  • It happens. I ran off of the road on Signal Mt., Grand Teton Park. See it on: • Rodeln: Rollenrodel Si... . Glenn had his run off and rollover at the Proving Grounds, west slope of the Tetons.
What's important is to find out why, so that the probability of a repeat is next to zero.
Here we discover what happened to Glenn. (I made an almost identical mistake.) Thankfully, Torggler Rollenrodels are tough.

Where is your PPE???? Just some home-made gloves?!? Very stupid!!!

Presumably, you mean person protective equipment. I'm sure that everyone has an opinion. The gloves BTW are superior to anything on the market. I offer protective equipment to everyone who wants to try this. Glenn elects not to use it. I started with full gear when I first tried Rollenrodel ie: knee pads, elbow pads, padded shorts, helmet, the works. I found that I had more near accidents with the gear then without. PPEs awkwardly modify how the body moves in controlling the Rollenrodel. So, now the ONLY reason I ever wear a helmet is to support the camera. Of course we do wear eye protection. In seven years of Rodeling and later including Rollenrodel, no one has experienced even road rash. It's a personal choice for each of us. Seen another way, I find that PPEs sometimes cause one to feel invulnerable and more likely to do something TRULY stupid. I prefer to be light and nimble, rather than heavy, stiff and armored.

From here, he's entering the corner with some speed, looks like a kick...surprised ya can scrub speed so fast. Great post.

He is. This curve series is our test section. We keep pressing to do it faster and faster, but keep it smooth. It tells a lot about body position, sequence and wheel drift.

I can envision a race of sorts, like they do on skate boards, or snow boards at resorts, with hay bails and maybe even burm turns:)

It already happens in the German-speaking countries. However, most don't use the Sportrodel that we ride. They use a Rennrodel (dedicated race sled).
