. Everyone else may as well quit and go on home🤗🐝❤️
@@deborahdanhauer8525 👍
With Jimi Hendrix on guitar 😊
I was raised on this music. Huge hip hop head now, but I listen to everything.
“You can leave your hat on” is my favorite Joe Cocker song.🤗🐝❤️
One of my all time favorites is when Joe Cocker teams up with Jennifer Warnes singing "Up where we belong" I love Cockers stage presence, he is quite animated on stage.
Joe Cocker is the single greatest cover artist of all time. He had an insane ability to take a song and turn it on its head. Pure brilliance.
Joe Cocker - Black Eyed Blues is one of my all time favorites but it is not as well known. Even if you do not react to it here, do yourself a service and give it a listen. Joe mostly does covers which normally I am not a fan of but his Soul and energy comes through so much that when he is done the song is his. It does not matter who did it first.
I consider Joe Cocker's eponymous 1972 album which featured Black Eyed Blues to be his finest work.
It boggles my mind that it is not as well known as it should be.
when this was released i was 7 years old and went to friend of my brothers house and joe cocker music was blasting out the window..welcome to the 60's baby..x
If you want to do a crossover reaction, check him out on an early Saturday Night Live, where John Belushi comes out and parodies Joe right next to him. It's one of the funnier things I've ever seen.
It's funny and completely brilliant at the same time. Belushi's impression is wayyyy up there.
If you think that's impressive, just know this version was one of the least impressive versions I've heard of this song from him...and it still rocks.
I got fond over The Wonder Years first seasons version. 😉
Woodstock
I suggested this in a comment once, and it was the Woodstock one.
I was sitting here thinking the same thing. Glad I wasn't the only one.
Yea, the version from Woodstock is just so much more. Then again, live performances usually are that way. It also shows how physical he is when he performed.
Instantly recognisable vocals, that man can sing his ass off
I’ve had the privilege to see Joe live back in ‘95. What an epic performance!….He drove the audience crazy
Joe’s singing you can leave your hat on is my favorite song of his. I have to mention it is the best song to strip to. Lol
Have a little faith is a great tune
You Can Leave Your Hat On and She Left Out the Bathroom Window are great by Joe.
When Joe performed any song he always appeared to be having an out of body experience
It's so much fun to see you enjoy this. Here I am , 76 yrs old, and I rocked out with Joe so many years ago. Love 'em.
Joe Cocker: When the Night Comes is amazing.
Watching your face and the happy smile that started once Joe started singing makes this video so much better. Joe Cocker has always been one of my favorites, although I admittedly don't even have a record by him. (My mom has, though ;-) )
It's just a singer who, once a song comes on, makes me smile happily.
What a voice.
Also,I think "Leave your hat on" should be your next one.
His performance of this at Woodstock is iconic! You would swoon. Joe had the Spirit! Did you know this is a Beatles’ tune? Joe loved Ray Charles. Pure R&B.
Other killers- “ You Can Leave Your Hat On” “ The Letter” , “ Up Where We Belong” “ Feelin’ Alright”.
Impossible to listen to and watch this without smiling. Love it!
I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Joe Cocker live in concert about 50 years after this performance and absolutely nothing has changed. His passion, style, and voice are still sublime and yes, the roadies still have to practically drag him offstage. SUBLIME!
Joe's voice and style is very unique. Try listening to "The Letter", "She came in through the Bathroom Window", or "Delta Lady". "Whiter Shade of Pale" is another one of his brilliant covers you really should check out if nothing else! Joe was reportedly strongly influenced by Ray Charles.
I love She Came in Thru the Bathroom Window. Joe is definitely a one of a kind artist and I too love his voice. I get a little nervous watching his body movements sometimes, tho! LOL!! It's definitely a MUST that he be viewed LIVE!
Because of the TV Show The Wonder Years, I only ever known this as a Joe Cocker song. And was shocked to find out this was originally a Beatles song. Joe's is of course the best version.
Joe Cocker could knock your socks off like he did in this song then turn around and melt your heart like in "You Are So Beautiful". He was the BEST!
"What genre is this?"......... It's just called Joe Cocker genre. The man was on a level all on his own. He didn't just sing. He felt every note deep down in his soul.
If you want to wait for another suggestion. Until then, Check out the Woodstock performance, same song.
You sir, are a king amongst men....Fully appreciating the great UK vocalists....
You would Absolutely Love 💚
Feeling Alright (Woodstock Live)
Joe sings the Heck Out of that one 👍
Excellent Reaction 👏🏼👏🏼
Stay Safe 🤗
The Beatles would let him into the studio to pick songs to cover.
