    I remember when I was a little girl I would pick some these little flowers and pull the end off and pull the long stem in the middle through it and I could get a drop off sweet nectar out of it. It taste so good. The flower smells wonderful.

    When I was a not so bright little girl, I spent practically a whole day at the honeysuckle vines in our backyard, trying to collect enuff nectar to be able to sip it from one of those little bathroom dixie cups.
    It kept evaporating, I think, cuz I couldn't even get a teaspoon full ! Hahahaaa

    I just purchased the Northeast medicinal plant book today. The ability to get medicinal properties from nature is a priceless knowledge. Thanks

    I am so glad you did this video! I absolutely love honeysuckle! But I had no idea it was medicinal!Now I have another reason to love it! Yes, that was the thing when I was growing up too, sucking that drop of nectar! And yes, I still do when I find it. And we won’t talk about how old I am now 😂
    It’s always been one of my favorite flowers and I’ve never thought of it as a weed. I used to be so disappointed when someone would cut it down. It has such a wonderful fragrance! Your channel is such a blessing! Can’t wait for “Just in Time” Sunday!

    Kudzu is a cousin to the pea. Young leaves can be steamed...older leaves can be boiled and cooked like turnip greens. The root ball can grow to 400 pounds, and is known as arrow root, a thickener like cornstarch. You can also eat the root as mashed potatoes.
    Old folks are often seen picking leaves and shoots off of highway 82 between Winona and Greenwood Mississippi. 😊

    So cool, my honeysuckle has gone crazy taking over my entire side fence along my neighbors, and its provided a beautiful privacy wall, as well as bring tons of humming birds and dragonflies to our yard. I planted it about 3 yrs ago, and its grown over 20ft wide and about 10ft high. Its always had massive blooms but this year some reason its just exploded in more blooms flowers ive ever seen it have. Im so happy its so happy and so excited to get to harvest some of it and use for this horriable cold and cough i have right now...its good for the cooling cold, it has cooling properties according to Chinese herbal medicines.

    Really good video. I like your common sense way of checking the books, then saying, " this part right here." I'm trying to learn, but I think that is the real medicine way.

    Awesome video! I do have it growing in my yard. I’ll look into doing something with it. Thanks again. On a side note I’m getting ready to make root beer from sassafras. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as it’s all new to me.

    I grew honeysuckle because I heard it was used traditionally as an herbal remedy plant by natives and as a forager I wanted to try to use it somehow. Thank you for this video! Also the hummingbirds love them!

    Used to do the same thing growing up with the nectar. I didn't realize the medicinal qualities it had and that it was a foreign species. It's been around as long as I can remember and that's more than a minute or two..

    Sir, what is your Best recommendation for a specific tincture you use commonly?? 💕💕

    • @SpiritoftheOutdoors
      @SpiritoftheOutdoors  11 місяців тому +1

      That is probably an individualistic question because it would have to do with what is wrong with you most commonly. If you have some health issue you gonna focus on that first but for a healthy person . I say goldenrod flowers for colds during the winter. Im more of a tea person . I love herbal teas juts to sip on so goldenrod, rabbit tobacco mostly then cardinal flower and passion plant for anxiety and wild lettuce i usually tincture for pain but now that i have the paste i use it. I keep other emergency herbs like boneset to break fever and a few other dried herbs i find just to have because they are here

  • @ladyhammer8188
    @ladyhammer8188 Рік тому

    Look up how to make tincture and tea?? Use it dry or fresh??

    • @SpiritoftheOutdoors
      @SpiritoftheOutdoors  Рік тому

      For tea i would just add fresh plant to some hot water and let it sit 10 min or so and it will make fine tea. You can use it dried as well. If you have plenty blooms pack them in a glass jar and cover with alcohol like vodka

    Since you use plants so much, have you thought about keeping bees to pollinate all the plants? Can you infuse any of your medicines in honey, too? That would be good for sore throats, I bet.
