The most Yorkshire video ever made
“Int boot”
“T back”
SYP were fitted with FULL MONTY button which turned on everything. Phased out after around 2012 when the cars started coming with equipment fitted.
Were you a TC from south Yorkshire?
Once witnessed one take off from a standing start. The entire car just crabbed down under it's initial acceleration..... absolutely awesome.
Get Pat and Karl on here from road wars. Sloughs finest.
Absolute legends the pair of them!!!...👏🏻👏🏻
Loved Road wars. The old Omega and Vectras. Still watch the odd episode on sky tv
@fuckthis81 yeah same here...there was another officer on the original road wars called Chris...he was bald...he went on to be the Head of Customs and Excise so its mad to see them on Sky chasing thugs and smashing car windows etc to get the baddies back in the day...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That traffic car brings back right memories for me. I spent many a night on foot patrol speaking to traffic lads through a 2” window gap 😂😂😂😂
I own an '07, since 2014, really happy, no problems with it (apart from some sensors last year) 310,000 kms now, and counting.
Had the same car as our response vehicle, absolutely brilliant car, only maxed out at 152mph due the drag from the light bar.
"Full Monty mode activated" 🤣🤣
This video bought back so many memories, just a brillant car to drive. When my dad passed away in 2003 i came off traffic for a period of time due to personal and professional responsibility. Went back in 2005 and retook my Adavnced Modular Course, remember on a night drive in December having fish and chips on Scarborough sea front leaving in the Volvo S60 T5 at 6.30pm back to Leics FHQ and despite changing with two other drivers on my course the car was washed and put to bed and i was driving out of FHQ on my way home by 8.30pm - just a brillant car to drive😁
I drive a 2003 XC70 AWD with a T5 spec, great car, fast comfortable and enough power to tow a house.
I've owned many automobiles and the S-60 2.5T AWD is a great car fast and reliable, Volvo for life.
Northumbria police used these as traffic cars back in the day, and everyone referred to them as ‘T5’s’, not traffic cars or Volvos etc always T5.
Still to this day people refer to traffic cars in and around Newcastle as T5’s even when they had BMWs it was always T5 and everyone knew exactly what that meant!
Funnily enough I now own a 2005 S60 T5 (not a ex police car) and you always get a ex officers or someone coming up to it asking questions about it as every knows a T5. Brilliant cars but they have the worst turning circle and handle like S***.
This brings back fond memories. I spent many a year being chased by this.
Christine Mk2 the Vectra, I remember watching one of your clips where you mentioned you enjoyed seeing the reflection of the Vectra when passing big store windows. Nostalgic old Volvo there.
Ahh you were over in Barnsley, good friend of mine is Chris lovely fella, seen the car many times it's an absolute beauty very passionate bloke.
Sheffielder here, I'm not in the police and never was, but around the time these pursuit vehicles were "haulin' ass" up and down the M1/M18/A1(M), I owned a Volvo S60 (post face-lift) albeit a diesel one. I can't claim it was the most reliable car I've ever owned - far from it, in fact I spent megabucks having it maintained, faults rectified etc, more than any other - though I did own it longer than most other cars I've had. When it came time to part company, it was a sad day. I truly loved that car and my bottom lip wobbled as I part exed it... for a Mk2 Volvo S60 - which I also love.
Uses to see T5 850 floating all the time round Dover always wanted the estate. Love a volvo me. 😎🙏👊👍✌🇬🇧
Always look forward to a video from Ben. Keep up the good work Ben! :)
Amazing to see this is still around!
I did the criminal test in this exact car back int day.
I'm interested to know how you can drive it on the road, obviously the police decal comes of on front, but what about sides and lights on top?
Old school Volvos are awsome
absolutely love a volvo, got myself a V50 with the D5.
I would totally steal this vehicle without a second thought for a bollocks out thrill ride top speed knowing I’d be caught… eventually.