I always wanted to hear him and Janis Joplin together. That would have been epic.
that would have been great duet
Joe Cocker was a gem.....an absolute DIAMOND in the rough.........LEGEND.
Joe was one of a kind. You can hear influences of blues, soul, and even a bit of big band.
everybody saying you should do 'you are so beautiful' missing the best tracks, The Letter and You Can Leave Your Hat On
Joe sings ugly in a beautiful way. If he and Chris Stapleton could have shared a stage I think time would have stopped.
Joe Cocker was a once in a lifetime talent. RIP.
The Letter is a must.
This was a cover of a Beatles song. I hope you know who the Beatles are if not please find out who they are. Joe Cocker did a lot of covers and did them his way. One of my favourites by him is Delta Lady. This genre is ROCK. Rock is a fusion of a number of different influences. Blues, jazz, folk, classical and even Medieval music. Music wasn't pidgen holed back then like it is today. If you can find the version with Leon Russell or the Woodstock version it is even better. Cheers
Should have watched the same song from the Woodstock Concert. Try to find "The Letter" from the Mad Dogs And Englishmen tour featuring Joe Cocker and Leon Russel. Saw the movie of this concert in the early 70s and the whole concert was great. Joe took any song and made it his own. R.I.P. Joe Cocker.
I absolutely loveeeee that you stumbled upon Joe. His energy is so infectious!!!
This song and Feeling Alright are my 2 favorites by him 🥰
What Genre... IMHO...a meld of soul blues gospel rock brilliance! Thanks for continuing sharing your "First Time" on so many songs that are at the root of my musical soul for decades. Your reaction is beautiful, honest and genuine and pure. Keep sharing you love of music new to you with the world, you keep older tunes shining bright! Thank you for your channel.
Joe Cocker was amazing! Love this reaction!
You can leave your Hat On is one of my favorites ❣️
Since I am a child of the late 70's-80's and my parents are of the 40's-50's. I grew up listening to this music period a lot. All I can think from this song is The Wonder Years show.
My favorite song is Night Calls. I can't explain why, it just speaks to me. The lyrics, Joe Cocker's voice, it always makes me emotional. Loved your reaction.
The great Joe Cocker. Rip! If I had the opportunity, I would've gone to see this man sing just one song. He's that good.
Well, you found my favorite Joe song. I love watching the look on your face as you appreciate.
I never knew this was a Beatles song because he owned it!
Joe sings with heart everytime
“you are so beautiful “:
Another epic song
I saw Joe twice in Sydney. Fabulous. Must also hear Hitchcock Railway and his unbelievable version of Cry Me A River. Unforgetable
Joe is now retired and living in Oklahoma! I loved his performance at Woodstock! In his performance he always moved like he was having an seizure. Another great from the 60's!
I think somebody must love the blues. 👍👍 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
Joe Cocker - 'Feeling Alright' is an amazing song.
👉 Joe Cocker was a great musician... a legend. He was his own genre but he sang with his soul... I love listening to him. 🌼🇩🇪
Love love love. This was the theme song for the 80s show The Wonder Years. This is genre r&b... Rock 'n Blues!
You are do beautiful. by Joe Cocker. Love this one
It is so much fun to watch your reaction to one of my favourite singers.
This is your best reaction ! Your eyes just light up thank you 👍👍👍😎
Pure Straight UP ROCKn'ROLL !!!!!!
The great thing about Joe Cocker is that he let's the music poses him and let's it just flow out. He is incredible in so many ways! Bless him. You can tell music is his soul's spark.
The last concert I had the pleasure of seeing was Joe Cocker along with Guess Who. A great memory.
You are so beautiful to me, unchain my heart and the letter, are 3 songs among my favourites by this outstanding artist, you won't go wrong with either one ,take care...
Joe Cocker doesn't just sing a song. he becomes one with it! Luckily I got to see him in concert!
Another great one from Joe is You can leave your hat on. Fantastic song jazz and blues mixed
‘You did that bro, you definitely just sang that’ what a great thing to say, I felt the same way. You’re just like… wow
Joe Cocker, my favourite Gas Board man after my dad and uncle! What a voice! Always end up back watching his set from Woodstock, amazing
Tokin' and smokin' in the 60's. I was there, thank you. I love that I can re-live it.
Love LOVE LOVE Mr. Joe Cocker and any song that came out of his mouth! He sang a few Beatles covers. Another favorite of mine is She came in through the bathroom window....The Letter.....oh I could go on and on!!! Great reaction! Sue
"Unchain my Heart" is my favorite Joe Cocker song.
Greatest cover interpretation ever…and not confined to this song. Joe touches it…and it’s wonderful.
He's going inside out and reaches within the listener. You can not touch people on a soul level if your gift is not coming from a mutually deep place. A gem is right!
