Fused Items are for the Dungeon portion of the game. While they're not worth any more than normal, they are substantially more effective to actually use for combat, which can make some of the later dungeon content a lot easier. There's basically two main phases. The Loan repayment is the most immediate concern, but the other half of the story requires progressing the dungeon story-line as well. It's possible to do both at once, but for newbies it's generally easier to pay off the loan first and then work on the dungeon plots once you no longer have weekly targets to meet.