But it would be sooooo worth it! 🔥
Fantastic video Ben😊
That quick as F great viewing Ben as per
Hope doing well
The British Crown Vic. they're really comfortable cruisers. generally if I watched a British show in America I would see at least one of these. I do prefer the wagon version. I think the proportions are better. I've noticed in NYC some of the ambulances are incorporating the battenberg pattern on the rear of the buses.
I saw that car regularly in my village of Chapeltown in Sheffield it as been on traffic cops too. Be interesting if ben could look around steve woodwards volvo t5 estate which as been fully restored.
Nothing better than a good old police volvo this and the V70R were the best
For ultimate flexibility the V70 T5 was King
love that ben
Essex Police had these an unmarked traffic cars, but had their estate sisters, the V70s as marked up traffic/firearms cars in the 2000s. Was speaking to a traffic officer in one of the V70s once and he said that they were fantastic cars to drive, but when being pushed hard, their MPG would go down to around 7-8mpg!
My father has owned two of those S60's, D5 models though and hands down cannot fault them.
Used to see a lot of the V70's or XC70's being driven by the RPU with SWP (South Wales Police) so not much of the S60's, can't quite recall when the forces switched over to BMW though but I think now they have put a stop to that with the forces nationwide?
D5s are fantastic, especially if you get an early euro 3 one, from before they started fitting Diesel Particulate Filters.
Greater Manchester Police also used the Volvos during the 2000s, like the Police Interceptors, they now use the BMW X5s
The best traffic vehicle I ever had the privilege to rag........
Used to fear them flying to Wigan Pier in the red tops lol.
The estate, too 😂
I currently own a 56 plate D5 version of the S60 and it's hands down my favourite car I've owned, built like a tank and goes like shit off a shovel when you boot it, plus it's barely run in with 138k on the clock 😅
I had a v70 t5. Awesome never missed a beat. Would have been more awesome if they were 4 wheel drive. Mine used to spin In 3rd...
I've got a 2005 S80 D5 SE Lux. Obviously nowhere near as fast, but I would have thought the extra room and boot space would have been an advantage. Especially with the petrol engine (V6?) model.
Great video as always ben my question is how can you legally drive the marked units on the car as they are full livery could you shed us some light on that, much appreciated mate
As far as I know the light ar must be covered and the Words "Police" cannot be shown. You can still show the Batterburg blocks. And you cannot use the additional blues or twos.
@WHITEROSEREBEL appreciate it that mate, knew the lights couldn't be on but as far as having the battenburg I thought that was only allowed for serving police vehicles
Can’t beat a Volvo
T remember a friend purchased an ex-police ford Capri with zips in the head liner and the first thing he did was a 360 in the carpark, as he said he expected it to be like any other Capri, he drove with care home did the usual oil change and stuff and he loved it, after about 3 years of ownership he took it to a ford dealership for some engine work and he was fuming when he picked it up it was driving like a donkey his words. He took it back and they said it drives like all the others if not better the engine was like new. but they had put it all to stock. He ended up finding an ex-Police mechanic who was able to get the car back to rights and never took it to ford again.
