I'm a bit late to this video but still I'd like to share my view as someone who lives in a country in which Snapchat hadn't been a prevalent app for communication up until recently. Growing up I have never used Snapchat I downloaded it once when I was 14 to try out a couple of filters and deleted it in a matter of 2 days.
I decided to try it again because a lot of people my age started using it and I am truly baffled by its stupidity. The fact that there is even an option for Snapchat to publicly announce your location at all times, the concept of a snapscore, and as Ben talked about in the video the "content" it offered, not to mention how clunky message exchange is in this app, I find it unbelievable that anyone would ever be interested in spending time in an app with no notable personalised algorithm, mindless UA-cam shorts-esque content (even worse) and the messaging experience being random classmates sending you pictures of their wall to raise their snapscore... it's all so ridiculous (seriously who actually cares about snapscores though 💀)

I kinda forgot about this very odd side of snapchat (even tho i occasionally will lose some brain cells over watching a 5 min clickbait discover story) because i still enjoy most of sc's classic features aka normal people sc activity like snapping a few ppl, scrolling thru and posting stories, and looking at the memories. Also, i think snapchat is pretty useful for groupchats, it's pretty simple to use and there can be a lot of people in the gc. (there's prob better platforms out there for groupchats but sc is mainstream and good enough, like discord is great for larger groups but not everyone has that)

I remember the first time I got Snapchat, I was a dumb 12 year old and I saw this ‘prank’ wear a guy tied bricks to a sunbathing girl’s towel, and planned to pull it off. It was a fucking 20 minute video and he didn’t even do it (I now realise how weird that sounds but trust me I knew she wasn’t gonna be nude, I wanted to see her reaction lol)
I never fell for one of those again. The only public story I actually like is ‘Unseen’ which is like true crime which I really like.

honestly my friend kept urging me come onto snapchat and i never saw the appeal AT ALL but i did it for her anyway cuz i mean, it's just an app right? wrong, it's agony.
