You forgot a Big inspiration on the Raf Bomber Jacket , the guy that you see in the patch of the Bomber was a Guitarist on a band call The Maniac Street Preachers , he disappeared one day without leaving any trace's and Raf being a fan of this band like the idea of putting him in a Bomber with articles talking about his disappearance , that's another point of why is so significant for Raf fans and is a pretty limited piece ( He was never found and declared death btw )
OhhhhhhhOH Theo appreciate the input. With these types of videos I know I will miss something (or a lot of things) really they're best as a conversation starter.
@@BraveNewWear All the patches on his pieces are really cool references like the manic street preachers, david bowie, bauhaus, joy division, sonic youth, black flag, suicide, monte cazazza, public image ltd, mission of burma and more bands / musicians and he has references to movies too like death race 2000, christiane f, and the texas chainsaw massacre. Alot of really cool references on the patches from the Riot Riot Riot collection
Hello Christian once again, awesome video. I came here to comment on this old video because it is my first video of you that I watched. I was introduced to this video from one of the archive pages on Instagram and I came to say that you have came a long way since I started watching you.
thank u friend, its been a lot of fun making these vids, making them better (hopefully) each time. Don't regret the mistakes i've made in the past tho like i've said multiple times
your vids have a great editing style, big fan of the (shitty) green screen. also i think you did really good analysis of the multiple facets of how this price came about in a concrete way
Also gotta give credit to the Belgium artist Peter De Potter he was the one who came up with the collage style graphics for Rafs collections from the Riot Riot Riot Collection to the SS02 Woe onto those collection to the SS2003 Consumed collection.
super dope video! I found your channel early on in the quarantine and have been enjoying absorbing some of your knowledge and perspective...I collect and style a lot of vintage just based on my own aesthetic judgment but don't actually know much about fashion history or who's who in high fashion, so loving all your shit and your humor, keep it up. A deeper dive into the fashion archive crowd would def be interesting
Thank you David im really stoked to hear you discovered the channel and (despite not already knowing about this fashion history) you’re liking it, that makes my night.
Someone else might have said this (don't quite have the energy to read all 107 comments today), but re: your question at 9:55-10:00 minutes "why not martin margiela or helmut lang", I have an answer on martin and that is ---> most of martin's best work is womens. So if you're talking about pieces that would appeal to a menswear community, you have a decade or thereabouts (and I'd say the best period) where MMM was entirely or mostly womenswear (even if some pieces obviously are/could be/work as unisex). There's a period until 2006 or so when the menswear/general clothes remain good, but not as good (in my opinion). Take knitwear post miss deanna as one small example, the difference is striking when staff international comes along. Also, frankly, MMM at its best was/is /weirder/ than Raf although not always in ways that are obvious, and maybe the appeal is (accordingly) not as immediate (but IDK about this bit). A camo bomber is a camo bomber. Just my (stream of consciousness) observation. Don't have a good answer on 'why not helmut lang' or for that matter YY, vivenne westwood, etc.
appreciate it Christopher - its fair to say that unlike the other designers, Raf was strictly menswear (does that mean men are the only ones who bought it, probably not) but in terms of elevating mens fashion that was more of what he focused on as a designer compared to Helmut or Martin
appreciate it! I spent a lot of time thinking about the video and then cutting a bunch of stuff and it came out...pretty ok but theres still a lot of room to get better.
Does Kanye or Drake even listen to the Manic Street Preachers? I bet they have no clue who they even are. They are just wearing what their stylist forces them to wear.
I think kanye to his potential credit made the decision to pick up this jacket when he met with david casavant. I imagine Casavant knew all the history behind the jacket and kayne obvi knew who raf was but IDK if MSP played any role or if he is even aware of the connection
Ur videos are soo different from the other "fashion youtubers", and I live them. Keep It up Christian.
you gotta be different - really I just kind of make what I would like to talk about and let my own (sometimes bad) intuition guide the video.
Who needs a bmw 4 series when you can take the bus in the Raf Bomber 😂👌 Loved the vid !
thats what i've been thinking and who needs to pay for rent when I can just live in the subway problem solved

Ik this is not on the topic of the video , I still loved the video I just wanted to say this quick fact

10/10 very interesting and entertaining. This kinda rough and chill editing is perfect
lol appreciate it dude, rough and chill indeed, maybe if I can figure out my lighting set up we can get a better green screen effect.
Young handsome Steve Buscemi over here. The is was awesome and hilarious at times.
Thank u for saying I’m the young handsome Steve Buscemi a lot of people leave that part out 😏😏😏 hope u enjoyed friend
Have to give credit where credit is due. Subscriber and notification skwad 👊🏽
cant wait for the archive youtubers to move on from the riot bomber and start flexing the marilyn Monroe dress
thats really what I've been waiting for this whole time

sometimes u just gotta go with your shitty green screen and roll with it. Only posers properly light and key their green screens in videos.

holy crap and i was just watching the newly released show
s/o to your fashion archive
You could say that Grailed was the Holy Grail to sell at such a price lol

When you mute the video at 10:50 Christian looks like a sign language tv guy

archivist are still underground! I hope it stays that way and the mainstream don't mess it up
Well...only time will tell. In the end it might be too niche and too expensive for a real “mainstream wave” unlike collecting streetwear