Please do a review of the evo 9 interceptor
My first traffic car that Ben .... mx05lbn loved it
It didn’t have a long life though, had its last Mot when it was around 6.5years old so at most was on the road 7.5years, that’s a very short life for a Volvo ( or most cars) maybe was in an accident :(
She didn't have a crash it just got decommissioned when the BMWs and Audis started to come through, it was a really comfortable place to sit, it wasn't high mileage either when it went
@@Danny1282 you are completely missing the point here lol, try reading my message again lol, hint: there are plenty ex police cars that age and older that are still on the road bud and you have no idea what happened to it in its “ civilian “ life, it’s obvious that no police force keeps a car for 7.5 years, it’s life ended in private hands ffs and it was relatively very young, the end… 👍 Just as well you were in traffic and not intelligence 😂
Please try not to offend me, the car could still be on the road it could be that it's on a cherished transfer (private plate) and as such it could still be on the road just under another vrm, traffic cars can get to 6 or 7 years especially motorway jeeps there are still 67 / 68 plate bmw 330s in service in forces
@@Danny1282 utter nonsense, and that’s a fact not an insult, for example if the car was on a new or cherished reg the old number wouldn’t come up with the details about a white Volvo, It would come up number not found or details of the new vehicle it’s on. This is this complete lack of basic knowledge on your part. The older cars you mention are very few in the force but yes some in certain applications do exist, however the fact is that they are “in use in the force” yet you contradict yourself by your claim to know that the car you mention was decommissioned, so which is it? And also the further fact remains that it was never mot’d again past 6.5 yrs old. I’ll make this easy for you, it’s never been on the road since 7.5 yrs old !!!! regardless if in the force or private hands!!!! I’m an ex driving instructor and it seems my knowledge far exceeds that of a traffic officer if you are anything to go by ( which in reality wouldn’t surprise me to be honest) A police officer that takes offence that easily was never gonna go well eh? 😂 “I cannot give offence (so impossible to “try to not offend”), only you can take it” only facts have be shared here bud 👍
owned a 850 T5R and S70R brilliant cars..wouldnt mind a s60r
I thought your favourite pursuit car was the Vectra!!! 😮
Got my first and only speeding ticket from a West Yorkshire T5 🤣 Comfy passenger seat anyway!
Are all police note books coded with dotted 'T's and crossed 'I's?
Seeing in rear view mirror on the motorway always used to get me nervous 😬
T5's were very tasty and with the boot full of 'T' raffic cones Lad glued their bum's to the road
With You On That Era I Had The V70 T5 Estate In Moondust Silver Y Reg 2001 Could Go From Nought To Thirty Really Quick + 142💩
How can this be driven on the roads ?Excuse my ignorance but surely can't be as it looks like a genuine police vehicle @Ben Pearson .great job on the build !
Light bar covered up normally more than likely trailered to shows. In that video police might be with him in nearby cars.
In the video, I think he was driving one of Chris’s other cars.
Probably just tape through the centre of each part that says police, that's how some TV film cars get around.
I had one and there 300 brake south Yorkshire police had them mapped to 300bhp
Where they really "Polestar tuned". I had a 2.4 twin turbo diesel one and it went like stink (ex Thames valley traffic car).
Where’s the siren demo?! 😢
As a lad who knew a few dodgy lads back in the day the t5 was feared it was the one you never wanted to see behind you every dodgy lad hated it but respected it lol
Please do a Volvo 850
Steve woodward ex Hampshire TC has one fully restored.
Vovlos were not the fastest, not the best handling, but there were no better seats for a 12 hour turn than an old V70. Showing my age a bit, no seizure notices in the folder, but lots and lots of horties :)
All the extra mirrors, back in the days when double crewing was the norm, not the exception.
You don't put a criminal behind the driver, and I am gripping myself!
Bet everyone stuck to speed limits when ya were driving it ben lol
2005 Bradford…. white unmarked vectra YA04 XAP IYKYK
Fast back Motorway patrol car 155mph back in 2008 was quick , Nowadays though how would the cops catch a bad guy in one of these EVs like a model S Plaid that does 60mph in 2 seconds ?
The Orignal T5 was named as it Did 150 MPH plus
T5 - Turbo, 5 cylinder, that simple 😂
Northumbria ran these, my ride between 2005 - 2009.
More room in the V70 than S60 for shit bags
Anyone know what the crack is with the secrecy under the bonnet?😅 I assume they're standard and not mapped but they want to keep criminals thinking they can't get away regardless
Curious how you were able to drive that on the public road. Thought it would be illegal?
The lights and police badges are covered for driving.
I don’t recall those Volvos being built to take out comets, I thought they were for taking out motorcyclists.
