My favorite years of the Dakar rally. I like the pugs, but this is where Dakar started to go wrong. We know who will win the rally. Back in 1980-1983, nobody knew how the race would go; it was all open to, I would say, experienced amateurs. H. Auriol tried to achieve it for the 1997 race by banning manufacturer prototypes, but it didn't work out. Manufacturer support kills the sport in what it was in its essence.
Almost nothing to do with russians. That Lada had only door handles, headlights and maybe front windshield from the real Lada. It was all french, prototype produced by Oreca, Lada Poch and the driver was french J. Riviere. It had a Porsche engine. Lada with Jacky Ickx won the most difficult stage in this Dakar. This was the first Dakar for russian Kamaz.
Un des plus dur en orientation 🤩😇❤️
