So much history, so many monuments. It's crazy what you can see in a relatively short walk in DC.

@@BaseballRoadTripper The people who designed that town’s federal district did amazing things. The beltway planners? Eh, not so much. 🤣

@@SorgiStories it made me so happy to see you highlight the Korean War Memorial. My grandpa served over there and unfortunately received a Purple Heart because of it. He never really talked much about it, and I don’t blame him. I’m so thankful he started opening up in the last few years and I had at least some fragments of what happened directly from his lips. It’s unimaginable to think he just turned off that chapter of his life, returned for high education, got a PhD, raised a family, and became a president of a community college. Such a normal life after the most intense trauma anyone could imagine.

@@BaseballRoadTripper So many soldiers’ post-war lives become that. Their discipline and determination yield incredible contributions to the world, but they neglect their own pain instead of coming to understand it and find healing. That’s what was so amazing about covering those Honor Flights, to watch these otherwise-stoic men become puddles of cathartic healing & joy because they discover people who understand, and they get the gratitude so many of them never received.