Wait. Is it legal to drive a fully marked car on public roads? I thought you wasn't allowed, no matter the age of the car?
I don’t get why there wouldn’t be a cage in the back. Someone who’s detained in the back could bite, spit, and kick easily. And I’ve seen too many videos where the person cuffed will get the handcuffs in front of them if they are flexible enough, and climb over and into the driver seat and steal the cop car. All because there wasn’t a cage
how are you able to drive it on the road even though it’s not actually a police car?
If the police signs and lights are covered
Great car, but Good leg room come on give me a break 😂😂
Yeah, those things were tight. Had one as well. Wide, but terrible leg room. And I'm only 5'7".
I thought the vectra was your favourite traffic car
A Vectra is nobodies favourite car 😅
No it's not one of the best traffic cars they have ever produced, 2.8 v6 turbo special
It's probably had an economic map 20 bhp more that about it
A proper old school cop car would be a jam butty with a single blue light
I thought old skool would be the legendary Volvo 740 estate T5 😂
Do you mean the 850 T5?
Just trying to find a dotted T in my keyboard…
58 plate cars are considered old school are they?? Since when?
When police cars were awesome
a shit bag test for comfort hahahahahahahahahahahahaha love it
Its only done 1500 miles in the last 10 years
Why is the engine mods top secret lol the cars not in service anymore and driving this car on the road would be impersonating a police officer lol
My own car is a V60 2.0 D4 and I can understand why the police like them.
Stopped watching at 5.00 solely tuned in to know if police spec were upgraded performance wise, don't know what the secrecy for.
If he int frum Barnsley al eyt mi hat
T5 in rear view mirror = shit your pants
Usless on country lanes.
T5 engine is fantastic, but really needs tuning. Stock they’re very restrained and have a very linear torque curve but with basic tuning they have tonnes of torque available instantly making them great for use on the road. D5 also makes a fantastic engine for similar reasons.
Currently putting together a slightly spicier 500bhp T5 build albeit in the much smaller + lighter C30 T5.
How are you driving it on a public road I thought it was ilegal now in England to drive a replica police car on U.K. roads 🤷♂️
Skills 😂😂
@@BenPearson1965 I wasn’t being funny lol was just a genuine question because I’d love to buy one myself 🤣🤣
If the lights are covered and the police signs it’s ok to transport and drive from A-B
Propper Police car, for me traffic Police. car straight away comes to mind a Volvo , presumably at the time of the S60 most police forces.had V70s instead or were saloons just as common. Noticed the reg plate started YN do all plates in all forces start with a Y.. Neighbour of mine.is.a car.dealer.and often.has an ex Police car amongst others , if she does by any she never buys white typically unmarked.black silver Peugeot 208s.silver 330d X5s BMW.but she told me at least 5 or 6 years ago.she.always knows when she's buying an ex West Yorkshire police vehicle.as the plates always start with YJ. Amongst others she's got a black 17plate ex West Yorkshire 208 Peugeot for sale.
Lancs T5s had the estate version, much more space for stuff. 05:38 You haven't got good legroom at all stop telling fibs!
so in the uk you can own a fully decked out cop car legally? that seems rather sketch to me
The lights and police badges are covered for driving.
@@BenPearson1965are you aware if a ex Hampshire TC steve woodward that as a fully restored 850 T5 estate. Be nice to see that on your you tube channel.
still not as cool as the escort cosworths they had back in the 90s
Terrible pursuit car. The turning circle is shocking. Fantastic in a straight line though!
All that knowledge and passion being wasted due to politics and red tape... that's the story of Britain
Not a cat in hells chance it would hit 60 in six seconds running a stock lump... them things are barges and fwd.
They do get it
6.3 stock
Name a car with that much power that can't do it, wtf are you talking about.
I remeber this as a kid in like 2007 my dad was a copper he used to bring it home I used to get gassed 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
