Glad to see platform activity early in the morning & when things are tough economy wise. 3 & 4 are in weird times with that boulder blocking the track near Lamy. I think the same for a #4 from LA. And all the freight traffic they are encountering. We are way too warm for this time of year up here. Have not had a frost yet. Been close but no frost on the grass yet. I plan on driving on two lane highways and only driving in Greeley on the way home as I want to make a couple of stops before coming home. I am hoping that eastern Nebraska got some rain yesterday. The train got hung up in far western Nebraska and then just east of Ft. Morgan at Pawnee Junction where the balloon track at the power plant diverges from the main. I think that was from the local work train in the Brush yard. Interesting conversation this morning, looks like you recruited a new viewer! Nice couple. Sad to be reminded of the decline of downtown. I watched a video of a walking tour of downtown, passed lots of vacant store fronts. Maybe with the new growth and development FMG will see a redevelopment and restoration of the downtown area. People are looking to recreate that kind of old home town experience these days. You could be on the redevelopment board, given your history there and knowledge about the way it used to be. What was the place like when you were in high school? Is the school still there? I returned "home " for my 50th high school reunion in 2017, the school is now a community center and the places I used to hang out are unrecognizable. I mentioned before that I often feel like a stranger in my own country. As a side note, the high school did create a simple memorial to the 18 graduates killed in Vietnam. We meet every Memorial Day and Veteran's Day to pay our respects. We had very different experiences, you and me, yet I believe we have much in common, and the Navy is the core of our friendship. I guess it is ok to call you friend now ... after Chief, of course. Respect is important... On their way to Sacramento. I envy them their trip. One of these days..... This town went thru the HGTV "Home Town Makeover" and for a couple of businesses it was a great thing. The majority of townsfolks despised what was done. I am in that majority. The concept for HGTV is the same as with their other "improvement" programming. What a facade. The loss of a JC Penny's store that was one of the original stores was a major hit. The loss of the local newspaper as it was reduced to nothing by the hedge fund that purchased it was also a big blow. Other businesses have tried and failed to invigorate the downtown business district. They couldn't bring the people back. Sadly, it is the Wal-Marts that have ruined the community. I refuse to do business with them. I have never been treated as a human at that place. I have been ripped off by their auto service and when informed of the issue was told that it didn't exist. The puddle of new engine oil in their parking from under my pickup was more than enough proof. The pan plug laying in that pool of oil was the kicker. But, NOTHING. I ask for assistance and get store clerks who walk away and hide. WHY??? Yet I go to a different Wal-Mart in a different community, and it is different place. welcoming, clean, smiles, assistance when asked for. Ok. Off my soapbox. I want nothing to do with that portion of this community. I tried and went nowhere. I don't speak the correct languages. Hope that you have a great day out there. Please take care and stay safe!
Yeah Mike I would say that couple got off pretty easy with $8 a day in parking. I mean that's probably a steel in denver. I know Chicago that's probably $8 per hour if you park at Union station underground. You know I agree about the Walmart thing. You know I try to stay out of and you know I try to stay out of those places. I'm with you. And I was back in West point Nebraska back in June and they still have a pretty active downtown main street. But you know I'm glad to see but I'm sure there's a few empty places. I was told that both of the Jewelers went out of business because the people retired. You know West point still hanging in there.

Sadly, many major stores are now empty including one of the original JC Penny stores. New tenants have tried and closed the doors as well. We had a newspaper that was one of the better ones in this part of the state with a focus on the city, local sports and other events. None of that exists now. We have no paper and what is peddled to those of us with subscriptions has items from other counties and sources with no local reporters covering the city council meetings, local sports, school board meetings, etc. Rather much a vacuum for local news thanks to the hedge funds. Anyway, that is happening all across the country. We used to see the Omaha World-Herald on the newsstands. It may have been a day old, but it was available. Hope that you have a great Tuesday. Good morning Mike I’d say it’s getting a little chilly in the am where you’re at If #5 is extremely late do you always wait for its arrival? I remember once when I was working #5&6 back when the OAK crew’s went all the way to Lovelock one of the other onboard electricians talked his wife into making the trip along with him and this was three days before Christmas and when the crew tied up at Lovelock and checked with the dispatcher for SLC and discovered #5 for the next day was over 14 hours late needless to say his wife never made that trip again

I would like to see Indian summer here, but the lowest temp has been 35 F. It has felt much colder bit that is wind and humidity. The National Weather Service and NOAA no longer use the term "Wind Chill". I have no idea how to interpret the new term for "Wind Chill". Oh well. We are spoiled by the high temperatures here.
