I actually liked this game. For someone that isn’t good at combat etc. I liked that my fear was more what was going to happen, more anxiety based. My favourite game is Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture, which is like that too (but that is an amazing game!). But thanks for your playthrough, it was one of the reasons I bought it as it looked totally my kind of game lol.
What happend in the game for the confused: Chris (the player) went trough the funeral of his abusive father that experimented on him since childhood due to the gift of seeing the dead. The tests only harmed Chris and the other gifted children and would almost kill them. Regardless of that, the father put his son Chris back in the machine in hope that he could see his wife again. Helen (the helping scientist) found the experiment cruel and inhumane. So she managed to grab chris and get him out of the facility and find Chris a loving home. Experiencing horrible memories. Everything you see including helen in the bunker/facility is in his head. When he sits on the chair, he remember everything that happend to him and thats when he could finally move on from his trauma and father's abuse
I really liked the demo, and was excited for the game... and tbh, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed. The gameplay was a bit lackluster, and I'm not a huge fan of big info dumps at the end of a game, I prefer learning about the story throughout the game. And I have to agree with you Chris, I feel like the best part was covered in the demo, so roughly the first 30minutes. It wasn't a bad game at all (especially for a one-man team!), and I had fun during those 2 hours, but I expected more.
I usually don't trust disembodied voices like Helen's. Following their instructions seldom ends well. 😬 🤣 But this time, it did! Surprisibus, surprisibus! I must say, after the auspicious beginning of the demo, I was puzzled and a little disappointed by the low level of actual threat in this game. The environments were definitely creepy (I liked the touch of the carpet from the Overlook Hotel), and the sound design was great, but I kept seeing missed opportunities for scares. Still, I liked the game and your commentary, of course. Most of all, thanks for a 2-hour video! This reminds me of the game Sylvio from a few years back. Also, my suspicions went to 11 when Helen talked about an incident just occurring, yet all the equipment looked old and dusty.
Nothing better than to sit with dinner after a long day and see Chris publish a video this exact minute And the video is 2 hrs long My dude, you're making life bearable ❤️✨
I like that they included pics of the voice actors, regarding the game, it's a good game, I do wish also that the enemies were threatening, like mulitple enemies on some parts of the village or even in the bunker. The pacing could've use a little bit more speed, most of the times it's mostly walking. I still enjoyed it.
I thought there was going to be so many jump scares, I was on my toes through out the whole game, waiting for them, but was interesting to find out the story of the game,
Chris, don't get too discouraged. In my humble opinion, the game was exactly how it should be. It was more of a mystery game than a horror one, I agree, but sometimes it's good to play someting else than you usually do. Maybe you've got too used to the fact that when you play a game then it must be scary and that's why you're unsatisfied. But, all in all, as a viewer I am satisfied and thankfull that you've played this game. Thanks. Really.
Not much of a horror game, but horrific in what seems to have happened. Still, an interesting story that I wish had had a little more info. Regardless, 2 hours with Chris at the helm is amazing. Thanks, Chris!
I really liked the story of this one. It was a suspense game, let's say lol, there was no terror. But I really liked it. And a 2h video is a wonderful thing, I love it when you post long videos like that!
I ALWAYS enjoy your videos; they are amazing. The only thing that would make them better would be seeing you in the corner throughout the game. Your reactions add a whole new level of enjoyment to the games. Think about it!
This game reminds me a lot of the Maze Runner series, using people for a goal. I love the ambiguity of the plot but it didn’t give me enough to chew on and to think about
Not very much frightening, without astonishing graphics but the story was really entertaining. All bizarre and surrealistic situations were very up to the point in my opinion.
Inscrypted is a blast. I killed the moon with a foil maggot bear. It’s really challenging, but it actively encourages you to come up with totally broken combos.
aw man... yeah, this was pretty cool, but it was a little disorganized and i was hoping for some spookier visions. And you only ever fought two enemies, and they were exactly the same. The pace was quick, which I like, but a little... lacking. The premise was great! I really enjoyed it. It just could've been _better_.
