Luke is also a Meinl Stick & Brush artist and is playing his signature model sticks (SB600).
If you're a cymbal company, there's no better guy to showcase your cymbals than Luke. His cymbal playing is super expressive and rich.
David Diepold
IMO, after 10+ years of watching his drumming, Luke has very little "feel", relatively speaking. Too robotic and is basically the Jason Richardson equivalent of drumming, i.e., one of those "look what I can do" players, hence why they work together musically. There are many other "better" drummers on the Meinl roster who can really do more justice for illustrating all the different articulations that can be played on a cymbal. Matt Halpern in the obvious example, but there's also Joey Baca, Benny Greb, Mike Johnston, among many others. Also, I'm not discrediting Luke's drumming, he's phenomenal at what he does, I'm just not into the "drum machine" style of playing, but it's all subjective at the end of the day.
@@kernelxsanders spot on. everyone's going for some unique niche within drumming. Its all been done before, so to be relevant in 2010-2020 and onwards you either need to be an amazing all round general drummer with musicality, feel, ability to do justice to cymbals and their range as you discussed, or be a chris turner/luke holland type, getting dry cymbals and DW's to have that live drum kit sounds that imitates EQ drum program drums. that said, the sound that HAS evolved now from acoustic drums and the curing on cymbals, and the level of precision that's required to be relevant, is its own amazing achievement. We are all watching it and keeping up to date with Luke and drummers alike, because while its true that the playing may lack many elements of potential capability, so a loss in Qualitative and raw expression, well, i guess, you just try and become as good as these guys and get to this level 😛 Showing off because you can show off means that they are securing the views of a niche, which means for other bands as their relevancy disappears, and they try to get more techy or riffy or add other elements to gain traction, well, the guys that have already been doing "look what i can do" as the objective from the get go, will have set the bar to a certain height, and in so doing they secure their audience base. ultimately its a marketing move that leads to long term cash flow due to consistent views of their accumulated fan base and becoming "leaders" of the genre and the ones Known to be pushing the ledger on doing more precise, perfectly compressed rigged kit sounded perfection. it was an inevitable shift due to technology and perfection, and at the end of the day, its really damn hard to make money or a life out of doing music full stop. Just my thoughts which are subjective too! these guys are obviously nailing their thing that they thingin at haha.
@@kernelxsanders then u haven't seen him do covers for kpops, raps, and other genre songs
@@tehcupuk007 I sure have
This is top tier limb independence right here. Woof! You killed it Luke!
Two of the best musicians coming together again for more brilliance!
met this dude a few years back. super humble and really easy to chat.
One of my favorite drummers for a long time. Great to see you're still killing it as always (:
God DAMN. Luke came out swinging on this track. Matt Garstka may have a real contender for the throne now. Meinl.. We need a drum battle. Make it happen!
Had to come back. Those alternating cymbal mutes..
LMAOOO cut the shit. Luke is a brilliant drummer for sure but Matt is untouchable. Berklee’s top tier musician.
@@MrCaliforniabound Matt is definitely God Tier but Luke is also still very young. Still would love to see a drum battle between the 2.
@@breadnaut3087 I mean Matt is only 32 so it's not like he's hitting old age
I'd love to see a Lang Zhao and Garstka drum off while we're at it
God damn 😲😲 you knocked that out the park, those fills and precise cymbal chokes 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 hell yeah what a performance, Luke you prove to all that you don't need a massive kit to do the job....outstanding work bro 👌🏼👌🏼🤘
There are SO many bad ass creative as hell licks in here that it's hard to fathom. You're amazingly talented my man, been watching since I saw the AAL CAFO cover back in the day. Props on your unending progression and dedication to the art. Bravo!!!
Tasty! Tight! Great track! Meinl cymbals really shine.Well done!
Fking tight as always Luke! Really love those ghost notes from 1:45
the fill at 1:43 followed straight into that left hand ghosty work is clean as. sounds so good.
Super tight 🔥🔥
Brilliant work !!
Also strong enough to inspire anyone for practising more or to quit drumming 😅
Very enjoyable! Nicely played.
Luke sounding amazing S always!!Oh and that baby stack is 🔥!!!
Luke and Jason's album is Sick. Just like this performance..
Amazing!!! I love it! 😍
Possibly the first time I've seen the man pay attention to what he plays because he can so flawlessly playing anything without rehearsal
Bro that bass drum lick is fucking sick as hell
2:48 is some of the cleanest muting I have ever heard
Great drum performance! but did we really expect otherwise from Luke lol also the phrasing on that lead at the beginning is so beautiful and jarring but in a tasteful way. Very Jazzy.
Wow dude. Crazy sick.
This is so sick!!
Amazing 👍🤘🏻
Reminds me of "Focus Hour" by Bulb--Misha Mansoor's work before Periphery.
Dude makes it look SO easy! Love it. Keep up the good work Luke. You're one of the best. Also are those round-tipped sticks?
Nice
Exelente exelente ejecución men!!!!
Luke is miles better than I'll ever be, and this is such a silly critique, but I will NEVER understand why he keeps that rack tom at such an angle bro
The first intro are exactly from solo part of Bleed Meshuggah. 100%.
Animal 👏👏👏
that fill at 2:18 blows my mind
I love the simplicity of this kit. I am fed up seeing mountain-like kits.
Sehr coole Performance!!! :-) Viele Grüße Gerald
Luke's playing sounds like that first version of the drum part I write in Guitar Pro, which I then simplify the hell out of because it's impossible to play
Luke noticed me on facebook comment section, I hope he sees this again 🫶🏻
Meinl!
Show me some love!
🚀🚀🚀🔥🔥🔥
this is nuts.. too nuts haha
What's with the four fingers at the beginning of the video?
Probably because of "4th Order"
Whole song is insanity, but 0:58 to 1:20 is beyond insanity.
WTH!! Not human!!
🤩😍🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😲😍🤩🤩🤩
ok, now someone chart this lol
Those toms are tuned extremely low and sound full of body and attack. Dunno how.

