Good work of carefully watching and caring for your stock. Thanks for this lesson. I know it is tough running the farm right now with the work you are doing helping others. Good thing there are not too many animals needing attention right now.
I farmhanded for an old timer when I was much younger and he had one that just would not go up the ramp for anything. After about half an hour, he grabbed a 5 gallon bucket, put it over her head and backed her right up the ramp. He told me if you cover their eyes they will go wherever you lead them.
I doubt people realize how strong a big pig is. They can hurt you! And when they put their brakes on buddy it's hard to get them to go where you want them. Good job guys.
not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother for the last weeks xD
It’s been one of those years,I have one gilt that was due on the first huge bag check her every two hours and nothing as of last night. Hopefully this morning.
It’s possible for them to take a break but if I don’t see anything after an hour from the last I do an internal inspection. Sometimes one may be stuck at the birth canal. Whether it’s two present or one to large.
Actually had a kune kune sow with similar symptoms as big momma. Developed milk, looked like she was pregnant but never delivered. Best I could come up with is a false pregnancy. I'd give them another chance and next get a live cover. So many variables in AI compared to live cover.
So lucky you had the new gilts farrowing this year. It would have been really bad if it was just big mama and little mama and you ended up with only 6 piglets for the year. After all it is a cost keeping the mamas all year.
I got a deal last weekend with a KuneKune sow and her 2 (4 day old) piglets she had 7 the rest died somehow. We definitely bought a sow the owner didn’t want. She’s a older mom of maybe 4 yrs old if I had to guess. How old is too old to conceive with sows? I’m wondering if I may face the same decision with this sow being too old. We only bought her because of the piglets.
Wonder if there is special nutrient requirements for the momma pigs preceding and leading up to delivery that would ensure full liters? Maybe there isn't enough of a certain nutrient or two for the full liter and that's why the still borns and spontaneous abortion of the other female. Not a livestock farmer though. Hopefully one day I will be.
Im sorry that you had results with Big Mama. Ill be interested to see what you figure out with her. I had to laugh at your stubborn pig-loading adventure. Last weekend, my huuby and I went out to buy a very large Hampshire boar for use on our Red Wattle and Old Spots. LOL! omg.... the owner was not set up for loading, there were other full grown sows running in with the boar and THEY wanted to come with us but he wanted no part of it. Literally, we coaxed and rigged blockades out of cast off materials and slowly worked that boar into our trailer. That process took us 3.5 hours. Ugh! But in the end, we got "Walter" home to his new place on the mountain here. Just goes to show though that they are powerful animals and your set up for loading really needs to protect you and the sweet pigs. Looks like you did a might fine job....exhausted humans and all!
So I’m wondering if little and big momma caught a virus or infection during their pregnancy, like porcine or even a respiratory infection can cause reproductive issues in pigs. Big momma could’ve given birth to still bones and ate them but they have been dependable mommas.. I’m hoping I’m high on the waitlist for some piglets 😉🥰
Sorry to here about big momma little momma things seem to be a little different this year not my pigs but grown fond of theme any way guess giving theme another chance probably out of the cards you give theme a good life a chance to be pigs show theme love in a pig way if that makes since God bless
Raised pigs in the Mojave Desert before, pigs used to slurp up Rattle Snakes

Good luck. Hope your farrowing goes well.
Maybe try a shock stick for those times , and for a double benefit Sandra can use it on ya . 🤪
Who says she doesn't use it on me????😮
Trying to channel Temple Grandin, I wondered if the trailer was too dark? I'm thinking party lights... pastels?
sorry to hear that big momma and little mamma aren't doing well.
Thanks. Its frustrating but part of the process.

Good for keeping positive. Couldn’t survive otherwise.
Exactly. Thanks for watching
Trying to pickup tips before we get our pigs. 🤣🤣
Chuck has some good ideas for sure
Be patient! That is tip #1.
Thanks
@@tarrantfarm Great advice!
Is there a different plant in the paddock they ate that might have caused a miscarriage?
I’ve thought about that and there isn’t anything in there that I can tell would be an issue.
Wow never seen that kind of thing before.
It was crazy.

Why were so many stillborn?
I suspect it was a case of prolonged labor, and if only someone monitored the delivery and a shot of oxytocin would have saved those piggies.
Posted this before watching it all but that large number of still horns is probably what slowed down the process.

What will happen to sows when they have aborted piglets and she does not have/discharge them?

Snake tries to eat a piglet but becomes pig food.
Exactly!!

Could the problem be the semen? I am sure you said before, how old are they? Good video as always.
It certainly could be but once she settled I would hope she wouldn't lose them. We'll keep trying going forward.
@@SheratonParkFarms I would think the same. I'm just guessing.
Most pigs will eat a snake