Man , so far am loving this play through. Wish more indie horror games / things advertising them selves as a horror game were this good. Although it has some minor flaws for some ( not exciting enough in some parts ...I agree that so far it seems rather lacking in a feeling of danger after you pick up the modified speaker. ) ( Probably...could use more enemies...may be? And some more weird occurrences or some thing but how to achieve with out jump scares especially unnecessary jump scares in general? ) How ever I feel that...over all...it is a lot better than most I have been seeing. I usually hate a lot of back and forth from locations / exploration with out feeling to be in real danger etc. in horror games but this is done so well and has some really interesting features ( like using a phone to fast travel )
The game reminds me a lot of Sylvio, but Sylvio had the ghost recording mechanic which led to a few more creepy moments, a slightly more unsettling atmosphere, and slightly more interactive puzzles. Compared to it, Chasing Static feels a little lacking... and I fully blame the demo, because there is no point in the game where we get a jarring moment like in the demo. The demo feels Silent Hill inspired, but the game itself feels a lot more like Everyone's Gone to Rapture. Not nearly as awful as that one, but has a lot of the same issues.
real question Chris, have you ever thought about doing audiobooks?! You have such an amazing speaking voice... I LOVE listening to you read notes and such! You NEVER mess up and have to start over or anything like that!!! The speed that you read in is really good, the volume is good, you pause and stop at the right times... I just really think that you would do well in that area? Do you read?? I think you would do well reading for Horror, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi! I have no idea how one would go about reading an author's book but I am sure it isn't hard to find! I thought I would throw that out into the universe! ;p really loved this little indie game! I too thought there was missed opportunity with the scares and such... I mean there really wasn't even a threat in the game until midway through, and I wouldn't really call it a threat when avoiding it was easy; even before you got the weapon to destroy them!
has a nice dense atmosphere to it but yeah, it could have used some spooks here and there, still a good game but yeah, it felt like it needed just a little bit.....more
your videos always make my day! i’m sick with the flu right now so a 2 hour video of a game i’ve been excited for since you played the demo? i’m ecstatic 🤩
Thanks for the videos. Just a thought, the reasons I love watching your videos, compared to other channels, are: 1. You have a nice catalog of games I love to watch but hate to play. 2. You sound nice and always positive. 3. You don't try too hard to be funny. 4. You don't comment on every single thing. In this video, the 3rd and 4th points... Well..... Please don't take it personally. Still love your videos.
I forgot there were accents in this game. Yours seemed to put its feet up and make itself at home when you were chatting with the girl in the diner. Your accent seems to level off a bit when you play games with North American VAs. But it was back to its clipped higher pitch during this one. ...you were speaking English this time. 😀 Like the paranormal researcher said in Poltergeist an empty signal can recieve broadcasts from anywhere. Encountering maniacle spirits from the people that were driven mad would have amped up the scares and threats. It is a very cerebral British game tho. Helen sounded like Helen Cutter from Primeval so I had my doubts about her throughout the game.
Kinda like when jacksepticeye plays with other irishmen vs his American friends. With other irishmen, his accent gets noticeably thicker and he talks a lot faster.
Pleasantly surprised to see someone mention Primeval, I absolutely loved that show along with Doctor Who and Sarah Jane Adventures growing up. They're the reason I often think in different UK accents despite being American lol
Man, i thought this game was great and fascinating! Perhaps it could have used more of those freaky enemies to blast to make it more tense? But i though it was wonderfully atmospheric, especially the village and the music in the lab. Thanks for the video, Chris!
Hi Chris I'm just new to the channel and I'm totally enjoying your videos specially your low key scared moments hahahaha. my sister really likes you that she begged me to follow you so you gain more subscribers. She followed you to her 6 different accounts. We love you Chris
Quite frankly to me this was a real mermaid game not too many jump-scares but I appreciate greatly as like I was just telling me if you want to see if you have too many jump-scares he kills the storyline to me they should have added a little bit more story behind it and explain a little bit more in-depth for what was going on I do agree with that and finding more things would have been better but to me it was a real Madrid game real placed jump-scares and quite frankly I thought it was hilarious when you got scared by the door opening by itself. Thank you again Chris for making such great videos and for spoiling us with the 2 hour video
I am not sure what you mean...the parts where you talk about "Mermaid game" / "Madrid game" doesn't make any sense.. the rest of your post is a bit more understandable....Would you please explain what you mean by calling it a mermaid / Madrid game?
Ten out of ten; the toilets are interactive! Hoorah! 👍🏻😊 Game was a 5 out of 10. Not bad, but not great. Low key, underwhelming, yet just enough to keep my interest up. Potential for a damn good game.
This indie horror game looks interesting , and the plot is rather nice.... But actually the Mechanics like the Radio Frequency detector and the Fast Travel thru the Phone or Computer is exactly like the Horror Survival Game The Evil Within 2 i just spotted that , and both are similar exactly ( Well this game is first person , but the Concept of picking up Past Frequencies and be able to know Stories is just like Detective Castellanos from The Evil Within 2 ). And the fact that you could also Travel via Computer screen and warp to other Screens 😂
Nice to have a game with your namesake. Had a strange feeling that all of the characters were referring to you. Uhh, sleep paralisys, eh? I sometimes sleep talk. Parasomnia is a nasty thing..
