I bought the 2g 32g version off ebay for under £20. It works fine had a problem with not accepting new launchers. It came pre rooted and no option to unroot. Did fail once I thought so reflashed newer firmware. Turned out my TV was at fault. Found both rooted and unrooted firmware. Links available on mxqproject Facebook page. Found update.img file to flash from November 1919. Overall uit was just what I wanted. Reflashing gave ability to change launcher. I chose ATV launcher.
I've just ordered an s905x3 based box - still awaiting delivery. It seems to be a lot higher spec than this one and it's a lot cheaper, £33 inc delivery.

Lakka isn't compatible but you might have luck with emuelec
