It actually looks like she tried out what happens when she touched trough the fields without the red dot, sometimes avoiding it. Also she often looked at the hole at the right, where she got food sometimes or whatever it was, like when she was clicking on the pictures with the hands..
So it looks to me as if she didn't saw the use of it

Unfortunate at least, that this ape could not seem to understand abstract concepts like the red circle on the screen representing the psychical red ball.
I have always wondered if it was possible to develop a basic user interface capable of use by certain apes. Something that could actually keep their attention; Ive noticed that apes tend to have 0 attention span.

It made a difference to show the ball in a hand instead of just a red circle. Now try presenting the chimps with actual ladies holding red balls and see what they do. My hypothesis is....they will get it right.
