I enjoyed this video. Decades ago, when hostels were based on people helping out to keep costs down, I quite enjoyed working around the hostel for an hour or two. I love the idea of donativo albergues, as that is the true spirit of the Camino. I will look for them when I do the Camino next year. We can learn so much from other people while preparing a meal together. Beautiful.

You guys are wonderful. I am so with you. Minute: 13:44, about Giving. The Camino becomes so much more a giving experience, when the giving comes from the Pilgrim. "The Camino provides" is such a misunderstood phrase and you guys, just brought some light into this. Gracias, Thanks you, Grazie, Dzięki 😌

I just arrived from Santiago de Compostela.
I started the path in the city of Chaves, Portugal, Verin, Compostela, 8 days walking.
The first three days I only met 3 pilgrims, I ended up seeing a total of 20 pilgrims on the road to Sanabres.
just choose routes that normally nobody does, or maybe considered difficult. I loved all the pains of this path, no injuries, I helped some pilgrims, and I made friends.
p.s. never forget if you make the way you have to stamp your credential twice day, those who make the way by bike 4 stamps a day.
    buen camino

@@caminotellers My next route will be, Via de La Plata, that is if I prepare myself physically (I have to train on the bike).
I've wanted to do this path for a long time.
I haven't done it yet because of the heat, and because the steps are long, I'm going to choose to do the route by bike.
This year I met pilgrims from Seville, and I got the contact , so I could send my bike and do the via de la plata. So I can now travel by plane without luggage.
Continued good travels to you both.
P.S. Don't tell too many secrets, leave a few for us to discover.

We also stayed in lots of small towns, and this was in April and May, so we did miss a lot of the crowds. Some towns were just bottlenecks though or can't really be missed, like Burgos or Astorga. We walked a lot of shorter days which then meant we had time to walk around the little towns and sight-see. Biggest tip is to go a bit past Sarria, to Barbadelo, and then you miss the massive crowds that start walking there in the morning. Walked almost alone for several hours, as the Sarria crowd did not catch up until almost noon. Donativos like San Nikolas are really special treats.

Another valuable video from the @caminotellers ! We will make the Camino in Just a few more weeks from SJPDP! We love meeting new people but also, some quiet time too! so this was very good advice. What about on the path? If we say in the smaller albergue should we leave a little later to miss the crowds? We leave in September, will it be a busy time??

    • @caminotellers

September is busy, but you can find “your “ moments ! When starting at the same time (as others) from the small place you will always keep the same distance from them… keep us informed! We will be in Japan with our feet but our heart will still be on the Camino

Ricky, I don't know if you've already mentioned it, for pilgrims to be careful with festivals in towns, or holidays.
On this path I had problems finding open fruit stores, in August there are many parties in small towns and it is difficult to find small grocery stores open or even supermarkets, only restaurants are open. and have information about municipal and national holidays, as everything is also closed.
the Spaniards when they are partying, the next day everything is closed.

the problem with via de la plata for me is the heat, the distance between stages is great, for those who walk the path. from seville to salamanca very hot, we started the day at 3,4 in the morning and by 10 in the morning you can't walk anymore.
A few steps away we don't have water and food points and we need to have everything we need for that day and maybe the next.
yes the via de la plata is the most challenging path.
French way in winter must also be fun...