Hakke/Garstka/Holland
Choke ity China the Chinese cymbal 0:53
Kick sounds great. Can't hear the cymbals lol
Dude is a witch doctor.
Nothing like Bleed by Meshuggah at all.
bro heard hertas and thought it must be meshuggah
@@MerodMixing The rhythm at the start is exactly the same as the rhythm under the guitar solo in Bleed.
@@DavidOakesMusic it sounds similar but it isn’t the same
@@DavidOakesMusic if ryhtms define songs then reggeaton artist are just copying the same song over and over?
This is not even close. I actually like this better.

Great drummer, no doubt. Great! But wants to be Matt Garstka and just isn’t.
Interesting comment, can you elaborate please?
@@davidbell2336 no matter what level of a drummer you are, Matt Garstka is better. This song has multiple different ‘feels’ to it, that strongly resembles some tunes from the new animals as leaders album. I’m not talking shit. I would play copy Matt’s stuff too, if I was good enough. But I feel like he slightly trying to do what Matt is doing, just not the same.

I think we've got more to worry about than Luke "trying to copy" Matt, Lukes a god dam time traveller!!
I'll just leave that there, nothing like some good ol' fashion education lad. Don't worry I won't charge you this time
@@davidbell2336 well excuse me, I didn’t study Wikipedia before commenting. My original comment goes unchanged, and is still correct. He wants to be Matt, just isn’t. I’m sure Luke would be thrilled to know that if he wanted his dick sucked, you would be available. Good day, lad.

Wow! That was off the charts boring. Got anything musical?
I call Luke capt off beats he's the dopest player out there a true influ indeed
Buena técnica tiene el cuernos de chivo
Whoever mastered this should be fired.
I thought I was the only one. The compression is crazy!
