    Hi! I’m 18 years old and I’m transitioning from being a CVS Pharmacy technician to a medical assistant for a children’s clinic ( Nemours ). Would you say the pay is good? I live by myself in a one bedroom apartment, I’m excited for the job but I’m scared it won’t be enough to sustain my livelihood

    • @kyra_myi
      @kyra_myi  2 роки тому +3

      Honestly, you would probably make more as a pharmacy tech if your certified. The only thing is personally I think being a MA is a more "fun" or "interesting" job. Just depends on what you are looking for in life. 18 is plenty of time to figure it out.

    • @kyra_myi
      @kyra_myi  2 роки тому +1

      The DO I work for monitors the test . I set it up alone because I do have basic EKG knowledge if something is immediately wrong, I know who to contact.

    • @starladear234
      @starladear234 2 роки тому +1

      @@javierserrano4744Wrong.
      It's not within an MAs scope of practice to INTERPRET the test for the pt. However, a properly educated MA should know the difference between a normal and abnormal EKG so she can provide this information to the physician immediately. That physician, with the exception of a cardiac doctor, will most likely send out any abnormal results (a fib, v fib, etc) to a cardiologist for a second opinion.

    • @javierserrano4744
      @javierserrano4744 2 роки тому

      @@starladear234
      Not quite. In order to recognize normal vs abnormal is considered assessing not within the scope of practice. Also. If a patient develops vfib on the monitor that is considered a medical emergency and acls is to be initiated. Again, something an MA wouldn't know about, just saying this doesnt sound too safe. I would stick to front desk secretary work and or vital signs

    • @RNdavey
      @RNdavey 2 роки тому +3

      If a EKG tech can do them in the hospital who has less training than a MA I’m pretty sure a MA is capable of performing a EKG…. I’ve worked hospitals, ER, Cancer Centers so I’m pretty sure they have no problem with a trained MA doing it vs EKG techs who take a 2 weeks course or do on the job training. With a doctor being in such close reach If she needed one in an emergency I’m confused what your issue is? In any case a MD always interprets the EKG, in my years of experience an RN will never do a EKG in clinic they’re too busy doing paperwork, it’s always brushed off to EKG Tech, ED/ER Tech, MA or LPN.
