The severity of vitamin D deficiency is concerning
especially with the high rates of COVID-19 infections in Europe and elsewhere in the northern hemisphere this winter
Clinical trials have shown that vitamin D supplements are beneficial in the prevention of respiratory infections and even mortality
Vitamin D is not expensive and the doses which have shown the greatest benefits are those that we can all acquire over the counter from the local pharmacy
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, now is really the time for all who may be affected to take action

This has been known for years, people with good levels of vitamin D still get the infection but they fight it off quickly without many of the complications that are seeing people hospitalised. People with dark skin are especially vulnerable as they often have very low vitamin D in countries with cold climates. You would think that this fact alone would galvanise the media into action but not when it means their friends don't get the fat government contracts for PPE end such.

Myself and my elderly mother have just recovered from covid. She was symptomatic first and I became symptomatic after spending 3 days isolating in the same house as her. Both of us were taking 9000 IU Vitamin D, 500mg quercetin, 1200mg NAC, 30mg elemental zinc, 1000mg Vitamin C, 400mcg Selenium and fish oils before and throughout. We both had a single day of fever and muscle aches before the inflammation / cytokines calmed down and we recovered. Our first and last symptom were 7 days apart. Supplementation works!

I’m sorry, I meant for pharmaceutical companies. Anything that is not patentable does not get further research. And because they’re not FDA approved you don’t need research to sell vitamins/ supplements, so while the industry thrives, and certainly does earn money, research is not required to do so. It’s actually a lot more complicated than my original comment makes it out to be. But if you know anything about patent law in the medical industry you’ll know what I am alluding to

Shannon Vlogs. I think another reason is in play. If a simple supplement would dramatically improve the terrific downside of Covid or the flu. The economic loss for big pharmaceutical companies would be staggering. The old chestnut “there is no money in the cure”. 6000 IU’s per day could preclude someone from getting or suffering at hospital level. In conjunction with utilizing existing (hands, face, distance) protocol. Thus rendering Covid or others flues to the status of stay at home care risk. There’s no money in prevention. Vitamin D. Exercise. Diet. Regular blood screening. Etc. are major factors of proactive longevity. Medicare doesn’t pay for an annual physical. Can you imagine that 😳🤪

      *It's a deficient immune system over-reaction disease!*
But as a competitively🚴fit TBI survivor, (20yr ago) first prescribed carbamazepine(Tegratol™) for acquired epilepsy, who's specific but UNINFORMED😛DRUG DEPLETION led to ☀D-deficiency which quickly led to obesity & depression that only deepened the deficiency in a decending death cycle....
I've since learned both that my own problem, and for deficiencies in general, that comorbidities don't block OPTIMAL IMMUNE HEALTH!
      *Dosage is the only issue.*
As an obese person I can personally testify as to anyone's ability to acquire high enough blood levels 40-60ng/ml.
🎉I have now reached an OPTIMAL 54ng/ml
      [135nmol/L] 🎉🎉YAY!🎉🎉
But, my dosage had to be VERY HIGH to get over the drug depletion, fat depletion & storage levels, first. (Far above what our best, well-trained/propagandized caregivers like Campbell are comfortable with😛) Every comorbid patient simply needs to understand their own ☀D issues and take a sufficiently high dosage to overcome them! vitamindwiki.com has tons of helpful research to peruse!
My initial wonderful, but lowish prescription of 200,000IU over a too long month PRELOADING, then daily 5,000IU only got me to a bare, still unsafe 'sufficiency' of 30ng/ml [75nmol/L]
      Yet no more cold/flu🤗 DEPRESSION🤗
      Body pains! 🎉Woohoo!
      🎉Stopped gaining in 3 years since!🎉
Then pandemic Covid, much reading of research only to realize continued danger, I first doubled dose to 10,000IU, then soon upped to 25,000IU for a month, then dropped back to 10,000IU every day. I now hope to settle at a higher 70-80ng/ml to ease my weightloss plan! (K2, Magnesium, Zinc also.) Autoimmune sufferers go very high, also! (🤔Perhaps 'long Covid' is in that category as 'Mast Cell' and should push their levels very far up???)
*Thinner Elders can do similar, first treat ☀D-deficiencies with preloading doses and follow healthy, ImmuneNerd Fauci's lead with 6,000IU/day. But if obese/diabetic or other comorbidities they may need much higher!
[Skintone has no dosage effect in oral/injectable, only natural UVB☀.]
Anyone with our CovidComorbidities which are all simply☀D-deficiencies! can raise their levels to safety with mega-pre-loading doses (quickly for Covid-prevention) followed by sufficiently high maintenance doses. Digestive/liver/kidney issues may need higher form prescription injectables to bypass those dysfunctional organs.
*Obese/diabetic 2-3X standard high dosing depending on BMI fat!
EVERYONE can get to optimal immune health & complete Covid safety from serious disease, pneumonia or the inflammatory cytokine storms! NO ONE SHOULD BE DYING!
*If no test possible? No study showed hypercalcemia risk with short term mega-doses or up to 10,000IU/day!*
If already fighting kidney stones, ask your caregiver if K2 would work for you.
No risk of hypercalcemia till above 150ng/ml [375nmol/L]
Vit K2 prevents hypercalcemia and completely safe except for with a couple of meds with warnings!

