We lived in Kapil era. .I played at clubs and university level. Know cricket not just by watching but also by playing. Apparently no other bowler until now, that India has produced and in may ways even at world level come close to Kapildev. There were 4 great contemporaries in 80s and early 90s - Kapil, Imran Khan, Richard Hadlee and Ian Bottham. These 4 guys were a team inside a team. They could single handedly turn the match around. Miss those glorious cricketing days...Lucky to have watched them live
It was an era of quintessential and pure pristine cricket. The show downs between/ amongst these contemporary stalwarts were eagerly awaited and relished. It was a totally different cricket those days- less on quantity and but great in respect of quality and content. I belong to that era Gavaskars, Kapils, Solkars, Bothams, Imrans, Hadlees, Lillees and Thomsons.
A great bowler, a great fielder, a great fighting batsman........ All in one. Mr.Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj. Who can forget his knock of 175* in 1983 World Cup when Indians were struggling at 17 for 5?? Who can forget his Test Century on a dangerous Durban track while the entire team collapsed against the raw pace & bounce of Allan Donald? Who can forget his backward running catch of the dangerous Vivian Richards in the 1983 World Cup Final game? A true Alrounder..... Years & decades rolled, but still India is not able to find a complete Alrounder like Kapil Dev. Definitely, we can never witness another one like him considering the present plastic game of cricket.

Yes but he held grudge against Mumbai players and still does while everyone respects him. This when Mumbai not just won Ranji Trophy continuously number of times but offered selectors many players who could play in the National Team yet for some reason there seems to have been a bureaucratic dictat to pick players from North. Yet he held a grudge. So much so that till the time Sehwag didn't establish himself he called Tendulkar great but once Sehwag scored a triple he cited that as a reason for Tendulkar not being great. That's the kind of jealousy North Indians hold in every sphere of life.

Qasim Omar- Best batsman against Windies in 1985 B&H Semifinal. The yorker to him in the final was killer blow to Pakistan. Pakistan did not survive from that moment. Kapil Dev played 3 matches against Pakistan in Australia and each match he gave superlative performance. Kapil Dev seemed to be horror against Pakistan in those Australian Pitches.

I had never seen Kapil Dev bowling big wide outside the off stump. It would rarely be wide down the leg side if at all. Meaning he was very accurate. Such was his practice, and there is another outstanding thing about his career: he was not off the game due to any sports injury. Youngsters need to learn from his work ethic.
