@@llviews6399 that’s exciting which have you ordered ? I have many I like, the yellow trunk Bi hoo is one Of my faves and is quite new and also love the classic blood good which I want to try and grow as a big centre piece in the garden. 😊

@@ssal4699 I ordered beni maiko and Atropurpureum as my first ones, but I really want Osakazuki and deshojo, and I'd love a bloodgood as a staple. There's just to many to choose from and they all look amazing. A centre peice sounds great! Have you ever gotten a very small acer which has done well. I thinking if buying more which are in 7cm pots, but not sure if they'll survive well.

Have you had trouble with maples growing in your soil in the past? I grow them in a clay soil and there fine.

Hi Gary, yes with mixed results . I have a lovely Katsura which i transferred into the ground about 3 years ago and that is doing great . On the other hand i had a similar sizer Emerald Lace which died on me after the second year . I have a high chalk content in the soil too , which apparently acers are not keen on . I intend to experiment with different cultivars in the ground but i do have more success in containers where i can adjust the soil easily if the tree is looking sad . You are correct but clay soil is not the best for drainage and according to the experts (which i am not ) that is number one rule of soil conditions for Japanese Maples. Any way glad to here you have no problems regarding soil , its good to get these comments which gives us some idea on what we could get away with . So thanks for the input .
      Kind Regards T M Morgan

Did your maples survive the cold temperature?

I dont understand the point of burying the pot ,why not just plant it directly in a pre dug hole in the soil ,what's the benefit of the pot ?

The soil in the garden is chalk and clay, both not goo for maples. . In a pot you have control of the soil and root conditions. i did say i would rather put them straight into the ground but we don't all have the best soil conditions. It.s my solution to my soil conditions.

@@terencemorgan6714 Thanks for the reply .I understand that Terence but what benefit does the pot have in comparison with digging a hole and adding the correct soil to the planting hole ?

@@terencemorgan6714 is it a way of guaranteeing success as compared to just planting in a hole , that kind of adds up ..

@@davidhuddart9262 It,s just my way of containing the root and making it easier for myself to move the plant if it isn,t doing too good in its location.