This game was pretty good...just wasn't as intense as I expected. The fast travel mechanic was neat. I agree with your opinion whole heartedly. Still a great video.😁👍
I didn't mind this game so much other than some missed opportunities for some extra spooks. It really reminded me of a game I played called Everybody's Gone to Rapture with a similar gameplay style
Good game, but indeed, there were a lot of wasted opportunities for a scare. Honestly, there were moments during the gameplay that I almost nodded off, because not much was going on except a lot of walking and trying to get the power back on. Add to that, as interesting as the fast travel was, along with the static figures with dialogues, all it did was remind me of the second Evil Within game...... which coincidentally is a series that I'm in the middle of rewatching from your archives.
Man this left alot of questions, what was the car wreck at the beginning (honestly, I was starting to think the reveal was going to be that you died in that and were a ghost Helen summoned up to do damage control), how was Helen communicating with you if you were trapped in this dreamscape, was that glimpse of the lab the only snapshot of reality or was that merely a memory of the past, how did you drive from your dads funeral into all this, what the heck ever happened to Aneira? Honestly, the ending kinda reminds me of the ending to Ether One where the reveal was such a drastic shift from the setup of the first half of the game that even though it makes sense it still felt disappointing.
I was thinking the wreck was just because he was leaving, which she said random things happen when you try to leave... All of the other stuff idk.. lol
There are multiple endings to this where you kill the 3 ghosts with a raygun and use the computer in the lab with the 3 dots on the screen that goes all wobbly when you get near it. Starting the car at the cafe after the waitress goes exorcist locks you into an ending you have to leave the cafe by traveling into the woods right after leaving the cafe.

I enjoyed the playthrough as always, but I agree that the game itself was a bit lacking. 1.
Haha, yeah, I fall into that habit of thinking out aloud and talking about EVERYTHING sometimes.
I forgot there were accents in this game. Yours seemed to put its feet up and make itself at home when you were chatting with the girl in the diner. Your accent seems to level off a bit when you play games with North American VAs. But it was back to its clipped higher pitch during this one. ...you were speaking English this time. 😀
Like the paranormal researcher said in Poltergeist an empty signal can recieve broadcasts from anywhere.
Ive been waiting ages to see this, I loved the demo brilliant way to spend Saturday night thankyou x
Nice CJU. Had my eye on this one but likely won’t get to play it.
Excited to watch!
Goddamn it that was good!
I totally agree, it really could've kept the scary atmosphere it had at the start.
But, overall, I enjoyed this. 🙂👍
Ooo Chris has graced us with a long vid, earning an automatic 👍! Looking forward to this playthrough. Settling in with some food and a cup of tea.
Woohoo! I’m so glad you played this! Love the game
We love you Chris
all the sudden on the radio wesker said 7 minutes is all i have to play Chris
You sound just like the MALE VOICE ACTOR! Crazy how similar you sound.
I'm listening while cooking and keep getting confused about who's talking
I really enjoy your opinions at the end discussing the game...
Yes, this game has the exact retrocognition I'm looking for.
I've been waiting for Chris to play this one on release, can't wait to see it all tonight!
Guess I sleep late tonight.
Fictional Chris and real Chris sound eerily similar 🤨🤨🤨…
Great playthrough--but did I miss finding out what happened to the waitress we met at the beginning? Was she one of the bodies Chris found?
She seemed to get Silent Hill'd.
Ten out of ten; the toilets are interactive! Hoorah! 👍🏻😊
Game was a 5 out of 10. Not bad, but not great. Low key, underwhelming, yet just enough to keep my interest up. Potential for a damn good game.
Omg 2 hours?? Hell yeah~☆
That was really fun! Thank you for playing, CJU!
I didn't mind this game so much other than some missed opportunities for some extra spooks. It really reminded me of a game I played called Everybody's Gone to Rapture with a similar gameplay style
7:37 Excuse me while I put a little sign up over the register.
"Do not allow this man in store."
Good game, but indeed, there were a lot of wasted opportunities for a scare. Honestly, there were moments during the gameplay that I almost nodded off, because not much was going on except a lot of walking and trying to get the power back on. Add to that, as interesting as the fast travel was, along with the static figures with dialogues, all it did was remind me of the second Evil Within game...... which coincidentally is a series that I'm in the middle of rewatching from your archives.
this game ( the end part ) gave me some kind of silent hill taste
Starting the car at the cafe after the waitress goes exorcist locks you into an ending you have to leave the cafe by traveling into the woods right after leaving the cafe.
i know it's kinda an older game, but i'd dig it if you played Sylvio XD
i always thought that was a subtle horror game not many people on yt picked up