It is because in the 1950s they got very enthusiastic about vitamin d, then there were some cases of children with high blood calcium levels, which they attributed to vitamin d supplementation. It turned out it was not the supplementation that caused it but by then all medical schools where teaching that vitamin d was easy to overdose on, and that mind set has stuck. I have not met an endocrine doctor who does not take vitamin d.

The saw an effect (high blood calcium levels in some individuals) and thought it was caused by what they had done (given them vitamin d). Given the toxic effects of vitamin d are high blood calcium levels then it appears reasonable. Except they were not at toxic levels of vitamin d. By the time it was found out a culture of caution had developed especially in the UK. That is why the RDA is set so low and almost nothing in the UK contained added vitamin d until a few years ago.

I wonder if Dr. John has ever considered that the "insufficient evidence" factor may be driven by monied interests? There is absolutely no point in any private organization spending money to provide evidence that there is any medical benefit to taking any substance for which they do not have intellectual property rights. This rules out any private funding for all naturally occurring substances, that is, vitamins, minerals and substances produced by living organisms (plants, fungi, bacteria etc.).
On the other hand it would be well within the interests of drug companies to fund research to cast doubt on the safety and efficacy of natural substances. Food for thought!

I'm a senior in California. My doctor has been routinely testing her patient's vit d levels for last 11 years. She says it's because most of her patients are deficient. I had my first vit d test about 10 years ago and discovered you want a vit d level more than 50 but less than 75. My vit d test 10 years ago was 45 --too low-so I began taking 10,000IU a day and got re-tested 6 months later and it was then 89.9. Too high but not toxic. So I dropped down to 4,000 IU a day. I get re-tested every year and my level is usually around 70-74.
Since pandemic I am on 6,000 IU a day + vit k and vit c and zinc. I read Dr Fauci takes 6,000 IU a day! My vit d test last may was 76. The last flu I had was in 1999 and since 1999 I have only had about 3 colds. Adults over age 60 can not make much vit d from the sun and if you are overweight you make less vit d than those of normal weight-no matter what your age. So EVERYONE needs to get a vit d test and get your number above 50 but under 80.

So frustrating! My 96 yr old elderly friend in a senior’s home is not taking vitamin D. She never heard that it is beneficial to the immune system. There is now an outbreak at her facility. I have asked her to start taking vitamin D. How disgraceful that our own public health departments haven’t recommended this.

Thanks Dr John. Been doing vit D supplements for years so all good with that but recently had to go to my GP for some other stuff and a blood test was required so I asked if they could check my vitamin D levels .. completely dismissive, no interest in adding that check onto what was probably a bunch of other stuff they had to do. Sigh. On the positive side. Went to collect a package from a Lakeland plastic store in Stratford upon Avon and despite a chilly day they had the sliding double doors locked open. WooHoo!. I commented to the lady that was greeting people and she agreed it was good but said it was painful as they had had to suffer the horrendous singing of a terrible busker for 3 hours... life is full of Ying and Yang.

I am so pleased that a doctor is taking notice of the lack of D3 for those of us in regions without enough sunshine to make our own. For a couple of years I have been taking 5000iu of D3 with K2 & K1, with vitamin A from the alfalfa the D3 & K2 are suspended in, to balance the D3 and remove the danger of vitamin D toxicity. Since reading an ebook by Jeff T Bowles, I have used myself as a guinea pig and have taken much higher doses, I got up to 100,000iu for a few days and have reduced down to 70,000iu, which has made me feel better than I remember at the age of 62. I feel quite bulletproof against Covid on this high dose. Vitamin D3 is actually a repair hormone, not a vitamin per se. The piffling dose of 400iu came into being in the 1930s when the US pharmaceutical industry started losing profits to vitamin D supplementation, after it had been identified as the remedy for rickets, and many other diseases. It made me so angry when it was said that Covid 19 was a racist disease, which was patently ridiculous. People with darker skin chose to live in northern countries because they could make a better living here, but with the piffling amount of sunshine in northerly latitudes, these poor people have been physically unable to convert vitamin D from the sun, even if it was warm enough to expose their skin to it. I am a Conservative but I have been very disappointed in Matt Hancock's ability to deal with this pandemic, particularly as he has had no healthcare training and was thrilled by the announcement that vitamin D3 could now be prescribed to patients, which didn't last long when it turned out that this was in the negligible dose of 400iu or 10mcg. I am a kinesiologist, and nutrition was an important part of our training, and our treatment of our patients. Vitamin D3 supplementation in high doses with vitamin K2 & A, is also vital for multiple sclerosis and lupus patients, amongst others. I get mine from a small British company, www.vitacure.co.uk. Not sure if I am allowed to mention them, but they are very good and not expensive.

Vit D deficiency goes up, virus spreads faster... (gov insists virus is getting worse) also vit D reduces effect of covid, not prevents it.

15,000 iu per day could possibly be too much, but you would have to take it for months. Getting your blood level checked is best, but absent that 5000 iu per day is perfectly safe unless you have one of the rare Vitamin D accumulation diseases. You want a blood level of 40-50 ng/ml, according to the American Endocrine Society. I'm pretty sure Dr. John is not taking enough.

4:13 Hi Dr. Campbell. You can find a free copy of that paper on Sci-Hub.se. Sci-Hub is a search engine that provides free access to millions of research papers otherwise locked behind paywalls. To access a journal, first find its DOI by looking the paper up in Google. Then paste the DOI into the Sci-Hub search box and click on open. It will download the required paper.
